Chapter 32: Desperate Sylvia
General POV:
Having suffered so much, Sylvia was getting back on track with her recent performance.
"Sylvia gave the wrong answer. Shivani’s answer is the right one."
But the flimsy wall of confidence she had constructed was shattered by these words, which came at her like a bolt of lightning.
The words left Sylvia in an indescribable state of shock.
She walked back to her seat as though in a trance and in denial of reality.
Unfortunately, it was only the beginning of her fall.
At that moment, when she was halfway up the stairs, she heard that familiar voice.
A voice she had been longing to hear—comfort her.
"Great job, Shivani."
"Better luck next time, Sylvia."
Adrian’s words, which came from a little way away, were undoubtedly comforting to her.
But they came to her later, not right away.
Instead of comforting Sylvia, Adrian first congratulated Shivani, a bitch who just yesterday became his friend.
Chaos broke out inside Sylvia’s mind, and her heart sank like never before.
’Why?’
’Why her and not me?’
Sylvia desperately wanted to scream, but she knew she couldn’t.
Although she found it the hard way, Sylvia knew the world wasn’t her parents backyard.
It was harsh, but it was the truth.
The sight of Shivani receiving a pat on the head that Sylvia felt was rightfully hers set her heart on fire.
Like acid was flowing in it instead of blood.
Hurt, she was forced to acknowledge that her place had been lowered in Adrian’s heart.
’I... Pushed down?’
’Why?’
’What happened?’
Sadly, Sylvia didn’t know.
....
Time passed, and class continued.
With Adrian’s constant interference, and her own anxious mind, Sylvia’s performance continued to deteriorate.
She was back to her loser self, where she couldn’t even answer a single question.
The other Players’ surprise looks, which were filled with jealousy, were now once again mocking her.
"That’s it for today, see you all tomorrow."
When class was over, Sylvia felt like her world was ending.
Having everything taken away from her, she felt like a lonely, destitute soul.
’Why was it like this?’
This time, Sylvia seemed to know why.
"So, why weren’t you focusing in class?"
"Hehe, because it was boring, I almost fell asleep."
That whore, Shivani, and Adrian were in front of her, walking and chatting.
The class was over, and everyone was going back.
And Sylvia, who had no choice but to follow, was one step behind those two, watching them helplessly.
She could not accept this situation.
’That is my place... by his side.’
Sylvia desperately wanted to scream and let Adrian know everything that was on her mind.
However, she lacked the courage to even approach him.
Adrian was her benefactor, her support, and had done a lot for her.
But he was an adult with his own life.
Who was she to tell him what to do?
’Aren’t you my friend?’
His words echoed in Sylvia’s head, but then a self depreciating laugh escaped her mouth.
’Friend?’
At the time, Sylvia thought how sweet and lovely this word was.
But looking at Shivani, another of Adrian’s friends, Sylvia understood that the term "friend" didn’t imply the exclusivity she had assumed.
Regardless, Sylvia couldn’t blame Adrian because she knew it wasn’t his fault.
It was entirely that bitch’s fault for seducing him and taking him away from her.
When everyone turned away, the only person who looked for her, cared for her, supported her and helped her was now taken away from her.
And because he wasn’t around anymore, nothing was going right for Sylvia.
"Heh"
Suddenly, a sneer was heard from behind.
It was a familiar voice.
Sylvia broke out of her thoughts and stopped in her tracks.
Looking behind her, Sylvia noticed the three delinquent girls again.
There was a smug grin on their faces, taking pleasure in Sylvia’s suffering.
As if they had known this would happen for a long time.
"To think a loser bitch like you got delusional that the Young Master of Vaiself family would be interested in you."
The leader of the three girls openly ridiculed Sylvia.
And, as if in a tacit understanding, the girls behind her came in support of her one after another.
"Hey! Wasn’t this bitch acting all high and mighty these last two days? As if she knows everything?"
"Fuck! Wasn’t it all because of that Adrian who pitied her and helped her?"
"Come to think of it, now that he’s with another girl, isn’t this lowlife trash back to her usual self?"
Other Players heard this as well, and they all started laughing.
"HAHAHAHA..."
"We were fools to argue with Adrian, who is so nice for a lowlife like her."
Their laughter and unkind words flung to her like a dagger, piercing Sylvia’s heart with searing intensity.
As cruel as it was, Sylvia could not refute their claims, for deep down, she knew they were true.
