Chapter 63: Chapter 63: The Duke’s Heir VS The Underdog Female Supporting Character (Part 3)

A tiny creature, hardly bigger than a palm, was lying on a soft cushion in a basket, its newborn eyes yet to open, its nose occasionally twitching. Perhaps unaccustomed to the sudden light, its body shrank slightly.

Of course, she liked it! In her previous life, Gu Shengyin adored such fluffy things; she nearly couldn’t resist reaching out to touch it.

But recalling Veronica’s character, she struggled to suppress the urge, instead, her gaze involuntarily fixated on the little one in the basket.

Little did she know, to the Second Prince, her appearance was much cuter than the kitten in the basket.

The stunningly beautiful girl clearly adored the kitten to death, her eyes practically glued to it, yet she kept a stern face, pretending to be serious and indifferent. Such a child, the Second Prince felt a tickle in his index finger.

How he wanted to pinch her face.

The Second Prince tucked his restless fingers back into his sleeve and handed the basket to Gu Shengyin: “Here, take good care of her. I’ll often check in.”

In a wilderness thousands of miles away from the Royal City, a frail figure was struggling along.

“Your Excellency, why are we rushing to the Royal Capital?” the figure asked, her voice clear.

That person was Eve Heather.

No voice came from the ring, and Eve Heather wasn’t surprised.

With her free left hand, she clutched the necklace at her chest, the unfamiliar soul residing in the necklace around her neck.

Two months earlier, when she found the necklace, she kept it simply because she was a girl who loved beautiful things.

Until she saw the shadow—or rather, the soul—in the necklace.

The condition offered by that soul was tempting: if she gathered enough souls for him, he would tell her how to enhance her abilities.

Eve Heather agreed on the spot, even though what the soul asked of her defied God’s will. But what did that matter? When her father abused and beat her, she had prayed countless times for the almighty God to rescue her, yet he never did.

Until she could bear no more and pushed the man into the river. She was terrified at that moment, afraid that God would punish her, a sinner who had committed patricide, but nothing happened. @@novelbin@@

From then on, she knew that the so-called God simply didn’t exist. Or rather, the exalted deities didn’t care about the lives of mere mortals like them.

So when she learned of a chance to become stronger, she unhesitatingly agreed to the soul’s request.

Lately, however, His Excellency seemed a bit off.

Eve Heather thought to herself that previously, whenever His Excellency appeared, she always felt a chilly sensation, as if being targeted by a venomous snake, but since last month, that feeling had vanished.

His Excellency spoke much less than before and no longer demanded her to find living souls. His only request was for her to hurry to the Royal Capital.

Eve Heather felt this version of His Excellency was much easier to deal with. If it had been before, she would never dare to ask any questions.

“Don’t think too much, nor ask too much. Whatever you want, I will give it to you when the time comes,” a chilly voice appeared in her mind.

It was His Excellency!

Eve Heather was startled and bowed her head respectfully in response.
