Chapter 196 The Guardian Awakens
Unlike the draconic beasts commonly seen in Eternia, this was the real thing—an ancient, dragon that bore the power of Drakha, the legendary realm of dragons, which could only be accessed during the Red Moon.
Its skeletal frame loomed over the battlefield, sickly green ethereal flames flickering in the hollow sockets of its skull. Every step it took left a faint trail of black mist, its presence alone sending chills down the spines of even the most seasoned warriors. The air grew heavy, thick with the scent of magic and decay.
This was not just another battle. This was a war between legends.
Seraphina didn't flinched. She raised her blade, golden light coalescing around her. [Celestial Ascension] activated, her power soaring to its peak.
The battlefield grew silent for a brief moment as the two warriors prepared to clash again.
Then, they exploded into motion.
Horizon swung his empowered blade, the sheer force of the attack carving through the air. Seraphina met it head-on, their weapons colliding in a blinding flash of light.
The shockwave sent dust and debris flying, forcing the other combatants to momentarily pause.
The battlefield was now a stage for legends. The Dracolich stood tall, its skeletal wings spread wide as its hollow sockets burned with eerie blue flames. Every breath it exhaled sent ripples of necrotic energy through the air, warping the battlefield with an aura of death. The crowd, once roaring in excitement, now held their breath—Wingless Valkyrie was in trouble.
A monster of that caliber wasn't something just anyone could face.
Seraphina's grip on her Celestial Blade tightened. She had expected Horizon to go all out, but summoning his Dracolich this early in the fight? That meant he wasn't underestimating them—not even for a second.
Before the Dracolich could make its move, Aria, Dawnfire, and Fiora sprang into action. They had prepared for this.
Aria's voice rang through the battlefield, smooth yet commanding as she activated her Hymn of Harmony. The air shimmered as golden runes circled around her, amplifying the power of her allies. "We're not going down so easily."
Dawnfire raised both hands, her Flame Nova spiraling upward. The fire twisted and turned, reshaping into a massive sigil that hovered in the sky. "Fiora, now!"
Fiora, the Spirit Druid, closed her eyes and chanted in a whisper-like voice, her fingers tracing glowing green symbols in the air. The ground trembled, and from beneath the arena floor, a Guardian Beast emerged—a massive ethereal wolf, wreathed in golden light.
The Lunar Guardian let out a deep growl, its form semi-transparent, yet radiating a divine presence. It leaped in front of the Dracolich, its fangs bared. The undead dragon reeled back, its soulless eyes narrowing. It recognized a predator.
The clash was immediate.
The Dracolich lunged forward, its claws tearing through the air, but the Lunar Guardian met it with a flash of silver light, knocking the attack aside. Blue fire clashed with celestial energy, sending waves of heat and cold across the battlefield.
With the Guardian Beast holding the Dracolich at bay, the battle between Nyx's Guild and Wingless Valkyries erupted into full force.
Seraphina's Celestial Blade flashed as she met Horizon head-on. Their swords clashed in a burst of golden and dark energy, locking them into a brutal exchange of speed and power.
Von, wielding his twin guns, moved like a shadow, targeting Velvet. "You're fast, but let's see if you can outrun bullets."
Velvet smirked, vanishing into the shadows just as [Venomous Strike] activated. She reappeared behind Von, her dagger aimed for his neck. Bang! A bullet barely grazed her cheek—he had anticipated her move.
Frigid, the towering ice tank, stood as an immovable fortress, his frost-covered shield absorbing spell after spell from Dawnfire's Molten Rain. Steam erupted as fire met ice, but Frigid didn't even flinch.
Aria, her magic still resonating through the battlefield, locked eyes with Silphie, the priestess healer. A battle of enchantments began—Silphie's holy blessings counteracting Aria's siren illusions in a mesmerizing display of magic. Continue reading on My Virtual Library Empire
Meanwhile, Fiora, the weakest of the team, wasn't idle. She wove between the chaos, providing support—healing wounds, boosting agility, and reinforcing the Lunar Guardian as it fought the Dracolich.
The battlefield was split in half—Wingless Valkyrie on one side, Horizon's team on the other, neither willing to fall.
Seraphina's swordplay was a thing of beauty, each swing of her Celestial Blade leaving streaks of divine light in the air. She matched Horizon blow for blow, refusing to let him overwhelm her.
"You're stronger than I anticipated," Horizon admitted, blocking a downward strike with his enchanted sword.
Seraphina's lips curled into a smirk. "And you're not bad yourself."
Horizon smiled a little. He suddenly twisted his sword, deflecting her strike and forcing her back. In that instant, he commanded his Dracolich to change targets—instead of focusing on the Lunar Guardian, it turned its blazing gaze toward Seraphina.
The dragon's maw opened wide—a blast of necrotic fire surged toward her.
Seraphina barely had time to react, raising [Radiant Aegis] just in time. A golden barrier formed around her, absorbing the impact, but the force sent her skidding backward.
"Damn it . . . ," she muttered, shaking off the numbness in her arms. Horizon wasn't holding back the least. Not that she wanted him to. But it felt like he was truly trying to kill her, which stung more than she expected. Didn't their previous partnership mean anything?@@novelbin@@
How ruthless. Seraphina thought, tightening her grip on her sword as she parried Horizon's strike with renewed force.
Seeing Seraphina struggling, Dawnfire and Aria adjusted their strategy.
"Velvet, keep Von occupied!" Dawnfire commanded before raising her staff. Flames roared to life as she activated [Phoenix Rebirth], her entire body engulfed in fire.
Aria followed suit, summoning a barrage of illusions to confuse Frigid and Silphie.
Fiora, panting from overuse of magic, made one final gamble. She knelt on the battlefield, pressing her hand to the ground.
A second guardian began to emerge.
This one was smaller, but its aura was just as potent—a radiant stag, symbolizing divine protection. It leaped forward, ramming the Dracolich with full force, knocking it back.
The audience erupted in cheers.
Wingless Valkyrie wasn't out of this yet.
What do you think?
