Chapter 357: The Sword God
Slicing the key at the air before him, Cassius and gang watched as a huge tear spread apart above the mountain. They could see mystical energies and elements swirling around inside the tear, making it appear quite mesmerizing.
Beckoning Raijin to fly through the tear, Cassius stood with his arms folded behind his back. Looking like an Immortal, he, his two dragon-women, and his Evomon vanished into the dimensional tear. It closed up behind them, with the humanoid Monsters that came to check out the commotion left exchanging confused glances with one another.
While traveling between Ascension Towers in a far more complex spatial tunnel, Cassius's thoughts stirred.
'It's obvious by the order of the Main Quest Goals that the System wants me to complete them based on their number. This is to say that what I should be doing right now is finding a way into Heaven.'
As far as he was aware, the only known ways to enter the Heavenly Kingdom from the other Towers were through Humanity's Tower. Humans had an innate and profoundly complicated connection with the Angels and the Almighty Father—far more so than the other races.
As such, it was relatively well-known that one could enter Heaven from the Tower of Humanity.
As for how this was possible, well… Cassius was unsure.
'Those on the 5th Floor and below hardly know anything beyond the scope of their territories,' he thought. 'But I'm sure the 6th Floor will possess both far more powerful Powerhouses and a vaster bank of knowledge.'
Rather than arrive on the 0th Floor of Humanity, Cassius and gang found themselves on the 1st Floor, which was commonly considered the official starting point for Humans.
Those talented or connected enough could eventually ascend to the 2nd Floor. Then the 3rd Floor. So on and so forth.
But when it came time to knock on the doors of the 6th Floor, very few had the necessary qualifications…
The Sword God was one of the more famous among the ones fortunate enough to ascend to the 6th Floor. And right now, while peacefully looking out at the beautiful, middle-aged scenery beyond his castle's main balcony, a sudden shaking attracted his attention.
"A newcomer?" he mused, sending out his Magic Sense. "I wonder who it is. If I remember correctly, there should be no one close to Ascension on the lower floors."
It didn't feel like a member of a different race or a hostile invader, which raised even more questions in his mind. And in his curiosity, he disappeared from his spot before reappearing in the skies above.
After getting closer to the source of the disturbance, the Sword God felt an odd familiarity with whatever arrived.
"Is this…?"
Noticing his first visitor, Cassius's cold eyes met the fierce, hardened gaze of the Sword God.
He paused.
Then a smirk formed as his eyes curved upward.
"Hello, Senior Character Developer," he greeted with a wave. "More than anyone else, you're the one I've been most wanting to meet."
"???" 'There's no mistaking it! He's…!'
"A Practitioner of the Sword God's Trainer Arts!" Brows were raised. "But how!?"
"Mashter, who is this big weirdo?" A scrutinizing glare formed in Yimin's slitted eyes as she looked the Sword God from head to toe.
The 'big weirdo' had muscles on top of muscles and towered over most humans at 7+ feet tall. He had a wild, unkempt mane hugging his backside, further adding to his warrior aesthetic. And to top things off, his aura was immense—far greater than anything they had felt thus far.
Maxy, on the other hand, had a very different reaction to the appearance of the warrior-like man. At first, she had no clue who he was, but gradually, realization washed over her.
"The… Sword God…!?"
Out of all humans, one of the most famous was none other than the Sword God!
Although still technically within the EX-Rank, he was one of the few existences who could fight above their rank. He was also older than some God-like entities, which popped up a certain question:
Why hadn't he ascended?
The answer to this question was the primary reason why the Sword God was so famous. Because sure, he had both the potential and opportunity necessary to ascend to divinity. Yet he… purposefully chose not to follow through.
He prevented his own ascension!
"You're the Sword God," Cassius began. "The one who held back his ascension to a higher state of being so you could reach the epitome of mental fortitude and resilience. A Character Developer through and through."
"…You know that about me, but I still know nothing about you," said the Sword God, with the snowy-white greatsword hanging on his back thrumming a song of death. "Are you an enemy to humanity? Now that I get a closer look, you definitely aren't one of us. Neither is your mount, that Shadow creature, or the two other dragonoids with you."
Cassius's body instinctively cowered in the face of the Sword God's menacing stare. It felt like he was but a small insect facing a massive lion.
Fierce!
Overpowered!
'This is what a true Character Developer looks like!'
Smiling, Cassius ruffled Yimin's hair without turning away from the large-bodied Sword God.
Responding to his question, he said:
"I'm originally a human, and I'm definitely not your enemy."
"How did you get here, then?" the Sword God inquired with an inquisitive glint. "You're strong—stronger than any human I've heard of being on the lower Floors. There's one… a single human who's an exception, but you aren't that human."
'He must be talking about Father,' Cassius inferred, Adam Steele's image growing inside his head. 'I wonder just how strong my Father actually is…'
What he saw on the 0th Floor of Humanity was surely just the tip of the iceberg.
Returning his attention back to the Sword God, Cassius replied, "I convinced the powerhouses and Floor Guardians of the lower Floors to make way."
"Make way—?"
"Intruder! State your business here!!"
A thundering voice suddenly carried through the air; accompanying it were lightning strikes that discolored the skies. Several Peak Transcendents then appeared, moving as if they had been there the entire time.
What do you think?
