CH.574 Gaining Favor in the Empire

CH.574 Gaining Favor in the Empire

During lunch, I learned a bit about what the Emperor and Elias talked about. It was mostly just re-signing some pacts. I didn’t care so I didn’t ask.

The topic of the miasma blobs was then again brought up.  It was mainly the Emperor asking what they could do to deal with them.

I said, as I already did earlier, that currently only I can deal with the miasma blob itself, but that things can be done to make it easier.

Mainly things like the early warning system I installed with the mana flowers. Despite the fact that we’ve not needed them once, since the Goddess and the System Agents always warned me before my own warning system.

Yes my system will pick it up, but only after the fissure bursts open and sends out the first huge pulse of mana and miasma.

The Emperor asked if I would be willing to set up that same system in the Empire as well. I naturally agreed to it, but under the condition that I get to also cure the blood curse of every dhampir living in the Empire. And that the Empire would help me in that endeavor, by getting me a list of where the dhampirs live.

The Emperor more than agreed with my suggestion, giving me his full support.

“I will also prepare the Emperor’s sign for you.” The Emperor promised. “With it, you can ensure perfect placement of these warning devices.”

“Thank you.” I quickly thanked him, and then I realized I hadn’t given my gift yet, so I brought it out of Storage. “In return, I would like to give you this.” I said as I levitated the star-shaped magic stone towards the Emperor using Telekinesis. “It is a star crystal. Technically speaking it is a stardust magic stone, but I named them star crystals, and since they were unnamed, the System accepted star crystal as their true name.”

Yeah. As I was thinking of what to make, I knew I wanted to make something unique, but at the same time something you can’t really use as a weapon.

And as I was playing around with ideas, I decided to try if magic stones can be used with different variants of mana. Specifically stardust in this case.

And turning a monster core into a magic stone using stardust resulted in a clear crystal-like magic stone. The star shape is just because of how we did the compression. They are usually just round, but I decided this one would be star shaped because it looks more interesting. The star shaped stone is also slightly weaker than the circular ones, so it isn’t that big of a deal in terms of security.

Sure you could still use a star shaped star crystal for mass destruction. Especially if you know how to use Celestial-type magic. You know, the magic that is fueled by stardust. Because a magic staff with a star crystal embedded into it boosts the power of all Celestial magic by 10 times or so, depending on some other attributes of the staff.

So the crystal is very valuable, but no one in this world knows about Celestial-type magic, so it isn’t a problem.

After lunch, Hiro wanted to see my early warning device. So I agreed to set up both it and mana flowers as well.@@novelbin@@

For that, I met the Empress, who was another Crystal person. She was made of the same light-blue crystal as the two males, but her clothes were more of a turquoise crystal. It is interesting as with the males, they just have their clothing be the same color as their … flesh? Their body material. So maybe she just trained to be able to produce a different colored crystal?

Well, whatever.

As I was installing the different pieces needed for the mana flower bed, I explained them to Hiro. He seemed to understand most of them. I wonder how old he was when he died? I just assumed he was a kid, since he acts quite childish, but maybe he was a high school student or something?

“Wait? Communication network? You’ve made phones?” Hiro asked.

“Yeah, sure have. Want one?” I asked. I was going to give him or the Emperor a phone anyway, assuming that they’d let me set this stuff up, so I don’t mind giving it to Hiro beforehand.

“Of course I want one!”

“Alright.” I said, as I got a custom flip phone out of Storage.

It was made of a clear crystal, because I think the Crystal Emperor should have a crystal phone, so you could see everything inside the phone. It was quite cool, but I won’t be making many of them. They are a bit too custom for mass production.

“... It's a flip phone. Really? Don’t you have smartphones?” Hiro asked.

“Sure do, but they don’t have anything that ‘smart’ about them yet. They are just a phone with a large touch screen. Also, I’m not just going to give them away. Got to make money somehow. So I give away the flip and sliding phones, while the smartphones you’ll have to purchase.” I told him, as I was finishing the wiring.

“... Well, I suppose there is no Internet, so …”

“Already working on it. Just taking a while. I need more mana stones and a better connection between them and my Storage before I can fully implement it. You don’t want to live with dial-up speeds, do you?”

“... I don’t even know what that is, so probably not.” Hiro admitted.

“Honestly, good for you. I didn’t have to suffer with it for long, but any time is too long.”

“... so how much for a smartphone?” Hiro asked.

“They aren’t for sale yet. I’m not sure of what the final version of the Internet, or more like the launch version of the Internet, will look like. So I don’t want to sell smartphones that might not be compatible with the final product.” I explained. “And that phone can call, send text messages and even transmit your location. Isn’t that enough for now?”

“... I suppose. Does it have games?”

“... I’m not sure that model does, but I have my own version of snake and brick breaker. I can get them on your phone if you want.”

“I guess that is better than nothing.”

