Chapter 81: Chapter 081 Chen, Madhava, Leibniz

Priskin was in his workshop, figuring out how to convert a shotgun into a Gatling. His work had already started to show some results; he had disassembled at least eight shotguns and was trying to feed twelve gauge deer bullets into eight barrels at once with a pump-action loading mechanism…

“Pihom knocked on the door of Priskin’s workshop. “Priskin, how is your ultimate weapon coming along?”

“It’s not going smoothly, but the weapon I modified for Chen Ke is finished, and you’re going to love it!” Priskin put down his work and said with a smile.

Chen Ke leaned against the door frame, smiling amicably.

Priskin turned around and took out a modified M16A2 from a gun case, pulled the charging handle a few times, then handed it to Chen Ke.

Chen Ke’s eyes lit up. The M16A2 no longer resembled the original weapon from the outside appearance; it had a longer barrel and a stabilizing stock, the original factory handle on top was removed and replaced with an Aimpoint M2 scope.

...

The stock handguard was replaced with one equipped with a Picatinny rail, complete with a bipod and an angled foregrip, and a suppressor was added as well.

“This is yours, ‘Countdown to Life’. You should really take it to the range for a try, get a feel for it,” Priskin said proudly.

“Praise him, Chen Ke, Priskin treats every modified gun as a work of art. He’s showing off his masterpiece to you,” Pihom said, laughing.

“This gun doesn’t need my praise; just looking at it, I know it won’t disappoint me,” Chen Ke said as he took the gun and examined it.

It felt really cool to the touch, way more impressive than the Fire Kirin I bought in CF.

“This is a nice long-range suppression weapon, but I still have to remind you, Chen Ke, the postman’s operations are diverse, you need to prepare the most suitable weapons for different kinds of operations. At least, this gun is usually hard to carry around because it’s too long,” Pihom commented.

“Besides hijacking vehicles, what else will we do, Pihom? Why not take this time to explain?” Chen Ke asked, leaning against the door.

“In fact, last time’s hijacking operation is not our usual way of doing things. As a rule, we don’t use our guns unless necessary,” Pihom said with a smile.

“So, you mean covert operations? Those where you wear tight suits and pick locks in the night?” Chen Ke asked.

“That’s part of it, but not all, and you don’t need to wear tight suits… unless you want to… Theoretically, the definition of a covert operation is very broad here. Aside from not being discovered, making everyone shut up and comply counts too,” Pihom explained.

“Oh…” Chen Ke roughly understood.

Bursting in, making everyone get down, grabbing the stuff, and running away, that also counts as a covert operation; after all, by the time security forces arrived, one would be far away…

“Last operation, Priskin and Hall rated your performance very highly. Did you really make four S.W.A.T. officers surrender just with a word from you?” Pihom asked with narrowed eyes.

A chill went down the back of Chen Ke’s neck.

“More or less,” he replied evasively.

“It was fucking urgent at that time. I saw Hall pinned to the ground with four MP5s at his head. I didn’t think, I just felt that Hall was either going to get killed or definitely be taken away, but when Chen Ke went up and shouted, the four S.W.A.T. members just obediently put their guns down on the ground. Fuck, if you were there, you would have been as surprised as I was,” Priskin added with excitement.

“How did you do it?” Pihom seemed intent on getting to the bottom of it.

“I’m not really sure, maybe they just subconsciously…” Chen Ke racked his brain for various reasons, trying to come up with a lie that would convince Pihom.

He couldn’t very well say it was all thanks to his killing intent, right?

The three fell silent for a while.

“Hahaha! I don’t give a damn how you did it, I just hope you can keep doing it!” Pihom and Priskin suddenly burst out laughing.

“Alright… I’ll do my best,” Chen Ke said, chuckling along and wiping the cold sweat from his forehead.

After leaving Priskin, Pihom took Chen Ke to the next room, where a woman was sitting at a work table, painting a blank mask with her back to the door.

Noticing someone standing behind her, the woman turned around with an annoyed look on her face.

“Old Man Pi, you know I don’t like being disturbed while I’m creating,” the woman said, her voice deep and magnetic, with a distinct rolled accent.

Chen Ke took a good look at the woman, she was very sturdy, with skin like Dove chocolate, long brownish-black hair tied into a ponytail, wearing a dark purple crop-top tank and a black sleeveless leather jacket, black leggings and short boots, with a gun holster tied to her thigh, holding a black Glock pistol inside.

Her features were tough, lips painted with purple lipstick, and Chen Ke guessed she was of Latin American descent.

The woman glanced at Pihom, then looked over at Chen Ke, her gaze lingering on him as she sized him up.

“Just introducing you to a new member, we won’t bother you too long,” Pihom said with a smile.

“Is this the new guy who made four S.W.A.T. members drop to their knees just by opening his mouth?” the woman asked, looking at Chen Ke.

“She is Lucina, our mask artist here and…” Pihom stopped midway through his introduction.

“And arm-wrestling champion, best assault specialist, master of locks, fight expert… Just because you bluffed four S.W.A.T members doesn’t mean you can bluff me… Your name is Chen Ke, right?” Lucina said with contempt.

“Sounds like you’re not easy to mess with,” shrugged Chen Ke.

“When Lucina has her sights on you, you’re as good as dead; I’m not joking.” At this moment, Hall passed by the doorway and added a comment.

“Go screw yourself, noob Hall,” Lucina flipped him off.

“Tonight, I will conquer you! Last time was just your luck! Another three hundred rounds tonight!” Hall stuck his head in again to add his comment before quickly scurrying off.

Chen Ke looked at Lucina with a strange gleam in his eyes.

“He means Tekken 5 on the PS3, that noob has never won against me,” shrugged Lucina.

“Excuse me for being blunt… but we have a teammate in the hands of others… and it looks like you all are not in the slightest hurry…” said Chen Ke.

“Don’t doubt our unity, little brother, we’re like… like a big colorful clump of Play-Doh! Even though we all have our own colors, we’ve long since become one. It’s not that we aren’t worried; it’s just no use worrying now, so, don’t force yourself, understand?” Lucina explained.

“I like that analogy,” chuckled Pihom, crossing his arms.

Chen Ke sighed and looked past Lucina to the unfinished mask on the workbench behind her.

The mask’s design was that of a ferocious ghostface, as if it was baring its teeth and sneering at everyone, only missing a line saying “I’ll kill you!”

“That’s a nice mask.” Noticing Lucina watching him, Chen Ke offered his comment.

“That’s the mask I’m preparing for you,” said Lucina.

“Oh? For me? Why such a ferocious face?” Chen Ke asked.

“Every mask represents a unique courier, and this face represents your way of doing things, inspired by your deed of holding steady four S.W.A.T. members with just a shout,” Lucina clapped her hands as if sharing her creative epiphany.

“Sounds reasonable,” Chen Ke was noncommittal.

“So, Chen Ke, do you have a nickname?” Lucina inquired.

“Huh?” Chen Ke was taken aback.

“Lucina likes to address acquaintances in her own way…” Pihom shook his head.

That just means she likes giving people nicknames…

“Looks like you don’t have one, so I’ll give you one. How about Chen, Mad Fak, Ke for short? Mad Fak,” Lucina said with a laugh.

“That’s not funny, Lucina, I don’t like you calling me that,” Chen Ke shook his head.

“It’s not up to you; let’s arm-wrestle. If I win, that’s what I’ll call you, if I lose, you can call me whatever you want…” Lucina proposed with a smile.

“Bring it on, am I afraid of you?” Chen Ke laughed and walked over.