She was just a girl from a middle class family, with a ’worthless’ Archmage Class, whose parents had thrown her out.
Nevertheless, Adrian still helped her, gave her a shelter to live in, food to eat, money to spend, and even became her support, helping her to stand back up.
It was because he was a kind person.
Unknowingly, Sylvia touched her new glasses.
’He even gave these.’
With his assistance, Sylvia was able to overcome her fears and achieve her full potential.
Under his care, Sylvia shone like a moon in the night sky, but she was so caught up in her own shine that she failed to notice that it was only a reflection of the light coming from him, who was like a sun.
’Wait!’
It was then that Sylvia suddenly remembered.
’Where’s Adrian?’
Panic shot through Sylvia’s veins as she turned around to look for Adrian and saw that he wasn’t there.
Her heart pounded, and the Players’ disdainful laughter seemed to grow louder, mocking her frailty.
Without Adrian, her lifeline, Sylvia felt like she was losing everything she had ever known or owned.
Ignoring the jeers around her, Sylvia rushed through the large hallway of the Magic Tower, desperate to catch up to Adrian.
The pain in her heart propelled her forward as she pushed her legs harder, tears rolling down her cheeks.
Thankfully, she eventually spotted him at the entrance to the portal that led back to New York City.
However, he wasn’t alone, he was with that bitch, Shivani.
Looking at them talking, Sylvia instinctively hid behind the corner and wiped her tears.
She then overheard Shivani asking Adrian.
"If you come with me, I will serve you the best food you have eaten and also give you a tour of Delhi, so are you coming?"
Hearing Shivani’s words, Sylvia felt her heart pound and a wave of fear and horror wash over her.
’No, don’t go.’
For some reason, Sylvia felt that if she allowed Adrian to leave today, she would lose him forever.
For the first time in her life, Sylvia experienced fear as the possibility of losing Adrian dawned on her.
It was a feeling of complete hopelessness that threatened to consume her.
Sylvia’s hands trembled as she clutched onto a nearby wall for support.
Her heart felt like it might burst out of her chest.
She couldn’t bear the thought of Adrian disappearing from her life forever, leaving her stranded in the darkness once again.
In order to keep him, she knew she had to take decisive action, and soon.
"Adrian! Wait!"
Subconsciously, Sylvia shouted and came out of the corner before Adrian could answer Shivani.
"Sylvia, what’s wrong? You don’t look good, do you?"
Even though Sylvia didn’t say anything, Adiran recognized her distress and looked at her with concern in his eyes.
Unlike others, he never mocked or looked down on her despite the difference in their status.
Without even trying to pry into her privacy, he understood her intentions and concerns when even her real mother couldn’t.
"I want to talk to you... Something very important, please... but not here... alone."
Despite having a cracked voice from emotions, Sylvia managed to get her point across without crying.
And, as she expected, Adrian didn’t let her down.
"Shivani, I will visit your place someday later."
When he saw Sylvia’s distress, he immediately nodded to her and turned down Shivani’s offer.
To this, Shivani grumbled a bit and went to another portal.
Then, left alone with Sylvia, Adrian looked at her as if asking what she wanted to talk about.
Nonetheless, Sylvia was far from at ease.
Her broken heart yearned to reclaim the place she once held in Adrian’s heart, and she was prepared to do whatever it took to make him look at her the way he used to.
"Adrian, just trust me, please, this once...Please."
Determined not to let this opportunity slip through her fingers, Sylvia begged, grabbed Adrian’s hands, and took him through the portal.
Sylvia’s hands trembled, but she was desperate.
Consequently, she continued to walk forward, stopped the taxi, and, begging Adrian all the way, brought him to her hotel room.
There, as soon as she got in, she locked the door.
Now it was a do-or-die situation.
Gulp!
Fear of the unknown future gripped her heart again, and Sylvia unconsciously swallowed her saliva.
There was a chance that Adrian would end their relationship entirely if Sylvia carried out what she planned to do.
Sylvia didn’t know what his reactions would be, or what the future held for her, but she couldn’t let fear hold her back any longer.
She knew she had to be brave, both for herself and for the chance to win back Adrian’s affection.
Phew~!
With resolve burning like a fire in her soul, Sylvia took a deep breath, looked him in the eyes with resolve, and shouted.
"Adrian, I Love you! Please make me your woman!"

What do you think?
