Chapter 42: Chapter 42 The First Mission of the Big Space User (2)

“Hmm? Where is this? Did we enter the Plane Channel?”

“Yes, we’re inside the Secret Realm now.”

“Wow, is the Secret Realm really a natural environment? I always thought it was a long channel like the literal meaning suggests. I’ve been curious about how you would fight in a channel since I was little.”

“Haha, you have quite an imagination. But it’s true that people initially thought like you, until they drove the enemies back into the Plane Channel and followed them in, only then did they realize it was actually like this.”

Ye Nai rolled down the car window and looked around, noticing that the light came from bright lamps around, not natural light.

She glanced at her phone. It had been just past 9 AM before entering, but now it was the previous night, past 9 PM.

...

“Time changed, today turned into yesterday, reversed by 12 hours. Is the time difference that big?”

“Yes, time inside the Secret Realm is exactly 12 hours behind the outside world; nothing else changes. There’s no consensus among scientists on why the time lag is so precise, but it’s pretty convenient for daily life.”

“I see. So, we’re traveling overnight?”

“Yes, this is the entry and exit point of the East Ridge City Secret Realm. We’ll continue on and rest at the next town.”

“Okay.”

The convoy moved on. Once outside the town, it was a dark night road, but fortunately, the highway was well-built, seemingly with no speed limit. They drove at high speed, seemingly flying down the road.”

In such speed, they barely made it to the planned rest town just after midnight.

Traveling with the military, the resting place was naturally within a military camp.

“Deputy Shen, should we start serving food?” Ye Nai asked as she unbuckled her seatbelt as soon as the car stopped.

“Yes, let’s assign rooms first and see what everyone wants to eat.”

In just over ten minutes, the efficient soldiers had their rooms assigned, and Deputy Shen, along with Ye Nai, asked each team member what they wanted to eat.

The food taken out from the Space, just as it was when packaged, was fresh food made in the cafeteria, still hot and steaming.

Everyone happily grabbed the food they wanted, appreciative of the good fortune on this mission.”

“Xiao Yezi, have you ever tested the longest preservation time of your Space?” Deputy Shen asked, stirring his bowl of noodles.”

“I haven’t specifically tested, but I once forgot a box of chilled, sliced fruits bought from the supermarket in my Space for a week; I thought it would have spoiled by the time I remembered, but it was still good, just as when I bought it. I ate it and didn’t get sick.”

Ye Nai also ate noodles, but hers were soup noodles. They were packed separately, and she only had to pour some hot soup into the noodles and stir, even simpler than instant noodles. There was no wait, she could eat it right away.”

“So, at least a week of preservation? Good, you’re indispensable for similar missions in the future.”

Ye Nai’s eyes crinkled up as she smiled, secure now in having steady work.”

Her Space’s preservation ability mattered so much on this mission, which was to gather resources from the Secret Realm, one could guess it probably had something to do with Mutant Beast Meat. What else in the Secret Realm needed such preservation?”

After finishing her noodles, taking a bath, she took out a portable fan, plugged it in, set it not to blow directly at anyone on low and oscillating, turned off the lights, and went to sleep.”

The room had central air conditioning, but the temperature couldn’t be adjusted. With four people in a room, it was somewhat hot, but with the fan on, the airflow made it much better.”

After a good night’s sleep, she was awoken by an alarm at 6 AM Secret Realm time, served food for everyone after washing up, and they departed promptly at 7 AM.”

The entire day was spent on the road, passing through one town after another, until finally arriving at the destination a little after 8 p.m.

As soon as Ye Nai got out of the car, Deputy Captain Shen handed her a pistol and a magazine.

She quickly clenched the items in her hand and looked around warily.

“Is it that dangerous here?”

“This place is considered the rear of the frontline area. The war team has to leave this line of towns to enter the frontline, and they must return here for supplies. As a result, mutant creatures could invade at any time and any place. You can’t even sleep peacefully, let alone lower your guard when going to the bathroom.”

“Understood.”

Ye Nai stored the magazine in her Space, held the gun in her left hand, and stealthily released superpower spores with her right hand.

Since this place was considered the frontline, it was the perfect place for her beloved Fungal Mycelium.

In her field of view, the released spores divided into multiple fine streams, spreading in all directions.

Ye Nai’s heart leapt with joy. The frontline truly did offer an abundance of prey.

They were staying in a military camp, and it was still early, with many people actively moving around outside. Ye Nai observed that they all had an aura of bloodshed, unsure whether they had just come down from the frontline to rest.

While rooms were being assigned, Ye Nai began to receive a continuous flow of warm energy, which made her feel as though she was immersed in a comfortable hot bath, almost causing her to moan aloud.

Ye Nai secretly bit her tongue to refocus on her duties. After the rooms were assigned, everybody was free to either get food from her or to find food in town on their own.

Having eaten several meals in the mess hall during the trip, nobody wanted to continue doing so. They dispersed instantly.

In the blink of an eye, not to mention Captain Mei, even Deputy Captain Shen, who had been traveling with her, was nowhere to be seen. Ye Nai also decided to head out to the streets.

She wanted to see the nightlife in the Secret Realm.

Of course, she carried the pistol with her. Although she didn’t have a gun license, there were different rules within the Secret Realm. She just hadn’t expected that they would give her a gun without any explanation.

She took out an electric scooter from her Space and rode from one end of town to the other. Many shops had signs indicating they were open all day; Ye Nai chose one for dinner before returning to the military camp to rest.

She was too timid to wander around.

The main reason was the increasing amount of energy she was receiving, indicating the continuous growth and reproduction of her spores into Fungal Mycelium. The mycelium then released new spores in an endless cycle, continually capturing new prey.

The live mutant plants and mutant beasts, being decomposed by the mycelium, would struggle, not simply allowing themselves to be consumed like the dead.

As they struggled, their disturbances could attract other predators.

These predators would then become new food for the mycelium.

So long as the Fungal Mycelium’s spread was expansive enough, any mutant creature entering it would become its nourishment.

Just like at the landfill deep within Hazard Zone 5, her Fungal Mycelium had already covered the entire area, and although it seemed like the Awakeners were cleaning up daily, in reality, her mycelium was tirelessly working day and night.

Otherwise, how would that giant mutant plant have been exposed that day?

It was with this thought that Ye Nai decided to return to sleep instead of wandering around aimlessly. If a mutant creature that hadn’t been caught by the mycelium’s extensive net sneaked into town, she, with her combat skills and small pistol, would be nothing but easy prey.

Before she even reached the entrance to the military camp, a piercing alarm sounded around her, followed by beams of bright searchlights appearing overhead, piercing through the night sky and sweeping toward the direction behind the military camp.
