Cao Cuo could still understand at first, but he was dumbfounded later on. “What realm, what seed?”
Gu Yang looked at him and shook her head. “It’s scary to be uncultured.”
Cao Cuo: “…”
Cao Cuo was humiliated by a brat two heads shorter than him. He was so angry that his face turned red.
He pointed at the tree. “You know it? Then why didn’t it respond to you?”
Gu Yang gently stroked the tree, smiling at Cao Cuo. “Who said it didn’t? Watch closely.”@@novelbin@@
She turned to the tree and waved. “Hi, Iron Tree.”
To his astonishment, the Iron Tree shook its leaves and responded, “Hello, Gu Yang.”
Cao Cuo froze, eyes wide in disbelief, taking two steps back. “It can really talk?”
Gu Yang crossed her arms proudly. “Told you I wasn’t lying!”
I’m totally lying.
Cao Cuo muttered, “If I had known…”
Gu Yang chimed in, “It’s a species of the Horde.”
“Does that mean I can actually hear it?” he asked, still skeptical.
Gu Yang nodded seriously. “Yup, you can.”
I’ll just hypnotize him later so he can chat with the plants.
Talking to plants was harmless, but if he actually started hearing them, that would be a different problem.
Cao Cuo, not completely fooled, sighed. “Is this something you can really learn in class?”
“Of course! Maybe not now, but eventually. And hey, if you can read, you can teach yourself from the textbook. Pass the final exam, and I’ll even give you a gift.”
Gu Yang decided to offer Cao Cuo a little reward. After all, he still had a long way to go in learning biology.
Seeing Gu Yang’s bright smile and sparkling eyes, Cao Cuo’s curiosity was piqued. “What’s the gift?”
Gu Yang grinned. “That’s a secret. You’ll find out when the time comes.”
With that, she successfully lured Cao Cuo back to class.
By the end of the semester, he ranked first in the class, surpassing Gu Ying, the former top student.
Gu Ying, who studied diligently every day, never skipped class or dozed off, was completely shocked. How had he lost to someone like Cao Cuo, who barely showed up?
Afterward, Cao Cuo approached Gu Yang. “So, where’s my gift?”
With a grin, Gu Yang carefully broke off a plump, pink leaf from one of her prized succulents and handed it to him. “Here.”
Her soft, fair palm held the delicate leaf, which resembled a petal at first glance.
“A leaf?” Cao Cuo stared down at her, clearly thinking, Are you seriously giving me this?
Gu Yang waved her plate of succulents at him. “Haven’t you heard? ‘A flower holds a world, a tree holds wisdom.’ When this leaf takes root, it’ll grow into another beautiful, cute succulent just like this one.”
Cao Cuo looked at her skeptically. “Really? Little liar, are you tricking me again?”
He had already heard from Gu Ying that Gu Yang knew some ‘immortal arts.’ He suspected she was using those tricks to make it seem like she could talk to plants.
“Of course not,” Gu Yang said with a grin. “Here, I’ll even give you this pot of peach eggs.”
She handed him the pot of succulents, keeping only one small leaf for herself. “This one piece is enough for me. In time, I can grow another whole succulent from it.”
Cao Cuo took the succulents and leaves home to plant. But two months later, the leaves hadn’t sprouted, and the entire pot of succulents Gu Yang had given him withered away.
If he hadn’t seen with his own eyes how Gu Yang’s single leaf had sprouted and grown into a new peach egg, he would have sworn she had tricked him again.
What do you think?
