Chapter 257 The strange rules on the abandoned outpost Part 3

"Look what you have done!" Charlie scolded the student as the creepy sound of footsteps became louder. It was obviously a cryptid trying to make its way towards them but it was impossible to tell what kind of cryptid it was.

At that moment, Uriel realized that something must have been interfering with his mystical sense because, usually, he would be able to at least tell whether there were any cryptids on the vicinity.

Charlie grabbed her rifle and pointed it towards the closed door that led to the watchtower, but contrary to her expectations, the cryptid broke through the ceiling and fell directly on top of her. As a heavenly rank, she was bound to be the first to be sensed by any cryptid.

She tried to dodge, but it was too late and she fell to the floor while trying to keep the monster from gnawing at her. It was a quadruped beast similar to a cross in between a rat and a bull, an eerie looking creature Uriel couldn't recognize but that didn't change the fact that he needed to dispatch it as soon as possible.

It took a couple of point blank shots from his magnum, but Uriel managed to kill it before any harm came to his professor. Charlie dropped the creature with a thudding sound right next to her and thanked Uriel profusely, though he couldn't be bothered to pay any attention towards her.

"Something is coming from outside." Uriel said right before a pack of the same creatures gathered in front of the entrance, fighting among them for the right to be the first one to enter.

They ran towards the door to the watchtower while Charlie fired her rifle at the cryptids with uncanny precision, but their thick skin allowed them to withstand a few shots before dying and they were too many to count.

Uriel placed his hand on the door handle out of instinct, but then he remembered the rule about not opening any doors and took it back. Although he stayed one night in that place, he wasn't that familiar with the building as he spent most of his time on the watchtower, because of that he didn't know where to run.

"Keep going and then turn left." Charlie commanded.

Uriel didn't know where was she leading them, but anything was better than staying and fighting so many enemies in such adverse circumstances. They needed to find a place to hold their ground, but that proved to be a challenge for them as most of the doors were closed.

"What is this place?"

"It's the armory, I'm about to run out of ammo." Charlie pushed them with one hand while firing the long rifle with a single hand like it was a handgun. Thanks to her heavenly rank she was able to aim accurately and didn't even have to worry about the recoil, but the fact that it took so many shots to kill a single creature was a huge disadvantage.

Uriel rushed in to grab whatever ammo he could find, but Liv slapped them out of his hands.

"What are you doing dumbass, she needs high caliber rounds!" Liv started rummaging through the crates and handed some ammunition to Charlie, who swiftly recharged her rifle and then kept going.

Charlie, Liv and Uriel fired their guns in a disorderly fashion, the blazing sound of the gunshots always followed by the clinging sound of the cases falling to the ground.

"This is pointless, their armor is too thick!" Uriel shouted.

"Aim at the eyes! It's always a weakspot." Charlie said as she fired a bullet that pierced one in the eye to set an example.

"It's easier said than done." Uriel failed over and over and his bullets bounced off the thick skull of the rat creatures. At that point, he realized he was just wasting his ammunition and stayed behind with the intention of fighting in close combat, but Charlie grabbed him by the collar and dragged him with one hand.

"You can't fight those things, they broke the alloy ceiling like i was made of butter. If they so much as graze you you'll lose a limb." Charlie warned, but that didn't worry him as much as the possibility of being surrounded by those creatures.

After a short while, they came back to the entrance where more and more of those creatures were trying to get inside.

"Shit! We ran in a circle!" Charlie shouted in frustration while still holding on to Uriel.

It was obvious that whoever laid the trap had the presence of those creatures in mind when setting the rules and they were in a clear disadvantage.

"Turn off your lamps!" Uriel shouted as soon as he realized the floor was wet.

"But that will leave us exposed!" Cried Liv.

"There's not time to argue." Said Uriel as he turned off his lamp.

When both women did the same, darkness overtook the place and the eyes of those cryptids were highlighted in red. Although frightening, it was the only thing that allowed Charlie to continue firing her weapon, but then a blue light erupted from behind.

"Jump as high as you can!" Said Uriel as he touched the ground holding Terry Pratchett's sword, Thunderbolt Iron. Sparks of electricity ran all over the wet floor like a spiderweb, hitting each and every single cryptid present and also Uriel himself.@@novelbin@@

He fell to the ground, smoke arising from his clothes.

"Sage!" Charlie said as she rushed to help him.

"I'm fine, I just need some rest."

"That was incredible!" Charlie held Uriel's face in between her arms, placing him in a comfortable position as the cryptids started vanishing.

"Where did you get that thing?" Liv asked with a voice that almost seemed angry, but Uriel didn't reply as he was being smothered by a grateful Charlie.

Uriel thought of activating Water warlock's blessing many times while running away from those creatures, but now that they were all dead he was glad he didn't as everytime he activated it he felt more distant to his own self.
