CH.573 Crystalline Family
“You! You are the one with the Yugioh cards! Would you give me some!? Please!”
“... okay, but maybe later.” I answered the little crystal prince, because I didn’t want to say no, and I do have tournament cards I can give him.
But how does he know they are from Yugioh? I barely ever say that, and the cards don’t say Yugioh anywhere. And as I said, I don’t call them Yugioh cards, just ‘my cards’ or something like that.
So how does this kid know that they are Yugioh cards, when he’s probably never even seen one?
I would say from my tournaments, but how in the world would someone from the Empire hear about them? I’ve never advertised them anywhere in the Empire. Sure it could be espionage, but just hearing ‘Yugioh tournament’ shouldn’t tell anyone anything.
So again, how does he know and what does he know?
“Hiro.” The Emperor said. He didn’t yell or even speak loudly, but his voice was clearly authoritative. I suppose that is to be expected of an Emperor.
The crystal kid, Hiro I’m guessing, quickly looked at his father, realized what he was doing and got off of me.
“I apologize.” He said, as he bowed. “I was out of line. Please forgive me.” He then raised his head so that he could make eye contact.
Well, he is a good kid, so why would I blame him? I can understand getting excited.
“Don’t worry. It is fine.” I told Hiro.
“Thanks.” Hiro said, with a grin forming on his face. I felt like he was about to say something else, but he seemingly remembered his father being in the room, so instead of saying anything, he retreated to stand next to his father.
The father then whispered something into Hiro’s ear, which we probably weren’t meant to hear, but because of my level and skills, I clearly heard him telling Hiro to ‘Behave while the Prince is here’.
He then looked at us and spoke up.
“Thank you for coming. I hope the trip wasn’t too long.”
“No, it was quite pleasant.” Elias answered, as he stood up. “Thank you for inviting us.” He said with a bow.
I was also about to get up, but Janina took a hold of my wrist and made sure I stayed seated, and I just did as she wanted.
“Yes. I heard you arrived by airship. And a new model at that. May I ask about it?” The Emperor asked.
“... it's a spaceship ...” I heard Hiro muttering.
“Yes. An experimental model.” Elias answered with a lie, without it showing on his face.
“I see. A shame you didn’t let us see how it works. Sir Wood must have an Inventory to store an entire airship.”
“Storage, but that is a minor difference.” I cut in. It doesn’t really matter, but since Janina clearly wants to me stand my ground, despite the fact that I’m sitting, I’ll flex a bit. But the kid clearly knows about Yugioh and the Emperor is seemingly trying to keep me happy, so I don’t think I need to do too much.
“And as much as I do like to share information, I’d rather not show you how an antimatter engine works. Not yet at least.” I added.
The antimatter part was a trap for Hiro, and judging by his response, he clearly fell for it.
“Antimatter?! You can make that?!” Hiro called out.
“Hiro!” The Emperor raised his voice. “Not the time.”
“Bu … Sorry, Father. It won’t happen again.” Hiro responded, as he put his head down. I then saw the crystals that made his face shift, as he seemingly sealed his own mouth shut.
And that little outburst just confirmed my suspicions. Hiro is someone like me. Someone who has memories of a different world. And a world very similar to my own, if not the exact same.
“I do apologize for my child. This is his first meeting with someone not of the Empire.”
“It is fine.” I answered before Elias could. “I can understand getting excited when meeting someone you want to get to know.”
I then used Telekinesis to take a gentle hold of Elias, and guided him back to a sitting position with it.
The Emperor and Hiro then sat opposite us.@@novelbin@@
“Shall we get to business. I am Zirian Crystalline.” The Emperor introduced himself.
“Hiro Crystalline.” Hiro said, after unsealing his mouth.
“Elias Ruiso.”
“Brian Wood.”
“Ami Janina.”
As Janina introduced herself, I noticed Zirian’s eyes twitch and his central core sent out a pulse of mana that ran through his body. It almost looked like he went on the defensive and used that pulse of mana to reinforce his body.
He took a second to gather himself, before thanking us for the services we’ve done in their country, before asking about the fissures. I gave him the standard miasma blob explanation.
