Chapter 212 - 208: Alterations in Time

[3rd POV]

Turns out it had been quite amusing, as HR had shown them the newly made Star Labs museum. The museum itself was...not really the best, but it had a lot of room for growth as they continued to fight and defeat new foes. As at the moment it was only based around Star Labs, and not the Flash, which she would make sure changes at some point. That, and upgrade the Cisco AI that was supposed to act as the one giving explanations on all the exhibits.

Talia decided that she would help him with it, as she did see its use for the team, that, and she remembered how cool the museum was in the comics, and she hoped to make it the same here. It could also bring in some money for the team, that could be used for all sorts of things, like upgrading certain pieces of Star Labs, to bringing them actual money for the work that they do, more than before at least. That, and it would be a good cover as no one would expect the base of the Flash to be in his own museum.

Talia had gone around the city for a while, getting some lunch for herself and the team, before returning back. She had started to work on upgrading the defenses of the place, deciding that this place needed some better security measures. The first of which would be a metahuman detection system that would automatically send an alert to the team if an unidentified Metahuman entered, as well as their general location.

She had also added more security to their database, making their various computers and information nearly unhackable. She could have made it completely unhackable by human standards, but that would require a bit more time, and would get noticed by Cisco or one of the others, and she didn't want that yet. She wanted it to remain a secret until they found out themselves, mostly so Savitar wouldn't know too early.

During that time, Wally and Barry had gone after a man that was going on a mass break in spree, robbing banks and other high value targets, with the man being given the nickname "Plunder". Normally he would just be a nobody criminal, but in this case, he was very important.

All because Barry had ended up going into the future by accident, after throwing away the Philosopher's Stone into the speed force, an object connected to Savitar that could be used to free him. When he went to the future, he had seen a headline that was talking about Plunder, before watching as his girlfriend, Iris, was murdered in front of him by Savitar.

This was all in the future, meaning it could change, but it still rattled Barry, and he was keeping it a secret at the moment. So when Wally had captured the man instead of him, it had led to a less than happy reaction from Barry, as he was afraid of what that change could mean.

At the moment Talia was stood within the Cortex (The primary room), sitting in a chair absentmindedly spinning in circles while reading a book on advanced star cores, a form of ancient energy cores used by a alien species from far in the past in this universe, with her finding it through the "Library".

The Star Labs had already "Opened" a bit ago, with absolutely no one showing up. Although that was likely because of the lack of advertisements and the fact that it was later into the night, and not the morning.

Sitting, Talia watched as an uncomfortable looking Barry and Iris walked into the room.

"Hey, guys, um...Iris and I, um...we have something we need to tell you" Barry began.

After one long explanation, the team sat in silence, as they processed what they had just heard, before Caitlin began "So you're saying that four months from now, Savitar will..." "Kill me" Iris finished, giving her a small nod.

"Possi-possibly" Barry said, fumbling over his words as he held himself together.

"It's okay guys, I am okay, really"

"How are you going to tell dad?" Wally asked.

"I'm not"

"Iris he needs to know"

"I agree with Wallace. Joe needs to know" HR said, putting in his two cents. Joe not knowing would likely cause more problems than anything, as he could potentially mess up plans they'd make regarding her and Savitar. But Iris wasn't thinking about that very much at the moment.

"No, guys, this news would blind him, okay? We all saw - well, besides Talia - how crazy he went when Wally was in danger. Imagine if he knew that Savitar was trying to kill me. He would go after Savitar himself" Iris said, bringing up a decent point, but one that was flawed.

Wally hearing this, got to his feet and began to walk off, only to stop as Barry said his name "Wally..the future isn't set. There's still hope"

"But, Barry, the future, it's harder to change than you can imagine. The future wants to happen. The way it was explained to me was, imagine if you had a row of dominos, okay? Now, those dominos are all set up, and it-it's-" "Here" Cisco said, handing him a small jar full of dominos.

"So convenient, uh Barry, if you would" HR said as Barry sped forward, putting all the dominos in place on a nearby table.

"So imagine, okay, domino-each domino is a moment in time. One moment in time leads to the next, so as one domino falls, it hits the next, it hits the next, and the next, and the next, and so on, leading to the inevitable conclusion, and that is...the future" HR said, knocking the dominos down.

"And what happens if we alter certain events?"

"Matters which ones you alter" Talia said, as HR pointed and nodded.

"I'll let her explain this part, she knows more about it than I do" HR said, backing up, as Talia sighed.

"Alright, so these dominos, you see how they're all lined up properly? Imagine those dominos are events that have happened, like one is the arrest of Plunder, the next is the arrest of someone else important, all of these leading to the future. Now, if you were to change these "Dominos" and get rid of them, that could change the future" Talia said, before continuing.

"By changing certain events in the present, you can change the future. But, you have to be incredibly careful with which ones you do change. As by changing certain ones, you could lead to the outcome being even worse than it normally was, or it could become something even worse"

"What could be worse?"

"The birth of an anomaly, a very large one, one that would be a pain in the ass to fix. See, time doesn't like it when you change certain things, and Savitar? The Death of Iris? All of that is likely a "Fixed Point" , a point in time that HAS to happen, one way or another, as it is important to the future as a whole" Talia explained, as Barry frowned.

"So we can't change it?"

"No, you can, you just have to be careful in what ways. Savitar will likely always get his hands on Iris one way or another, but whether or not she dies, THAT can be something you can change. So, the best way to fix things, to save Iris, is to figure out the future events before they happen, and begin to change them. The bigger and more important the event, the more it can change things. ESPECIALLY if it involves Savitar himself, like the birth of an aid that helps him capture Iris, or the creation of a serum that can give him power, or all sorts of things" Talia replied, shaking her head.

"I could help with that" Cisco said, as his vibe powers should be able to help him see into the future, allowing them to see the headlines that would appear, showing them major events that would allow them to change things, hopefully saving Iris.

"Thank you Talia...seriously, you too HR" Barry said, giving her and HR a thankful nod, as she smiled, and softly responded to her friend.

"Not a problem, now...why don't we go and see the future?"
