Chapter 494: Chapter 537: The Transformation of Yang Xiao

Chapter Five Hundred and Thirty-Seven

Hearing the name Bai Susu, Yang Xiao’s face subtly shifted.

However, he quickly regained his composure, replying indifferently, “People change; nobody remains the same forever. Xiaoyi, you have no idea what I’ve been through these years. If you did, you’d understand.”

“Then tell me, what have you been through? What could lead you to abandon your identity, forsake your family and love, to live here, and for so many years not to return, without even sending a message?” Song Yi challenged.

Yang Xiao walked to the balcony, his gaze filled with a world-weary expression, “Do you really want to hear?”

“Yes, I want to hear. I want to understand why the Yang Big Brother of those days has changed so much?” Song Yi, thinking of the decades she’d wasted, felt a strong surge of resentment and wanted to hear Yang Xiao’s explanation.

...

“Alright, since you want to know, I’ll tell you,” Yang Xiao lit a cigarette and began, “Back in the day, I was part of a military operation to strike against drug lords at the border. Due to a leak of our undercover informant’s identity, our squad was trapped. I volunteered to stay behind to cover their retreat. Eventually, I was captured alive, subjected to numerous tortures. I believed that higher-ups would send someone to save me, but years passed by with no rescue, no message—completely forgotten. I was imprisoned for several years in the mountainous regions of Myanmar, chained and toiling away in a living hell. Year after year, I lost hope, knowing only I could save myself; I didn’t want to be a slave for life.

Eventually, I found an opportunity when I met General Leonard’s daughter. She took a liking to me, and I knew this was my only chance. To earn her trust, I became her consort, which finally allowed me to shake off the yoke of servitude. But that wasn’t enough. I used my skills to help General Leonard eliminate several other powerful drug lords, bolstering our united forces. Despite my capabilities, because I was from Hua Country, I was always an outsider. So, I defeated several rivals, married General Leonard’s daughter, and within a few years, after General Leonard lost his life in a skirmish, I smoothly succeeded him as General. You see, for survival, sometimes you must learn to compromise and let go. If I were still as impulsive as when I was young, I’d be dead by now, certainly not a general of the united forces.”

“Yang Big Brother, why didn’t you leave? After you ceased being a slave and gained their trust, you could have found a chance to slip back to our country. Myanmar borders our land; surely you could have found a way back during these twenty years?” asked Song Yi, puzzled.

“Leave? Why would I leave,” Yang Xiao suddenly laughed mockingly, a wild fervor in his eyes, “I’ve expended so much effort and even married an ugly woman I didn’t love to climb to the rank of General, and you’re asking me to return home? What could I do if I went back? At best, I’d be a retired soldier, possibly receiving some commendation. Yet here, I’m the most powerful General in the united forces. You’ve seen it—I’ve seized control of Mitzina and Pagan, the jadeite heart of Myanmar. Commanding these mines makes me the wealthiest man in the country. Once we take over Myanmar’s government, with my capabilities, eventually I’ll become the President of Myanmar. The entire country will be under my control. I’m going to be the king of Myanmar. Why would you suggest I turn my back on that and return to be an ordinary man? Do you think you’d choose the former over the latter?”

Seeing Yang Xiao’s crazed look, Song Yi suddenly felt afraid.

Yang Xiao suddenly turned around, gripping Song Yi’s arms passionately, “Xiaoyi, stay with me. I know I wronged you in the past, despite our engagement, I still got together with Su Su. I’ve been feeling guilty all these years. Now, it seems like fate that we’ve reunited in Myanmar after so many years. I think this is an opportunity given to me by heaven to make it up to you. Stay, be with me.”

Song Yi struggled, but couldn’t break free. Yang Xiao’s grip was strong, and she said anxiously, “Don’t you already have a wife? Didn’t you marry that daughter of some General?”

Yang Xiao sneered dismissively, “That woman was just a tool to escape from my slave status, I never loved her. Moreover, after marrying me, she took many lovers and fooled around with many men. If it wasn’t for the fact that she was General Leonard’s daughter, why would I have married her? Now, I’m in control of great power and no longer need her. For now, I can’t divorce her, so I’ve placed her under house arrest in the northern mountains of Myanmar. I haven’t seen her for years, and she’s unlikely to reappear. So, you don’t have to worry about her, Xiaoyi. If you come with me, I promise, once I become the President of Myanmar, you’ll be the First Lady. Imagine that, the honor and status as First Lady, something no amount of money can compare to.”

“I don’t want to be any First Lady. I want to go home. Yang Big Brother, please let me go, let me return to my country.” Song Yi became increasingly scared as she spoke, realizing that Yang Xiao was no longer the person she knew—a man who, for power, could employ unscrupulous means, marry a woman he didn’t like, then kick her aside once achieving high position. How was such a man different from the cold-blooded emperors of ancient times?

She had no desire to be this so-called First Lady, to be near such a cold and heartless person.

“Xiaoyi, have you forgotten our engagement? Have you forgotten how much you used to love me? I remember you saying you would only marry me, Yang Xiao, in this lifetime. I remember all of it. I failed you back then, but now I’m willing to marry you, to make you the First Lady. Why do you want to leave?” Yang Xiao insisted forcefully.

“Because, because I already have someone I like, Long Xiaoshan. So please, let me go. The past is far behind us now, I’ve already forgotten about that engagement,” Song Yi said.

“Impossible, don’t try to deceive me. I know you’re still mad about the past, aren’t you? In your heart, you still love me, right?” Yang Xiao stared at Song Yi.

“I’m not lying, I like Long Xiaoshan. Didn’t you say people change? Well, now it’s him I like. And I’ve already given myself to him.”

Yang Xiao’s eyes instantly reddened, “What did you say? You gave your body to him too? Impossible, you must be lying to me, I don’t believe it.”

He suddenly picked up Song Yi forcefully and threw her onto the bed in the room, pouncing on her, “You’re mine. I know there’s still something bothering you in your heart, but that’s alright. Once you become my woman, you will understand that I’m the person you love the most!”
