Chapter 710 710: Foot
After paying the price of 16 deaths, Ma Lu finally succeeded in killing the guy in the rabbit costume, taking revenge for himself.
He took a couple of breaths, calming his nearly exploding heart rate a bit.
The first thing he did next was reach out to remove that guy's headpiece, wanting to see what this opponent who had been battling with him until now actually looked like.
However, it wouldn't come off.
At first, Ma Lu thought it was because a fish spear was stuck to it, but even after he pulled the spear out, the headpiece still couldn't be removed.
With no other choice, Ma Lu had to use the Chef's Knife to cut a slit in the headpiece, but he cut into flesh, and still, the headpiece couldn't be taken off.
It was as if the headpiece had been firmly glued to his body with super glue.
With force, Ma Lu even ripped off a piece of flesh along with it.
Fuck! What the hell is this thing?
Ma Lu looked at the piece of flesh that had completely fused with the costume in his hand, and he too was dumbfounded.
Was this guy even human?
Unfortunately, the guy in the rabbit costume was already dead and couldn't answer his questions anymore.
Afterward, Ma Lu used the food scanning feature of the Traveler's Bracelet on him, but there was no response.
This didn't surprise him.
Ma Lu had long noticed that the Traveler's Bracelet's food determination was not solely based on edibility but also came with moral considerations.
Otherwise, he could just stand on the street, and everyone passing by would be considered food.
That this guy, as a humanoid creature with seemingly not low intelligence, was categorized as inedible was not strange.
This also meant that there must be other food sources on this plane.
However, Ma Lu wasn't in the mood to worry about that for now. He next took inventory of the equipment dropped by the guy in the rabbit costume.
Including a Harpoon Gun that could be used for long-range attacks and had a rope for retrieval, a chainsaw for close combat that could replace the crowbar in his hand.
After completing the gear switch, Ma Lu finally stepped out of the room that confined him and came outside.
Outside the door was a corridor.
There seemed to be a problem with the lighting system in the corridor; the light strip above his head kept flashing, and the situation elsewhere wasn't any better.
In some areas, the light strips had outright stopped working; looking down both ends of the corridor, Ma Lu could only see endless, profound darkness.
And it wasn't just the lighting system that was broken; with the help of the flickering light strip, Ma Lu also saw fractured pipes and wires on the wall, and fans that had lost some of their blades still stubbornly rotating, emitting a low humming noise.
Besides, on the walls, there were also dried bloodstains and huge claw marks from some unknown creature; the claw marks had even torn through an alloy door.
The scene in front of him escalated the feeling of foreboding in Ma Lu's heart.
After glancing at the two directions of the corridor, Ma Lu decided to first check out the place where the scream had come from 5 minutes and 22 seconds before.
Grasping the Harpoon Gun in one hand with caution, and clutching the handrail on the wall with the other, he swung forward, walking less than ten meters before he smelled a strong stench of blood.
Ma Lu took two more steps forward but couldn't find a corpse; however, this did not mean that the unfortunate soul had not met with disaster.
Because Ma Lu above and to his left, between two pipes, found a foot wedged in between.
It was indeed a lonely foot.
As for its owner, the whereabouts were unknown.
Ma Lu slightly bent his legs, leapt up, picked off the foot, brought it in front of him, and inspected it carefully.
The reason he did this was not because he had a foot fetish.
Rather, it was because the shoes on the foot were very special; the soles were incredibly hard and seemed to be wrapped in some kind of metal.
Moreover, when he took the foot down from the ceiling, he could feel some sort of strange suction force.
This was also why the foot had been firmly stuck between those two pipes.
Ma Lu first pulled out the severed limb inside, a typical left foot of a human male.
Strong and firm, with calluses on the heel, the large toe, and the ball of the foot where pressure is frequently applied, indicating that its owner had consistently exercised.
He then glanced at the cut, which was not smooth and neat, meaning the foot was not severed by a sharp object, but appeared to have been gnawed off by something, which also explained why the body was missing.
Was the perpetrator... some kind of beast?
Ma Lu temporarily suppressed the doubts in his heart, put the foot aside, and turned his attention back to the shoe.
He noticed there were two small buttons on the side, the size of a button, one in front and one behind. Ma Lu pressed the one at the back and saw the red slash at the bottom change from one line to two, although the shoe itself seemed unchanged.
So he pressed it again, and in the next moment, he felt a pulling force; the shoe was yanked out of his hand by some invisible power and slapped onto the nearby wall.
Ma Lu tried but couldn't pull it off.
Only when he stepped on the wall with both feet and used both hands to exert force, could he lift the shoe off again.
So, was the purpose of that button to increase the suction force?
To confirm his guess, Ma Lu pressed the button at the front, and sure enough, the red slash changed from three stripes back to two, and the pulling force in his hand weakened significantly.
Ma Lu tried reducing it to one red stripe, and the suction force immediately became much weaker.
In addition, he found that by continuously pressing the front button, he could change the shoe's red stripes to blue ones, at which point the sole provided not a suction force but a repulsion force instead.
Similarly, the blue stripes also had three settings, with the repulsion force ranging from weak to strong.
This was a great item.
Ma Lu's eyes immediately lit up.
Moving in a weightless state wasn't like on Earth; although gravity was weaker, allowing one to jump higher and move further, it was still necessary to find a way to leverage forces.
Previously in the corridor, he had been moving by holding onto the handrails. With this shoe providing suction, he could finally walk on the ground.
Additionally, if he encountered danger, he could adjust the suction force to repulsion force, accelerating his escape.
Ma Lu immediately took off one of his sneakers and put on this newly acquired shoe.
The shoe size was two sizes larger than what he usually wore, but it wasn't a big problem.
Ma Lu returned to the point of origin, picked an ear from the corpse dressed in a Rabbit mascot costume, tore it off, and stuffed it into the gap.
To make the shoe fit better and not fall off easily.
Unfortunately, there was only one shoe; even after searching the nearby area, Ma Lu did not find the second shoe and could only continue on with one deep step and one shallow step.
Along the way, he passed several rooms, most of them with doors wide open, but no one inside.
And just like the corridor, every room was a mess.
It looked as if they had been through battles.
This only added to Ma Lu's deepening confusion: what exactly was this place?
What do you think?
