Chen Ke pulled out his Nokia E63, and unsurprisingly, there was no signal. He used the 2-megapixel camera to snap a panoramic shot of the kingdom below the cliff.

The cliff was considerably high; he estimated that heading down to the city would be about 300 meters. The entire kingdom wasn’t all that large. Chen Ke looked around, noting two city walls that divided the urban area, with buildings linked one after another almost without gaps. Most buildings outside the walls had tiled roofs with chimneys, while those inside were adorned with spires and flying buttresses.

The building cluster extended from the distant King’s City right to the cliff beneath Chen Ke’s feet. As he lay on the edge and peered down, he saw a large white steepled cathedral built against the cliff.

A road ran, broken and winding, through the middle of these dilapidated structures, leading to the most splendid King’s City within the walls. Chen Ke could not spot any living soul, and the sky was a dismal white, the sun obscured by thick clouds, with only a few shafts of light piercing through the gaps.

Floating in the sky were white particles that, upon reaching for them, Chen Ke discovered were not snow but ashes.

He cleaned out his backpack. In fact, in the Black Box Space, he hadn’t used much ammunition. Thus, he still had several boxes of standard bullets and .45 Flame Bullet, but only four precious Punishment attribute bullets remained.

...

Chen Ke holstered his gun and noticed a white Holy Relic diamond by his foot…

It was Violet’s sword.

He picked up the diamond and caressed it, thought for a moment, and with a swish, summoned the sword.

“Summoning Holy Relics…”

The sword’s design was somewhat similar to a bloodletting dagger, with a black handle and a blade sharpened on both sides. Depending on the angle one viewed it from, a faint red halo could be seen along the blade.

This was the sword’s special effect: Flame.

Holding the sword, Chen Ke knocked it against the cliffside, producing crisp clinks and small sparks. Even unlit, the sword was imbued with the power of fire. Once ignited, it would turn into a flame that could be wielded.@@novelbin@@

Chen Ke was pleased and wanted to revert the sword back into a diamond.

“Huh?”

No matter how much he concentrated, the sword remained unflinchingly in its blade form. At that moment, he suddenly realized something.

When he summoned the sword just now, it seemed not to consume any lifespan…

The life countdown displayed 9 hours and 57 minutes remaining. Correct, there was certainly no consumption…

What was going on? Was his ability malfunctioning, Chen Ke wondered in confusion?

No, the countdown of his lifespan was still ticking down by the second. He tried the Intimidation Trigger again, and a red aura surged from behind, retracted back into him after finding no target.

Summoning Holy Relics here indeed didn’t consume lifespan! But the Relic couldn’t be reverted back into a diamond either…

Confused, he gazed towards the Medieval King’s City below the cliff, his mind filled with countless questions.

Initially, he thought he had just been transported by a monster to some remote area, but on closer reflection, everything here seemed highly abnormal.

It was too quiet. The whole city felt lifelessly silent, and it didn’t resemble an ancient ruin… Although these buildings were dilapidated, they gave Chen Ke the impression: indeed, hundreds of thousands of people were living here.

Chen Ke decided to find a path and go down for a look.

Just as he was about to move, he noticed that the coat and shirt on him were torn into strips by the monster’s claws, revealing his six-pack abs, which felt quite cool.

Chen Ke simply took off his coat and shirt, organized his things, and put them into his backpack, then summoned the doctor’s worn coat.

With a swish, the upper half of Chen Ke’s body was covered by an old coat from the Victorian Era. Since it didn’t consume lifespan, he might as well move about wearing this.

This Holy Relic clothing only swapped appearances and provided special effects, so even while wearing it, Chen Ke still felt as if he was shirtless, a truly odd sensation…

Chen Ke wandered around and found himself on a small platform jutting out from the cliffside. At one corner of the platform, there was a narrow path clinging to the cliffside.

The path could only accommodate one person, with a steep cliff on the other side. Gazing toward the end of it, he estimated that not far ahead there might be a cave he could enter.

He steadied himself against the cliffside, and cautiously proceeded downhill along the narrow path. As it was sloping downwards, he didn’t dare to move too quickly, fearing the gravel was too slippery and a careless step could send him tumbling down the cliff, a loss too great to recover from.

Chen Ke tried his best not to look down and focused his attention on the end of the trail before him, shuffling downwards.

“Owwooooo!!”

Suddenly, a wolf’s howl came from around the corner at the end of the trail, and Chen Ke’s pupils dilated; his left hand quickly drew out the PPQ .45 aimed at the end of the trail.

A black wolf sauntered out from around the corner, tilting its head as it gazed at Chen Ke.

This was seriously bad luck. Even in such a place, a monster appeared! Chen Ke cursed silently.

The wolf sniffed at Chen Ke, then growled lowly, its saliva dripping down through its teeth.

It seemed it had been hungry for a long time.

“+30 minutes”

“+30 minutes”

“+30 minutes”

“+30 minutes”

A torrent of murderous intent surged towards Chen Ke, and he raised an eyebrow. He could handle this intensity. The wolf had no attribute tags displayed around it, indicating it was merely a purebred wolf, not a monster.

In a narrow encounter, the first to act wins!

Chen Ke pulled the trigger; the gunshot echoed through the heavens, bringing discordant noise to the silent world.

The wolf clearly had never seen a gun. It didn’t understand how its opponent could harm it without moving. Its head and body were pierced and scorched by the Flame Bullet. The powerful .45 caliber bullets tore its bones and muscles to shreds, and the bursting flames turned the mangled tissue into black ash.

The wolf collapsed toward the edge of the cliff, and Chen Ke watched the body fall onto the rooftops below with a dull noise.

Perhaps using so many bullets had been overkill, after all, as the Flame Bullet was somewhat excessive against a mere wild animal.

The existence of wolves here meant there was an ecosystem, and perhaps humans could be encountered too.

Chen Ke glanced down again toward King’s City, refocused, and quickened his pace.

“OWWOOO!!!!!”

Another wolf howl sounded, but this time it was different—it made Chen Ke lose 5 minutes of life every second to resist the mental attack.

Chen Ke stopped in his tracks and saw several black wolves poke their heads around the corner, one of which was slightly larger and had attributes displayed!

[Mental Attack]

==================

[Flame Weakening]

“I get it, did I just kill your pup?” Chen Ke said.

This creature was a wolf with the ability to launch mental attacks, similar enough to a mythical Mann-faced dog. It wasn’t too difficult for Chen Ke to handle in his current state, but the narrow trail was problematic…

However, these beasts didn’t care about that; one after another, they ran toward Chen Ke. He cursed under his breath and continuously pulled the trigger, knocking one wolf after another off the cliff.

Perhaps there was a wolf den just around the corner of the trail. Chen Ke had killed four wolves in rapid succession. Their bodies burned and fell toward the city below, while his 13 bullets were quickly depleted, yet many more wolves were still swarming towards him.
