Universe Infinite Canteen

Chapter 711 711: Harvest Day

Ma Lu inspected four more rooms before finally finding one with a window.

Despite having some guesses in mind, he couldn't help but gasp when he saw the view outside.

He was looking at—a star nebula.

That nebula, primarily red in color, was scattered with hues of green and blue, slowly swirling in the dark universe.

It had no clear boundaries, like a cloud of mist, mysterious yet magnificent.

Even though Ma Lu had visited numerous planes, he couldn't help but stop in his tracks at this sight.

From the oval-shaped porthole, the nebula appeared as if it were within reach, mere inches away, but Ma Lu knew it was actually far, very far.

Even light would possibly take decades to traverse the distance.

In comparison, what was truly closer were the floating rocks around him.

These rocks varied in shape, the smaller ones no more than a few tens of meters while the larger ones were hundreds of kilometers in diameter, scattered all around.

Besides that, Ma Lu also noticed an antenna sticking out from below him to the left, along with two pieces resembling solar panels.

From this, he might conclude that he was currently aboard a spaceship or space station.

Accordingly, the next logical step would be to find the crew members of the spaceship or space station.

Only, Ma Lu had reason to suspect whether they were still alive.

After all, based on the events he had encountered and the scenes he had witnessed along the way, it was clear that the people here had been attacked.

They might have met the same fate as that unlucky soul at 5 minutes and 22 seconds, devoured by something, resulting in him hardly encountering anyone on board.

However, on second thought, what was the deal with that guy in the rabbit costume?

A spiritual infection?

So in this plane, was he up against alien beasts, clade organisms, or even a combination of both?

There were still too few clues, and Ma Lu wasn't in a position to jump to conclusions; he could only continue to move forward.

Ma Lu named his newly acquired footwear "Gravity Boots." With the "Gravity Boots," his speed was significantly increased as he walked another hundred meters.

Ma Lu noticed something; the corridor he was in didn't seem to be straight but had a slight curve.

Considering that he saw nothing but antennas and solar panels from the porthole earlier, this could also mean that the spaceship or space station he was on was a relatively regular polyhedron.

However, this new piece of information wasn't immediately useful.

As Ma Lu pondered with his head down, he heard a noise coming from ahead.

While standing in the darkness, and considering that whatever had killed the owner of the "Gravity Boots" was likely still active on board, he initially thought of retreating silently.

But he quickly changed his mind. Constantly hiding was no solution; it was imperative to figure out what happened on the spaceship or space station as soon as possible.

Besides, he had the Golden Finger that allowed him to revive, so he could afford to take some risks. Therefore, instead of running away, Ma Lu found an empty room and hid inside.

Waiting for the creature at the other end of the corridor to approach.

And the uninvited guest did not disappoint him, although a bit slow and dragging, it finally arrived at the door after three minutes.

Ma Lu, pressed against the wall, saw the shadow of something outside the door.

It was a somewhat deformed creature with a flat head, a wide mouth that took up a third of its head, slender limbs, and a large lump on its back.

Ma Lu held his breath at the sight, not rushing to strike. He waited until the creature had passed the door, silently counted to three, and then suddenly pushed off the ground and charged out.

At the same time, he raised the Harpoon Gun in his hand and fired at the creature.

Under the force of a strong spring, the Fish Spear shot out from the barrel, embedded fiercely into the creature's back, and sent it flying.

However, Ma Lu realized at this moment that the comer didn't seem to be some kind of monster, but a person.

He wore a helmet on his head and carried a strange large round canister on his back.

Plus, the shadow elongated by the light made Ma Lu misjudge and he sent the man away with a thrust.

Hmm, no!

Ma Lu noticed that the unfortunate fellow he had shot seemed not to have died, but let out a groan, struggling to escape.

Seeing this, Ma Lu decisively activated the electric saw again and pulled back the rope, finding that this unfortunate fellow's luck wasn't so bad after all; the fish spear was blocked by the canister on his back, deeply embedded in it.

But learning from past experience, Ma Lu didn't relax his guard and pressed the man to the ground with a foot, meanwhile positioning the electric saw at his neck.

"Don't move, or I can't guarantee your head will stay on your shoulders."

The man indeed stopped struggling upon hearing this.

"Good, now, take off the helmet."

Ma Lu commanded, worried about facing a situation like the one with the person in a rabbit costume earlier.

Fortunately this time, the helmet was not stuck to the man's face; he removed it without difficulty.

Under the helmet was a young face.

It was a woman, with blue eyes, a tall nose, and wavy curls.

Finally, he had encountered a person.

Ma Lu asked, "Who are you?"

The woman bit her lip, but did not respond, her eyes filled with wariness.

"Where are we now, and where have all the other people gone?"

Again, the woman did not speak.

"I mean no harm, I just want to understand the current situation," Ma Lu said, "Are you...a staff member here?"

The woman remained silent until Ma Lu asked again, "Are you mute, or deaf? If you don't speak now, I can only treat you as an enemy."

Finally, she answered, "My name is Annie, I'm an agricultural scientist at the space station."

"You're an agricultural scientist?"

"Yes," with her first statement out, Annie's resistance towards Ma Lu seemed not so strong anymore, "What I'm carrying on my back is the insecticide I developed."

Relieved to see Annie's coherent answer and no sign of mental infection, Ma Lu also eased up and continued, "What exactly happened to this space station, why is there blood and signs of battle everywhere?"

"It's the Insect Tide. We encountered an Insect Tide."

Mentioning the Insect Tide also brought a hint of fear into Annie's eyes, "Those insects killed everyone here and even feasted on the corpses."

Insect Tide? Could it really be that what's in play this time is an "Alien" script?

Ma Lu frowned but didn't rush to keep asking about the Insect Tide; instead, he threw out an unrelated question.

"Are the passcodes for the rooms on this ship all the same?"

"Passcodes?" Annie blinked, "Well, the passcodes from the first to the fourth layer are indeed universal."

"Which layer are we on now?"

"Third Layer."

Ma Lu's spirits lifted, "What's the password."

"Harvest Day." Annie answered, and after a pause, she added, "We are an agricultural cultivation space station, our main business is growing various crops, so the station master used Harvest Day as the password."