After a bit more speaking about nothing important, Zirian told Janina and I that he had some country to county talks he wanted to have with just Elias, and asked us if we would be willing to entertain Hiro.
I wanted to talk to Hiro anyway, so I agreed to the suggestion, and the three of us left the room.
Once outside, Hiro asked us to follow him, and we just followed. As did Ria and a handful of the Empire’s Royal Knights, who had been standing guard outside.
“So you have a real maid? Where did you get one? Are maid dresses common in the Kingdoms?” Hiro asked, as he led us somewhere.
“Designed it myself. I’ve been trying to introduce them as they look nicer than the common servant outfits, but only few places use them for now.” I answered the first part. “And Ria is my slave, though it is a temporary contract. She is a bit over a year in of her two year service.”
“So a debt slave? That doesn’t make any sense. What did she destroy for her to be turned into a debt slave?”
“Nothing? She agreed to be my slave because I could cure her blood curse. Dhampir things. I can explain in more detail if you want.”
“Oh? She doesn’t look like a dhampir. I thought she was a dragon that was captured or something. Though I suppose she doesn’t have enough scales.”
“Draconic Dhampir. Result of a dragon scale blessing.” I explained by not really explaining.
“Ah! Of course! I really wanted to have one of them, but dragons don’t do it for money.”
“Gold might be beautiful, but no dragon would give away a blessed part of themselves for just money.” Janina said. “Well, perhaps some dragons would, but most won’t. And the blessing from those young enough to sell themselves for money won’t give the results you want.”
“... That’s too bad. … Miss Dragon, perhaps you could recommend a dragon that would bless me?”
“No. I shall not force my kin to do what they don’t wish. Earn the blessing yourself.”
Okay! I’ll visit the Dragon’s Coast when Father gives me permission. If he doesn’t, I’ll just sneak out.”
“... you do realize the trip will take like … a few months on foot.” I pointed out.
“Oh. … I’ll figure something out.” Hiro declared.
Hiro guided us to a large open chamber that was probably some sort of magic practice room, considering the burn marks left on the floor and walls, the uneven ground that looks like it is that way because of Earth Magic, and the handful of dummies that seem to have sensors in them. He then ordered the guards that followed us to go into the observation room.
Admittedly, I was a bit surprised by the fact that they just left us with a Prince, but maybe they don’t have a choice or something?
“Okay Brian. … Can I call you Brian?” Hiro asked, but before I could even answer, he repeated. “Oh! May I call you Brian? Or do you have a different name you prefer? You may call me Hiro.”
“Brian is fine.” I naturally allowed him to call me that.
“Thanks. My old name was Togawa Shunsuke if you were wondering. May I know yours?” Hiro asked. “Oh, the guards can’t hear us. Does your slave know? What about Lady Dragon?”
“Yeah they both know. And my name has always been Brian Wood.” I answered him.
“... so you didn’t reincarnate, but instead just … isekaied here?”
“Pretty much yeah. No Gods, no nothing. Just me opening the front door of my apartment and next thing I know I’m in a random dungeon.”
“Okay. Well I died of cancer. … it wasn’t fun, but the a God reincarnated me. They either allowed a cheat skill or a cheat race, and since I died of cancer, I didn’t want to get sick again, so I took the race. I still got Inventory, Appraisal and Language Comprehension complete, but no Unique Skills for me.”
“Well, maybe a worthy trade. Those are nice extra skills. And Language Comprehension is amazing. I just had humanoid, but I’ve gained beast and draconic later.”
“And your Yugioh skill, right? You must have gotten that when you did the world transfer?”
“Yeah… Actually, I think I got Pack Opener for eliminating a rogue dungeon, so maybe not? And even Language Comprehension came later. … though it isn’t a skill that you can just get by a level up, so maybe there was some strange energy left over from the world transfer that caused both of them to appear.” I theorized.
I didn’t often think back to my first day in this world. It was so chaotic with everything going on. I just accepted it as the start of my journey.
“Quick question. The God you met. What did they look like?” I asked.
