Chapter 1117: When Did You Make a Promise?

Cao Cuo grew bolder over time. He even stole a few more pots of succulents from Gu Yang, but without fail, he managed to kill every single one.
Feng Jue started calling him the “Succulent Killer.”
Gu Yang never told Cao Cuo about his autism. Instead, she quietly worked on helping him manage it.
As a result, Cao Cuo became less withdrawn. However, he soon found himself wrapped up in friendly rivalry with Gu Jin, Feng Jue, and Gu Ying.
Gu Yang noticed the kids were secretly competing with each other. A healthy competition—just what they needed!
With everything running smoothly at the orphanage, Director Liang won first prize in the Liang City evaluation and was awarded 4,000 yuan.
She gave the entire bonus to Gu Yang, knowing that the orphanage’s success was largely thanks to her. Gu Yang had taken on many responsibilities, and this reward was well deserved.
Despite her young age, Gu Yang was mature and responsible enough to manage the money without issue.
During the New Year, Gu Yang treated Feng Jue, Gu Jin, Cao Cuo, and Gu Ying to hotpot. They all enjoyed the meal together.
There’s nothing quite like eating hotpot in snowy weather—pure bliss!
As Gu Yang sat at the hotpot table with her friends, the steam rising between them, she caught a glimpse of Feng Jue through the mist. She found herself lost in thought.
Hadn’t it been not long ago that she promised to eat hotpot with someone else on a snowy day?@@novelbin@@
Maybe it was the moisture in the air, but suddenly her eyes felt watery.
How strange. Why did she feel so sad all of a sudden?
Feng Jue’s gentle voice broke through her daze. “Sister, are you okay?”
Gu Yang blinked back the tears, smiling softly. “I’m fine.”
Even though this world wasn’t the same one from before her car accident, its history had developed almost identically.
The touchscreen smartphone had just become popular. After finishing the hotpot, Gu Yang decided to buy one for herself. Since she was still underage and couldn’t get a phone card, she figured she’d ask Director Liang to help her with that later.
Finally, she could replace her old phone!
“Sister, do you like phones?” Feng Jue asked as he walked beside her.
Without thinking, Gu Yang nodded. “Yeah, I do.”
“Then I’ll buy lots of phones for you in the future,” he said, his voice full of youthful sincerity.
Gu Yang laughed. “You don’t need to buy that many. But I agree, phones will become a lot more useful in the future.”
Feng Jue smiled. “Then I’ll get you the best phone one day!”
His earnestness made her smile even wider. She playfully pinched his cheek and nodded. “Alright, I’ll hold you to that.”
But the thought of mobile phones brought her back to wondering—if this world’s history was so similar to the one she once knew… what else might unfold the same way?
“In the future, the electronic tech industry should really take off. If we had the money to start a company in that field, we could make a fortune,” Gu Yang said casually. She wasn’t exactly swimming in cash at the moment—just spending time with the kids at the orphanage. Investing in a promising industry felt far off.
But Feng Jue took her words to heart.
“Sister, do you want to make a lot of money?” he asked.
Gu Jin glanced over, listening too.
“Of course,” Gu Yang replied with a smile. “Who doesn’t want to be rich? Look at our orphanage—it’s only improved because we got the funds.”
Besides, she was destined to inherit billions one day.
“Then I’ll earn a lot of money for you to spend,” Feng Jue said earnestly.
Gu Yang laughed. “Alright. But remember, a gentleman earns his wealth honestly. We can’t take shortcuts or end up like Director Li, putting personal gain over the interests of the country and the people.”
She grinned at the kids. “It’s still early to talk about this, but one day I’ll help you all get rich.”
The children nodded eagerly, though they didn’t fully understand.
On the way back, they passed a house engulfed in flames. The fire raged, sending thick smoke billowing into the sky.
What do you think?