As I was teaching the gardeners on how to take care of the mana flowers, someone new literally flew in. … oh? You want a reminder on the flowers? They aren’t difficult. You just water them daily, and twice a week give them some extra nutrients. You can either mix the nutrients yourself from decently common stuff, or you can buy the stuff from HomeBase and Lawrence or Chloe will deliver it.

But to the new person. She was another Crystal person, and yes, she looked feminine. Really lean body structure, and she had turned some of her crystals into an outfit that resembled a long jacket, some sort of skintight pants, and goggles.

An aviator jacket and goggles, huh? For some reason, I have a feeling Hiro had something to do with that outfit.

She flew using wings made of the same crystal as her body. I assumed that the Crystal people could do that, but I honestly wasn’t sure until I saw her fly in.

She was older than Hiro, but still a child. Out of her five red crystal cores, four seemed fully developed and the fifth one was almost there. So she is probably 13 or 14.

I continued my briefing about the flowers as the crystal girl talked to her mother. I may or may not have listened in, as the girl reported about a minor problem in section nine.

I didn’t know they had split the city into sections. But that isn’t for me to know, unless they tell me about it. Or if they program a device I’ve made to know that later. Then I’ll get the info anyway, because fuck privacy. If you use my Internet, I’ll know everything you do.

… okay, maybe I can give some privacy. But Tahlia will still record everything. So if I need to know something, I’ll hopefully be able to.

Also, the situation in ‘section nine’ was someone starting a fire with Fire Magic, if what I overheard is correct.

After reporting, the girl came closer so she could listen to the end of my explanation on the flowers and the devices attached to them.

“... so he is the one Hiro wanted to see. He does feel strong.” I heard her say.

“Super strong.” Hiro said. “I can’t even Appraise him because his level is so high.”

“You are just weak.” The girl said.

“Hey! It isn’t my fault they don’t let me in the dungeons yet. I can’t level up outside. My skills are actually really high level.” Hiro said, though based on the sound of his voice, it seems like this is an argument the two have had multiple times already.

And no. I’m not about to let out the fact that I can level people up without combat.

“Brian, this is my sister, Saffee.” Hiro introduced the crystal girl.

“Yes. A pleasure.” Saffee said. “Saffee Crystalline.”

“The pleasure is all mine.” I responded. “Brian Wood.”

Saffee then just straight up asked: “So what level are you?”

“240.” I answered.

“What!?” Saffee yelled.

“Oh sorry. I was wrong.” I quickly realized my error.

“Of course you were.” She assumed I lied to make it sound larger than it actually was.

“Yeah. My level is actually 241.” I corrected myself.

“... no wonder I can’t appraise you.” Hiro muttered.

“What did you do to get to that level?” Saffee asked. “Did you level a city?”

“Nope. Just your usual level up methods, and maybe some of my own secret methods.”

“... Is getting Limit Break difficult?” She asked.

“I mean … kind of. You do need to take on a powerful monster for it. An S-rank works, but I’m not sure if an A-rank is enough. Maybe if you go solo? Because two people taking on an SS-rank was enough for both of them to get Limit Break.” I explained.

“... you know people like that?” She asked.

“Sure do.”

“How did you get your Limit Break?” Hiro asked.

“Took down a six headed hydra.” I answered.

“Wow…” She muttered.

“That is so cool. Wish I could have seen it.” Hiro added.

“I can show you, if you want.” I told them.

“Really!?” Hiro called out. “Did you record it or something?”

“Yes, but not like you are thinking.” I responded. “Mental Visual Designing, open.” I said to open up a System screen. I then had Laura give some instructions to Tahlia, so she could live edit my memories, just so Hiro and Saffee wouldn’t realize that I took down the hydra in a dungeon. I didn’t want them to ask questions about it.

I then played the edited recording of my monsters taking on the hydra, culminating in the summoning of Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon and the annihilation of the hydra.

“You get experience for monsters your … monsters kill?” Hiro asked.

“Sure do.” I confirmed.

“That’s so cheaty!” He complained. “Why can’t I do that?”

“Learn regular summoning magic.” I told him.

“... how difficult would it be to get a summoning contract with a dragon?” Saffee pondered.

“Easier than I expected, but that might be just me.” I told her.

“Can you use summoning magic as well?” Hiro asked.

“Sure can, but I don’t have many contracts. Just two, actually.”

“And knowing you they are crazy strong.” Hiro said. “Actually, I heard you summoned a Fenrir. Was that ..?”

“A summoning contract monster, yes. And I have an S-rank ice dragon I can summon.”

“What can’t you do?” He asked.

“Use attribute magic.” I answered. “Because of the way my magic circuits formed, I can’t use attribute magic at all. I can use it through Spirit Magic, but not directly.”

“Well, at least that is a limit.” Hiro said. “But you really are too much of an isekai cheat protagonist.”

“And there he goes with that stuff again…” I heard Saffee mutter.