“Well not like The Goddess. They were a boy, not much older than I am. Kind of looked like that anime God from No Game No Life, but with black hair and red eyes.”
“Yeah, makes sense. I’ve talked with the Goddess a few times, and she doesn’t seem like a being with the power needed for travel between worlds. … Maybe I should call them something else, like realities.”
“Why?” Hiro asked.
“Well, Janina can already traverse neighboring worlds. Like she can visit the spirit world whenever she wants, basically. There are also sub-worlds to this world, like Storage and Inventory worlds, and mental worlds. I can show you, if you want.”
“Really? Then … NO! I want to see the Yugioh cards first! Summon something!”
“Okay. Any requests?”
“... you definitely have Blue-Eyes and Exodia. I’ve heard you have them. But they are too large.” Hiro muttered. “Dark Magician Girl could be fun, but I’m still a kid. So maybe a Hero monster? Yes. Can you summon an Elemental Hero? Any will do!”
“That’s fine.” I agreed. I quickly searched my Collection for my E-Heroes, and quickly realized that I have a fusion E-Hero that I haven’t yet summoned.
So I got out a Poly and the fusion materials, and summoned out Elemental HERO Absolute Zero.
“That’s so Cool!!” Hiro yelled. “You can actually fusion summon and everything!”
“Yeah, it is pretty cool.” I admitted.
“Can anyone do it? Can you just hand out your cards? Do you need a duel disk for it? Did you make your duel disk? Does Lady Dragon and the maid have their own duel disks?” Hiro rapid fired questions at me.
“Yes, but also no. Yes. No. No, but I have made duel disks. Ria has her own duel disk, but Janina doesn’t.” I answered.
“Still so cool. I want one. May I have one?”
“I could lie and say I don’t carry them with me, but I do have a few. I’ll let you wear it, but I want it back later.” I told him, as I got one of the generic GX style duel disks out of Storage.
As I said, I have a few of them. Three in each color, red, yellow and blue. Naturally I handed Hiro an Obelisk blue one.
He fitted the duel disk around his arm, but because he was still a kid, it was a bit large for him. Not to the point where it broke his balance, but it did look a bit silly.
“Okay. Now I just change my clothes a bit.” Hiro muttered, as his outfit changed, and soon enough, he looked like a bad Kaiba cosplayer. Though admittedly the ‘bad’ part is because all of his ‘clothes’ are made of light-blue crystal, so he lacks the colors.
“Not bad.” I complimented him, because I wasn’t going to be that guy.
“Now I just need a dragon. … or like Vorse Raider or something.”
“... I don’t have Vorse Raider.” I admitted after checking my Collection. “Must be in some tin or duelist pack I haven’t unlocked yet. But I do have Battle Ox. That should suffice.” I told Hiro as I brought one out. Without a sleeve, naturally.
“Oh? It's in Japanese. Didn’t expect that.”
“Yeah. If you don’t have Card Summoner, they are in Japanese. But shouldn’t be a problem for you, right?”
“Nope! … wait, you can’t read Japanese, can you?”
“Just a bit nowadays, and that is because I studied it for enchanting. But realistically, no.”
“You can enchant in Japanese? I didn’t know that!”
“Yeah, you can. In the spirit language as well. It is actually more efficient to enchant in Japanese, as it takes less space than the common language, so you can fit more enchantments into a weapon that way.”
“Cool.” Hiro said, as he placed the Battle Ox card onto his duel disk. “Nothing happened. Do I like press a button or something?”
“Just call out its name. You heard me summoning Absolute Zero.”
“Okay. Battle Ox!” Hiro called out to summon his monster.
The two of us kept talking about random things, with Ria and Janina just awkwardly standing in the corner, until the guards came in and told us to head for the dining hall for lunch.
Hiro was a bit afraid of me unsummoning Absolute Zero, as he assumed Absolute Zero’s effect would cause problems. But I assured him that my monsters can, most of the time, control if they activate their effects. Even effects that are mandatory in the card game.
Hiro was a bit sad that his card disintegrated, but there was nothing I could do about that.
And yes, he did return the duel disk to me.
What do you think?
