Chapter 70: Chapter 70: The Duke’s Heir VS The Underdog Female Supporting Character (Part 10)
The Demon King only felt his heartbeat quicken—if he still had one of those things. @@novelbin@@
The sensation that had accompanied him since he awoke had become unbearably intense upon arriving in the Royal Capital, and today, it had reached its peak!
He felt his entire soul trembling. He could sense that what he had been longing for had finally come before him.
He had to find her!
Eve only felt the heat of the necklace scorching her skin. She wondered if His Excellency was all right, feeling somewhat uneasy, since, in this unfamiliar place, the enigmatic stranger was her only guarantee of safety.
“Hurry! Move it, you lot! The gladiator fight is about to start; Lord Barton has already warmed up, it’s time to put these little ones up there!”
Indeed, the people at the underground beast-fighting arena had taken good care of Eve these past few days, but she also had come to understand what kind of place it was.
“Don’t worry, I will help you. When the chaos starts, take the chance to slip away quietly,” the Demon King consoled her.
Soon, Eve and a dozen or so other youths of similar age were herded into a huge steel cage.
At first, these youngsters were somewhat bewildered, but when they saw the massive cage, the bloodstains on the ground, and the excited expressions of the spectators in the stands, a few of them suddenly realized where they were and their expressions turned to one of despair.
They wanted to escape, but by then the cage was locked. It was made of a special reinforced steel that made it utterly impossible for them to break through.
“Roar!” A thunderous roar cut through the air, and to the left of the arena, four great hulking men appeared, shouldering a cage that contained a huge tiger-like Demon Beast.
“Let us welcome the king of the Royal Capital’s underground beast-fighting arena—the Sixth-Rank Demon Beast Thunder Winged Tiger!” the announcer bellowed with zeal.
The atmosphere in the venue immediately shot to a climax.
Many nobles waved items in their hands, their expressions tinged with madness.
Eve’s face turned deathly pale within the cage. Even the dullest person would by now understand the fate that awaited them.
Simultaneously, a man emerged on the right side of the arena.
This man was simply clad with a cloth wrapped around his waist, his muscles bulging. He waved vigorously to the audience.
Once again, the spectator seats erupted with screams.
“Let’s welcome the hero of the underground beast-fighting arena—Barton the Thunder Lion!”
“Barton!”
“Barton!”
Gu Shengyin was somewhat surprised. Most of those seated here were nobles, and she couldn’t have imagined that the nobility—who were usually the epitome of decorum and well-dressed—could possess such… a frenzied side.
She took a careful glance at Barton, a Great Sword Master, on par with herself.
Gu Shengyin was perplexed. The cultivation of a Great Sword Master would allow one to find a dignified and lucrative job anywhere. Why would someone choose to be in a place where they skirted the edge of life and death daily?
While Gu Shengyin pondered, the massive Thunder Winged Lion had been released into the cage.
“Ahh!” A scream rang out as the children scrambled to the corner farthest from the Thunder Winged Lion.
But this was futile, for the cage was only so large.
A bloodthirsty gleam passed through the eyes of the Thunder Winged Lion. In a swift motion, it approached the nearest youth.
Then, it opened its mouth, revealing its razor-sharp teeth.
What do you think?
