Chapter 245 The Bandits Are Gone, the Loot Is Collected… But Now There's a Bigger Battle at Home!
The group of guards moved swiftly, making their way toward the Pyrolf territory.
The sun hung high, making the desert even more unbearable as they finally arrived at their destination.
But the moment they saw it, they all froze. There was nothing. No Pyrolfs. No Alpha. Not even a single trace of anything.
The entire area was barren, except for scorched marks on the ground, as if something had burned away everything.
One of the guards stepped forward, shielding his eyes from the glaring sun. "This… doesn't make any damn sense."
Another knelt down, running his fingers through the ash-covered sand, confused.
"We saw the lights from here, right? That means there should be something left. But… there's nothing. Not even corpses."
A younger soldier scanned the area. "The Pyrolfs lived here. Even if they lost a fight, there would be traces. Bones, blood, or something!"
He kicked the ground in frustration, sending up a small cloud of dust.
Another guard wiped sweat off his forehead, shaking his head.
"It's too damn hot here. Like something burned everything into nothing."
The lead guard remained silent, his arms crossed as he observed the unnatural emptiness.
"This wasn't a normal battle. Something or someone erased everything."
A more experienced soldier stepped up beside him. "Could it have been the bandits?"
The group tensed.
Everyone knew the bandits lurking in this zone were dangerous.
The lead guard turned to the man who spoke, his expression skeptical.
"The bandits are strong, but this? This is something else. They're not capable of wiping out an entire pack without leaving a trace."
One of the newer recruits swallowed hard. "But if it was them, what do we do? Are we going after them?"
The lead guard exhaled, shaking his head. "No. Even if they were involved, we were ordered not to engage them directly. If we run into them, we're as good as dead."
A tense silence filled the air. Then, a more senior guard finally broke it, rubbing his temples. "Damn it. This is giving me a headache. What do we report back? That the Pyrolfs just... vanished?"
The lead guard sighed, looking at the deserted wasteland one last time.
"We report exactly what we saw. Nothing. No Pyrolfs. No bandits. Just scorched land. The higher-ups will decide what to do with this information."
A few guards hesitated, still unsettled but finally, the lead guard gave a nod. "No point staying here. We fall back. Move out."
The group turned away and as they went back, one of them muttered under his breath. "Whatever did this… I hope we never have to meet it."
Another guard whispered back, voice barely audible. "I think it's already too late for that."
With a sense of unease hanging over them, the guards disappeared into the horizon.
---
Luna and Liora had arrived at the apartment. When they entered it, they found out that both Lucius and Loreia sat comfortably on the sofa, watching the TV.
Lucius saw them and immediately asked about the loot. "So, you got them?"
Luna grinned, tossing herself onto the couch opposite him. "Of course, Master. You doubt us?"
Liora, more composed, crossed her arms and nodded. "The hunt was successful. No issues."
Luna stretched lazily, cracking her neck. "Loxen, put it all out."
Loxen appeared from her shadow and began to pour dozens of beast cores and other items onto the table from his shadow.
The pile sparkled under the apartment lights, radiating energy from the concentrated power of the beast cores.
Lucius raised his eyebrow, smirking as he leaned forward. "Quite a lot, huh?"
He reached out, picking up a particularly large A-Rank beast core, twirling it between his fingers. "Not bad."
He set it down, glancing at them with a satisfied smirk. "Thanks for your work."
Luna grinned proudly, placing a hand on her hip. "Tch, Master, you should expect no less from us."
Liora simply nodded, her expression neutral but pleased.
Lucius leaned back, smirking. "With this, things are about to get a lot more interesting."
Before he could even continue his thoughts, Liora immediately turned around and walked straight toward the bathroom.
Luna's eyes widened before she quickly stepped in front of her. "Hey, hey! Wait a minute! Let me go first!"
Liora paused, raising her eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
Luna crossed her arms, standing her ground. "You heard me! I should go first!"

Liora exhaled through her nose, unimpressed. "Why? I was the one actually fighting the entire time. You just stood around, watching."
Luna gritted her teeth. "Hey, I was still part of the mission! I worked too! I mean, technically."
Liora rolled her eyes. "Technically? You're joking, right? You barely moved. I was the one tearing those bandits apart. I deserve the first bath."
Luna huffed. "Oh, come on! I also got sweaty! Do you think standing around watching you kill people is effortless?"
Lucius, still sitting on the couch, frowned deeply, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Just… what the hell happened to them? Where did my loyal and cool maids go?"
Loreia sighed dramatically, standing up and placing her hands on her hips. "Alright, enough! If you two keep bickering like children, I won't let either of you use the bath."@@novelbin@@
Liora and Luna immediately went silent, their eyes widening in surprise.
"W-Wait! Big sister, that's too much!" Luna protested.
Liora frowned, nodding. "Agreed. You wouldn't be that cruel… right?"
Loreia folded her arms, unimpressed. "Then stop acting ridiculous."
She turned to Liora, giving a small nod. "You take the bath first."
Liora nodded firmly, stepping past Luna with satisfaction. "Thank you, big sister."
Luna pouted, looking betrayed. "Tch… unfair."
Loreia glanced at Luna next. "And you... you'll go after her. In the meantime, fix your personality while you're at it."
Luna groaned, throwing her arms up. "Yeah, yeah, big sister. I got it. Geez."
As Liora disappeared into the bathroom, Luna flopped onto the couch, pouting.
Lucius exhaled heavily, shaking his head. "I swear, I don't recognize either of you anymore."
Loreia smirked, sitting back down beside him. "Welcome to my world, little brother."
Luna just rolled her eyes, waiting for her turn.
What do you think?
