Chapter 19 - A Trip
Chapter 19: A Trip
After breaking up with Yu Fei, Ding Dian happily returned home—but not to her own place. She went straight to Yang Yu’s apartment. Only after an intimate night with him did she slip back to her own home.
The next day, Meng Yun and Yu Fei kicked off their golden era of bachelorhood. At a nightclub, Yu Fei invited a group of cute girls and partied hard.
Unbeknownst to them, Yang Yu had arranged for someone to capture everything on camera. He then sent the photos to Ding Dian.
Meanwhile, Ding Dian and Lin Jia sat at home, listlessly eating instant noodles that Lin Jia had overcooked.
Ding Dian scrolled through the carefully selected images—most of them showing Meng Yun dancing, drinking, and getting cozy with various women.
Suppressing her amusement, she put on an angry expression and handed the phone to Lin Jia.
“Look at this! We’re sitting here heartbroken, and he’s out having the time of his life!” she huffed.
Lin Jia took the phone. The moment she saw the intimate photos of Meng Yun with other women, her eyes turned red. A wave of deep sadness washed over her.
Seeing her devastated expression, Ding Dian felt secretly satisfied but outwardly consoled her friend.
Over the next few days, more and more pictures of Meng Yun partying with different women arrived.
Lin Jia’s emotions went from heartbreak to disappointment, then to anger, and finally, numbness.
She was completely disillusioned with Meng Yun.
Lately, she had been absentminded at work, making frequent mistakes. Her boss finally gave her an extended leave.
Noticing Lin Jia’s fragile state, Ding Dian knew it was time to move on to the next step.
“If they can enjoy themselves, why can’t we find some fun too?” Ding Dian suggested.
“I was actually thinking of taking a trip to clear my head. Why don’t you come with me?” Lin Jia replied, dodging the suggestion.
“I can’t leave. Ke’er is going back to her hometown in a few days, and I’ll be the only one running the shop,” Ding Dian explained.
“Then I’ll go by myself. But while I’m gone, don’t do anything reckless,” Lin Jia warned.
“I can’t let you travel alone, not in your current state,” Ding Dian objected.
“But you won’t come with me either,” Lin Jia sighed. “You know I spent all these years focused on Meng Yun. You’re my only friend.”
A pang of regret hit her. She had invested everything into her relationship, only to realize now that she had no one else.
Ding Dian sensed her opening.
“How about I find you a handsome guy to accompany you?” she teased with a grin.
Lin Jia smirked. “If he’s so handsome, why don’t you keep him for yourself?”
“I’m serious! It’s that rich guy from across the hall. What do you think?”
Lin Jia frowned. “Isn’t he chasing after you? So now you’re just handing him over to me?”
“If he were after me, I’d have jumped him already,” Ding Dian lied smoothly.
Lin Jia gave her a skeptical look.
Ding Dian continued, “Alright, I’ll tell you the truth. He’s not interested in me. He approached me because he’s actually into you.”
Lin Jia was baffled. “That’s impossible. I’ve never even met him before.”
“But he’s seen you. Love at first sight! He found out we’re best friends and asked me for help,” Ding Dian said with a straight face.
Lin Jia was still doubtful. “Then why didn’t you tell me before?”
“You and Meng Yun were so in love. As your best friend, how could I help another man pursue you? But things are different now. Meng Yun doesn’t deserve you anymore. You should give someone else a chance—you deserve that much,” Ding Dian pressed.
Lin Jia stayed silent.
Sensing hesitation, Ding Dian pushed further. “If you go on this trip with another man and Meng Yun doesn’t even react, then you should really give up on him. Besides, Yang Yu is a great guy. Just get to know him. If you like him, great. If not, no pressure.”
Hearing Meng Yun’s name again reignited Lin Jia’s anger. Remembering everything he had done recently, she made a rash decision.
“Fine,” she agreed.
Ding Dian quickly called Yang Yu, making a show of it. “I have a mission for you—take my girl Lin Jia on a trip. If she’s not happy, you’ll answer to me!”
What Lin Jia didn’t know was that Ding Dian had already been on the phone with Yang Yu the whole time. He had heard everything.
Still, he played along, his voice booming with excitement. “Mission accepted! Thank you, Lin Jia, for giving me this chance!”
Ding Dian had the call on speaker, and Lin Jia, hearing Yang Yu’s enthusiasm, felt her cheeks heat up.
Regret crept in almost instantly. Traveling alone with a man felt inappropriate. But she had already agreed, and backing out now would be embarrassing.
Just as she was hesitating, a loud knock echoed through the room.
Bang! Bang!
Right on cue—Yang Yu had arrived.
What do you think?
