Chapter 52: Chapter 052 Exposed
The diffusing gun smoke cleared, and that monster emerged completely unscathed, casually batting the nearest P.W.A.T member away, sending him flying. Chen Ke could see the creature’s claws clearly—they had five fingers like a human, but with an extra joint, and the nails were absurdly long.
The P.W.A.T member’s body split in two in midair, slamming into the corridor wall and smearing a large blood stain before falling to the ground in a bloody, indistinct heap.
“Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah!!!!!!!”
The monster began to howl madly again, a sound like a woman wailing tragically mixed with the angry cries of a child.
The screams penetrated the soul, and one could hear them even with their ears covered. Nearby P.W.A.T members clutched their helmets, blood oozing from all orifices, instantly losing their ability to fight.
Some met even worse fates, their heads just exploded…
...
“Currently substituting lifespan for lost sanity.”
“-1 hour”
“-1 hour”
“-1 hour”
“-1 hour”
“-1 hour”
…
Those horrific screams from the monster were unbearable for Chen Ke too, his head splitting in agony, as if invisible hands wanted to rip his brain in half.
His lifespan plummeted, leaving him just 1 hour. His undershirt was soaked with cold sweat, while his limbs felt chilly and his movements lagged. This was a mental attack by the monster causing a neurological short circuit in the brain; Chen Ke, who originally had 10 hours of life left, now didn’t even have enough time to be revived.
The monster burst through the wall hole, charging forward, and its claws, like merciless blades, cut wildly through the air, instantly dismembering six P.W.A.T members. The dead were cut into pieces, some with only half a torso left, still firing their automatic rifles at the monster from the ground.
Amidst the ongoing barrage, the surviving P.W.A.Ts scattered and attempted to evacuate towards the top floor.
But they couldn’t possibly escape the monster’s hunt; the corridor was littered with the intestines and blood of the dead, utterly disgusting.
Chen Ke forced himself to rise, rolling into an office and slowly standing up, leaning against the door frame.
That creature was not something he, in his current state, could handle—nor could the P.W.A.T. He had to find an opportunity to slip away, or he really would meet his end here.
He glanced at the emergency exit and then peered towards the monster, unsure if he could outrun it. Without the protection of a shield, the monster could kill him instantly.
Chen Ke tucked his gun back into its holster. Given the current situation, it was quite clear that his two pistols were useless. Not to mention civilian Spiritual Bullets, the remaining four Punishment Bullets would be a real waste if ineffective, not to mention they’d attract unnecessary hatred.
He clung to the wall, secretly observing as the monster continued its slaughter of the resisting P.W.A.T members. The last member had his neck and spine brutally ripped out by the creature, blood mingling with some blue liquid, while the headless corpse still followed muscle memory to pull the trigger.
Now!
Chen Ke, like a husky freed from its leash, leapt out from the glass doors of the office and sprinted towards the emergency exit!
However, Chen Ke had only taken three or four steps when the double doors of the safety passage were suddenly flung open by a group of people. They didn’t look like surviving investigators and seemed very adept at handling these kinds of situations.
An efficient and robust Black woman burst onto the 12th floor corridor with several people in tow. Both Chen Ke and the Black woman were very surprised and puzzled, exchanging glances as they briefly lost the ability to speak, and Chen Ke subconsciously stopped in his tracks.
“Fuck.”
He glanced to the right, the monster was already charging at him!
“Murderous Trigger!”
Chen Ke had almost exhausted all his murderous intent, pouring it all on the monster, but it had no effect whatsoever.
The monster’s sharp claws, like five steel knives, carved long fissures into the ground and, with a vicious flick upwards, tore through Chen Ke’s lower abdomen, shredding his clothes and muscles.
The sharp claws sliced through Chen Ke’s body, continuing upward to his chest, as hot, red blood sprayed out from the terrifying wounds that reached deep into his entrails, along with his intestines.
Chen Ke was flung into the air by the monster, flipped in a circle, then crashed against the elevator doors at the end of the corridor before dropping to the ground like a blood-soaked rag.
The Black woman watched the scene in front of her in astonishment; her expression went from sorrow to surprise, and from surprise to confusion.
Chen Ke knelt on one knee, the floor around him stained with his own blood, but apart from a torn suit, there were no wounds whatsoever on his body.
A cracking sound came from Chen Ke’s head as a helmet split into four pieces and slid off. Before hitting the ground, the remnants of the helmet turned into white dust and dissipated.
Chen Ke looked at the Black woman, who had a dangerous and complex expression on her face, and the several people behind her were also looking at him with serious expressions.
Neither Chen Ke nor the Black woman spoke, and the monster’s strange cry broke their brief eye contact. They both looked at the monster, remembering what the most important thing was now.
“This is the target!” said the Black woman, her hands and body sparking with white and blue flashes.
In her left hand, she held a broadsword that emitted a white halo, its shape ancient and solid, very much like the bloodletting dagger Chen Ke had previously owned. Her forearms were wrapped with binding straps, stained with mottled blood.
The jacket on the woman’s body flickered with blue light, transforming into an Ancient Roman Gladiator-style top with shoulder guards to showcase her chocolate-colored muscular body.
Her lower body glimmered with two flashes of white light; the tight jeans she had been wearing were replaced with a thigh-revealing, slit cheongsam skirt, and her feet were now in black leather boots.
This attire was very eye-catching, but at this critical juncture, Chen Ke had no interest in admiring this Black beauty.
The strapping Black man behind her also switched his attire in an instant, donning a helm and draped in a red robe, wielding a lumberjack’s axe.
They charged past Chen Ke, heading straight for the monster. @@novelbin@@
Chen Ke wanted to take this opportunity to go down through the safety passage, but the remaining four people were at the door, and their unfriendly looks suggested they had no intention of making way.
The Black strapping man bellowed loudly, emitting a stream of red energy from his body, and Chen Ke could guess that the energy gave the man some kind of advantage.
Indeed, as the Black strapping man powerfully chopped at the monster’s right shoulder, the monster subconsciously used its slender arm to block, and the axe actually embedded slightly into the flesh, but drew no blood.
The Black woman’s sword glowed slightly red, then burst into flames, like a torch. As the strapping Black man pinned the monster down, she thrust her fiery sword toward its abdomen.
The density of the monster’s muscles was indescribable, such that even two Administration Bureau agents equipped with full sets of Holy Relics were unable to damage it in the slightest.
The monster struggled briefly and flung the Black strapping man away, then reached for the Black woman’s shoulder. The woman ducked beneath the claws, rolled backward to gain distance.
Beside Chen Ke, a woman with five Holy Relic gems wrapped around her hand and a man with parted hair also joined the fray, each summoning their own Holy Relics.
What do you think?
