Chapter 56 - 056 Attribute

Chen Ke couldn’t reload his magazine, so he had to stuff his gun back into its holster; he could only rely on his right hand wielding the Fire-igniting Broadsword to slash at the approaching pack of wolves.

As he swung the broadsword, he retreated, hoping to make his way back to the platform above to devise a new plan, but the wolves gave him no chance.

Some wolves even slipped and fell off the cliff, but more surged out from their dens along the cliff edges.

Chen Ke guessed that around the corner of the cliff there must be a large cave connected by various passages; otherwise, it wouldn’t have been possible for the wolves to establish a den here.

“Howl!!!”

The alpha wolf, seeing too many of its young killed by Chen Ke, finally erupted in anger and lunged at him personally.

...

Before Chen Ke could curse, the monstrous wolf pounced on him, but at the same time, the Fire-igniting Broadsword pierced through its body. Even without igniting the Sword God, the temperature that automatically rose from the blade upon striking the target was enough to ignite the creatures. Chen Ke lost his balance, and he and the wolf tumbled down the cliff, locked together.

For a moment, Chen Ke thought this was how he would die. However, only after he hit the ground with a thud did he realize he had landed luckily.

He pushed away the scorched corpse of the monstrous wolf and found himself on a lower ledge of the cliff, a spot only two or three meters wide. Just three or four meters above was the cliff path. He hadn’t noticed this protruding part when he was above, as it had been obscured by the path.

He glanced at the wolf’s corpse, its fur fluttering slightly in the wind, shimmering with a blue little orb.

“Hey! Blue?”

Chen Ke, excited, knelt on one knee beside the corpse of the monstrous wolf and reached his hand into the blue orb, groping around until he touched a wooden handle.

He grabbed the handle and pulled the object out. The blue glow flashed, and the orb transformed into a dagger about 20 centimeters in length in Chen Ke’s hand.

“Consume 20 minutes of lifespan to identify Holy Relics!”

[Glimmering Black Ring Candle Holder]

[Durability: Complete]

[Mysterious Attribute Enhancement: Arcane power increases by 20%, Illusion Technique range by 20%, Magic duration by 20%]

[Mental Resistance: Holder gains 70% resistance to sanity attacks](Unable to trigger: Intelligence deficiency)

[Illusion Dispel: Lighting it dispels low-class illusions within the range of the candlelight](Unable to trigger: Intelligence deficiency)

After identification, the vague object in Chen Ke’s hands emitted a dazzling blue brilliance, materializing into a silver, ornately carved candle holder fitted with three white candles!

Chen Ke scrutinized the candle holder in his hand. Its trident handle felt slightly cold to the touch, and the overly elaborate carvings on the handle seemed somewhat fanciful without substance.

On the silver frame, the three white candles were carved with spiral patterns. Chen Ke tried to separate the candles from the candle holder but found that no matter how much force he used, he couldn’t pull them out or break them.

He brought his Fire-igniting Broadsword close to the candle holder, trying to light the candles to see what would happen. Before the sword could ignite, the three candles lit up on their own.

The blue flame was like a ghostly fire from the underworld; even under the sunlight, Chen Ke could see the faint blue candlelight cast on the ground.

He shook the candlestick and then blew fiercely at the candle flame. The flame remained unaffected and continued burning quietly.

At the same time, the candle began to melt, with tears of wax slowly trailing down its spiraled pattern.

How to extinguish it? Just as Chen Ke thought this, the flame extinguished itself.

It seemed that these Holy Relics with state-switching capabilities functioned under the same principle as those summoned by Holy Relics diamonds. The holder merely needed to think, and they could switch states without being destroyed by others.@@novelbin@@

This candlestick was of blue quality, slightly different from the white Holy Relics he had previously possessed. From the item description on the candlestick, he gathered at least four key pieces of information.

Firstly, Pihom had once mentioned that Spiritual Attributes included six classes and eighteen types. Chen Ke was not sure how many types each class had, but from the entry “Mysterious Attribute enhancement: Arcane power increased by 20%, Illusion range expanded by 20%, Magic duration extended by 20%”, it appeared that if each class had three sub-attributes, wouldn’t it precisely match the six times three equating to eighteen?

The three attributes under Mysterious Attribute: Arcane, Illusion, and Magic. He had already seen how powerful illusions could be through encounters with monsters; they were not merely eye-blocking skills but could physically materialize.

Secondly, the candlestick’s special effects enhanced the three major Mysterious Attributes, though each in a different way. Arcane increased in power, Illusion in range, and Magic in duration—did this indirectly suggest that the focal points of these attributes were fixed?

For example, were all Arcane used for offensive casting, all Illusion for illusion and control, and all Magic solely for adding buffs? Thinking deeper, could the so-called Transcendent Skills also fall into six classes and eighteen types? Along with various Holy Relics, could this not lead to a myriad of battle styles?

Thirdly, the Class of the Holy Relics. This was the first time Chen Ke possessed a Holy Relic that emitted a blue glow. In the Black Box Space, operators from the Administration Bureau also used white and blue Holy Relics in conjunction.

Looking at the combination of effects, blue indeed seemed more powerful than white, but both appeared to primarily serve a supportive role. The candlestick itself had no effects applicable in direct combat, and its form was not that of a weapon.

Was blue necessarily better than white? Or was blue only for supportive use while white was for offensive? Might there be other colors?

Fourth, Holy Relics required certain attributes from their holders!

This black ring candlestick possessed two extremely potent effects; a 70% immunity to psychic attacks, which was simply astonishing! For monsters Chen Ke could handle, he could almost completely negate their mental damage, and for much stronger monsters, he would at least not waste too much of his lifespan in resisting psychic attacks.

Another effect was even more incredible. As long as the candle was lit, any lower-grade illusions within the range of the candlelight became ineffective… Not only that, but it could also indirectly detect the Class of entities capable of casting illusions, unknown if the Administration Bureau had similar equipment.

However, impressive and useful as these two effects were, they required the holder’s intelligence attribute! And clearly, Chen Ke’s intelligence wasn’t sufficient…

The difference between intelligence and wisdom was significant; intelligence was a person’s innate limit, while wisdom was the experience learned later… A person could become an expert in a certain field through continuous learning and trying, but they couldn’t surpass Einstein in this way.

Whether it was the Administration Bureau or any other organization, if they had the capability to boost a person’s intelligence, that would be truly miraculous…

Besides intelligence, there must be other attributes… Chen Ke guessed, probably also including strength, agility, and so on…

But reality was not a game; one couldn’t just add a point to transform a thin man into a muscular one or a simpleton into a genius.

It definitely wasn’t that simple…

Since he couldn’t use the candlestick now and couldn’t turn it into diamonds, Chen Ke could only stuff it into his bag; there was no worry about the candles breaking inside the bag anyway.
