Chapter 75: 75. Wavering_1
Sun Shouping also gave a wry smile, “Raise it, I can indeed afford to, and since it’s just reached adulthood, if I manage to breed it well, I can earn the money back.”
“It’s just that neither the person nor the dog can get over this hurdle. You see, after agreeing to terms, they became hesitant to part, lingering there for half a day already.”
Mature people had already known difficulties and backed down, like Zhang Yanping.
However, having raised all sorts of bizarre things on the back mountain, Song Tan began to feel an itch!
That is to say, she really loved such a fierce dog!
At this moment, she slowly asked,
“Then if… this dog could be a bit cheaper, I’d like to have it!”
Zhang Yanping stopped her, “The money you make in a day from selling vegetables is only enough to feed and water it!”
Sun Shouping was also startled and quickly refused,
“No, no, you can’t afford it, really can’t afford it!”
“And…” He looked at Song Tan and sighed, “In foreign countries, they use this kind of dog to hunt tigers. It’s not an exaggeration, usually it’s not aggressive, but if it does become fierce, you won’t be able to hold it back.”
Song Tan, however, smiled, “That’s not necessarily true.”
Sun Shouping truly hadn’t expected the girl to be so stubborn!
At this moment, he gave a bitter laugh, his words earnest, “Really, it’s not possible.”
“It’s not that I’m unwilling to part with this dog. I already have Kangal breeders here; one more or one less doesn’t matter to me.”
“But the problem is, you really won’t be able to handle it! This dog is too loyal; it doesn’t easily accept a new owner. Even if you take it back with you, at first it’s going to be stubborn and not listen to you. How will you raise it then?”
“What if something happens, you tell me…”
Sun Shouping was really sincere in his advice,
“If you really have the ability to take it away, its owner said, not a penny necessary, as long as you’re good to his dog, regularly send a video, or, if convenient, allow him to see the dog occasionally.”
If it were an ordinary girl, faced with such a request, there would be a lot to consider.
But the problem is Song Tan lives in the village, where there are plenty of mountains and fields, so if you want to come by, just do so; how could the whole village keep outsiders from doing so?
Not to mention, she’s not an ordinary girl.
Hearing this, she became even more enthusiastic, and set off walking outside,
“Then wait for me here, Sun Ge, I’m going to have a chat with its owner!”
She strode out the gate, and Sun Shouping breathed a sigh of relief: a chat is fine.
The owner wouldn’t agree.
Then, turning his head and recalling something, he asked Zhang Yanping,
“So your sister, her farm business must be doing pretty well, huh? Making a few thousand dollars a day just from selling vegetables? It’s hard work, indeed.”
Clearly, he remembered what Zhang Yanping had just said, that the money from selling vegetables was only enough to feed the dog.
Zhang Yanping thought of how everyone just went to the fields in the morning and picked a few handfuls of Milk Vetch, and could easily pocket two to three thousand…
At this moment, after remaining silent for a while, he finally replied with a complex expression, “Indeed, it’s quite tough.”
And at that moment,
Song Tan had already approached the off-road vehicle.
The man who had been smoking one cigarette after another was still standing there, and the large dog on the back seat of the car was also lying down in the same silent manner.
“Hello.”
Song Tan greeted, “My name is Song Tan.”
Then she gestured to the dog field behind her, “I came here today to buy a dog, and I heard from Sun Ge that you were looking to find an owner for the Kangal, right?”
She smiled, trying to appear friendly,
“So, what do you think about me?”
The man was taken aback, instinctively saying, “Oh, uh, my name’s Wang Zhen.”
He then came to his senses and shook his head,
“Young lady, don’t joke around. My big boy would run off, and you couldn’t hold him back even if you tried.”
Behind him, Kangal, hearing his name called, lifted his head. However, upon making eye contact with his owner, he whimpered and lay back down.
“You see,” Wang Zhen said with a hint of pity as he reached out to pet him:
“My dog hasn’t been eating well these past few days, he has lost some weight, but he still weighs over 130 pounds, much heavier than you. He could stand two heads taller than you.”
“It’s really not suitable.”
Song Tan wasn’t upset by the rejection; the more he refused, the more responsible she felt for the dog.
She thought for a moment and started to paint a grand picture, “Brother Wang, my home is in the countryside, with several mountains and countless fields.”
This was, to tell the truth, a bit of an exaggeration, rounding up the details.
“There are hardly any children in our village and few elderly folks. Most are well-behaved. I want Kangal because I like him, and also to have a deterrent.”
“Besides, I just got a few big dogs from Brother Sun, and they can play together. They’d have the freedom to run around half the mountain, far more than they would in normal places.”
The man’s gaze wavered.
Although he had built a villa in the country, it was still not the place he was familiar with. Walking the dog around the village could sometimes be lonely.
“As for food…”
Song Tan thought for a moment, “I’ll be honest, I can’t afford hundreds of pounds of meat a day. But thirty to fifty pounds is no problem, and I am sure I can take good care of Kangal.”
In fact, she planned to use Spiritual Energy and a predominantly vegetarian diet (she had no other choice, as money was tight) based on her previous experience of raising animals in the hills behind her home. She was certain she could keep the dog sleek, well-fed, and full of life.
She then made a further promise:
“If you’re worried, you can come by the village any time unannounced, and you should be able to see him.”
Big space, companionship, and the ability to visit anytime.
Wang Zhen’s heart couldn’t help but waver.
But then he looked again at the fair-complexioned, beautiful, and tall Song Tan, and he managed to retain his rationality—for now:
“No! You wouldn’t be able to pull him. He probably wouldn’t want to go with you anyways.”
Seeing him respond that way, Song Tan felt more confident and smiled, “He doesn’t bite, does he?”
The man shook his head hastily: “Absolutely not!”
By nature, the dog wasn’t aggressive or fierce. Especially given its size, opening its mouth could easily lead to an accident, so that was a focus of its training right from the start.
Song Tan smiled and walked directly up to Kangal, reaching out to stroke his head.
“Hey, our Big King doesn’t like—”
He was only halfway through his sentence when he saw Kangal extend its neck forward, pushing its fluffy head into Song Tan’s palm, allowing her to stroke it.
The dog then closed its eyes, snuffling contentedly, clearly reveling in the sensation.
The man was at a loss for words, finding it hard to believe that his dog was truly enjoying itself!
He murmured in puzzlement, “How can this be…”
Song Tan turned to smile at him, “Don’t worry, I am really confident.”
“If you don’t believe me, let’s try having me walk him around for a bit and see if he’s willing to follow me.”
Throughout this time, Kangal’s expression remained gentle, even showing a hint of reluctance to leave.
The man hesitated for a moment, then stepped back, “Go ahead and try then. Just let go if you can’t hold onto him.”
Song Tan then took hold of the leash, and with a gentle shake said, “Let’s go for a walk.”
Kangal looked at his owner, then noiselessly stepped down from his seated position.
The whole all-terrain vehicle trembled slightly, and finally, its paws touched the ground.
The spring breeze blew, greenery surrounded them, and under the warm sunshine, Kangal’s running motions seemed so small and gentle.
The man was astonished to find that his Big King was maintaining the same pace as the young lady beside him.
Fierce as a tiger on the outside, tender-hearted within.
In that moment, he wavered profoundly.
What do you think?
