Destroying My Own World

Chapter 338 Hard to distinguish.

Melissa brought Mykel to a used room to talk with him privately without any eyes or cameras. She still couldn't believe it and how he came to her like that which was quite terrifying. She wondered how many abilities he hadn't shown to the world, and who blessed him with such power.

"I have been nominated to become the Vice-president of the Verdentia Republic. I don't know if I should accept it or decline it because I'm afraid," Melissa looked at Mykel with a worried expression.

"What are you so afraid of about it?" Mykel asked. "Either you choose to accept it or not, you're going to sell out your people and nation. The only thing you need to think about is whether you will be treated as a traitor or a hero," he pointed out.

Melissa furrowed her eyebrows and was confused by what Mykel meant by that.

"Elestria would toss you away once she got everything under control, but that wouldn't be the case if you're going to be the bridge between her and your people," Mykel explained.

"You're trying to say you want me to go against Elestria's plan to conquer the world of front and support her behind everyone's back?" Melissa asked.@@novelbin@@

"False hope, the most believable deception. Make them believe you're on their side," Mykel answered with a smile. "It's not really a lie since you do care about your people, but you have to act like a deceiver in Elestria's eyes. After all, pretending to care and truly care are hard to distinguish from one to another when you do the first one convincingly and the other one sincerely," he continued.

As soon as Melissa heard Mykel's explanation, she had a chill down her spine. She had never seen someone who could be so evil, smart, cunning, and caring at the same time. The way he thought was amazingly terrifying.

"I told you back then, do what you must do. And remember that I'm not going to sacrifice innocent lives. Put your trust in me and watch," Mykel stood up and looked at his watch. "You got your answer and you already know what to do. Elestria might want to hear the good news, so I believe we will see each other very soon," he added.

Mykel left the room and Melissa immediately followed him but he disappeared. She couldn't find him in the hallway and believed he did have the ability to teleport from one place to another.

Melissa walked back into the meeting room and noticed everyone was so quiet. She didn't know what had happened until someone told her there was someone who had entered the rift on his own. She thought it was Mykel, but turned out it was someone else and the identity of that person was someone quite famous.

"Aston Willis?" Melissa furrowed her eyebrows since she didn't know who he was but somehow the name rang a bell. Your next read is at My Virtual Library Empire

"Six-time world champion of a mix martial arts. He hasn't lost a single fight and he has knocked out all his opponents throughout his career," A man explained. "He was a beast long before the invasion came, especially with how young he is. He has been living so quietly that we don't actually know what he has been up to. Who would have thought that he was Gifted," he continued.

Melissa called Zachary and told him to go to the rift immediately and check on Aston. There was nobody else who could do such a job but him, and so she sent him to avoid Aston from dying.

Zachary arrived and people had gathered when they heard about Aston entering the rift. His presence also made it more crowded and would bring more people to check what was happening.

He entered the rift and looked at the place he was in, a dark forest with a damp scent. He could see big centipedes as big as his arms crawling on the trees and he could see other venomous insects around him. The place itself was dangerous, and he hadn't even found a monster around him which only made him worried about Aston.

As he walked deeper into the dark forest, he heard screeches from the distance. He immediately unsheathed his sword and ran to where the sounds were coming from. He then saw a man with only his gray rolled-sleeved shirt and trousers just kill a giant centipede with his bare hands.

Zachary approached Aston and saw how thick and sturdy the exoskeleton was. For a normal Gifted, it would be impossible even if they used a weapon, but Aston did it with his bare hands. It was enough to say that he was different, and perhaps a new strong Gifted had been chosen.

"I know you," Aston said as he wiped his hands and looked at Zachary. "I never have a person that I look up to, but you're a damn hero," he added.

"When did you receive a gift from the Gods?" Zachary asked as he looked around making sure there was no monster around.

"Last night," Aston answered. "I came here as soon as I met with the Gods that I need to clear this rift," he added.

First of all, it was shocking that Aston met with Gods that nobody had ever experienced before. Second, the fact that he was ordered to enter the rift to clear it made it feel like he was special compared to anyone. It didn't make Zachary jealous, in fact, it would be a heavy burden that would only weary him down.

"You know..." Aston paused as he fixed his black slick hair. "I'm not really a believer and I don't really believe in those Gods. I'm here not to satisfy them, but I came because I want to experience the struggle that everyone felt inside the rift," he continued.

"If that's the case, allow me to accompany you and watch you from the side," Zachary responded.

"That's assuring, and thank you for your understanding. I know you're something else," Aston cracked his knuckles and started hunting for monsters in the forest.

Zachary kept his distance and not even once was he worried about Aston the moment Aston could handle two and even three monsters at the same time. He remembered how skillful Aston was during his time as a martial artist, and now that he became a Gifted, it only made him even stronger.

"What do you think? We have come this far and we haven't seen any exit," Aston asked.

"We have been walking in a circle, and the forest is so vast that it might take days to find the exist. Or perhaps there's no exit and the demon lives here in the woods," Zachary answered after he observed the place.

"I see, in the end, an expert is still an expert," Aston scoffed as he approached Zachary. "I'm done here. I don't want to go any further since I didn't bring anything with me," he said.

Zachary nodded his head and led the way back to the rift since he tracked the path he took. It looked so easy because he used to be a ranger, an elite soldier who spent years in the unknown. He could explore the forest, cave, and island like they were the back of his hand with his survival skills.

When they came out, they saw dozens of Gifted gathering near the rift but the soldiers prevented them from going in. Those people saw those two standing in front of the rift and they asked what kind of world was inside the rift.

It surprised Zachary when Aston said that he was a part of the scouting team with Zachary. He looked confused and wondered what Aston was planning by telling that to the public.

"I almost forgot to mention this, but they wanted me to meet you. I don't know why, but I think I understand why they ordered me that. I'll be joining you from now on," Aston said amid the people asking him questions. "Please come see me in my place. I'll be waiting and I'll explain everything there," he added and walked through the crowd with zero care of his surroundings.

Zachary went back to inform Melissa about what he gathered from watching Aston. But when he came to see Melissa, all the congresses and the senates were throwing a party for her. He wondered what happened, but after he found out she was going to become the Vice-president of Verdentia Republic, he was happy for her.

Zachary decided to let Melissa have her moment and stood at the side, watching everyone congratulate her. It was a simple party with not even a single cake or drink because Melissa told them it was unnecessary and it wasn't the right time for that.

"Zach. You're back," Melissa stood in front of him and made sure he was fine.

"Yes, My Lady. Congratulations on your appointment as the Vice-president. I think it would be more appropriate if I call you Miss Vice-president from now on," Zachary responded and he was smiling with his eyes.

"Promise me that you keep treating me the same. I don't want you to distance yourself from me," Melissa said as she put her left hand on Zachary's upper arm. "I might need you even more from now on," she added.

Zachary nodded his head with understanding, and then he told Melissa about Aston.

"I see. Well then, let's go and meet him," Melissa said after she listened to everything and believed it would be a great addition.

"You're coming as well, My Lady?" Zachary asked with his eyebrows furrowed.

"Yes. When it comes to keeping the people of the nation at peace, I would offer him whatever he wants in exchange for helping us to protect this nation," Melissa answered with a serious expression.

"You want me to do that? Sure, no problem!" Aston said as he sat down in the living room after he listened to Melissa's offers as soon as she entered his mansion. "What do you want me to do?" he asked with a glass of wine in his hand.

Zachary was as shocked as Melissa who was sitting on the sofa as they looked at Aston. They never thought it would be that easy and how Aston didn't even need anything in return.
