Chapter 292 15 years later (1)- Broken
Fifteen years later,
The town had changed a lot. It had grown bigger, with twice as many people. From a distance, it looked like a swarm of ants moving around.
Technology had improved a lot with the help of magic. It wasn't as advanced as Earth's technology, but it had something special: magic. Experience tales at My Virtual Library Empire
People from many different races lived in the town and got along well. The town had changed in many ways, showing how much it had grown and united.
In the center of the town was the same old lavish building, the one that everyone bowed themselves at, the church.
It had become bigger than before and this real power emanated from it, unlike when Lucas felt nothing from it.
Right at the corner of the town, there was a huge building, it looked as if the best artisans of the world had made it with their bare hands.
People were going in and out of the building as if it was the hub for something.
While the town had developed a lot in these 15 years, this particular building looked more technologically advanced from the inside, it had stripped light at the corners and a cold atmosphere.
A proper mix of magic and technology could be seen in there.
With around 10 floors to the building, each floor showcased a different kind of market, while one had artifacts manufactured to help in hunting and daily activities, the other had magically enhanced monsters.
A new kind of slavery was started a few years back and it was none other than Lucas who had discovered it.
While all 9 of the floors showcased different kinds of markets, there was one among them that had nothing, the top floor.
On that floor, many people were present in lavish clothing as if it was a noble gathering yet something in the air felt like there was more to it.
They were all seated on circular tables with their eyes on a coffin at the center of the room.
5 master elders were standing right beside the coffin looking at it with sorrowful eyes.
There was another person among those 5, a middle-aged man who looked in his 30s.
There was a feeling of matureness around him. His muscular build was evident beneath his finely tailored noble attire. The broad shoulders and a chiseled chest were complimented by a well-defined jawline and high cheekbones, there was a sense of rugged handsomeness on his face.
Something that made people look back and forth at him not daring to make any eye contact.
It may have been because of his deep piercing eyes which were a deep shade of crimson, those eyes seemed to hold a wealth of knowledge and experience.
His hair was dark and slightly tousled which added a rough charm to his already ruggish appearance.
"Lucas…" A voice came from the side, a woman in a stunning gown that captivated all who looked at her.
Yet everyone knew how to control themselves, they were in the presence of the man that had dominated this town for the past 10 years.
Lucas looked at her, and then the dress. It was a masterpiece of design, flowing like liquid silk in a shade of deep emerald that complemented her radiant complexion. He gave a warm but sad smile to her.
"I tried everything..." Lucas muttered and continued with a pained voice, "But nothing worked on him, Mary. In the end, he died too."
No tears came out of his eyes yet there was this aura emitting from him. It echoed inside the room and whoever came in contact with it, tears started coming out of their eyes.
Mary looked around the room and herself, her tears were not stopping and it was not because her emotions were a turmoil. She looked at Lucas's eyes and felt the pain he was experiencing more than others.
"Lucas… listen to me please, your emotions are not controlled right now... Everything is coming out," Mary said in between sniffles, she tried with all her might to not cry yet whenever she looked at Lucas's face, the hit became even stronger.
Lucas on the other hand looked around and saw what he was doing, it was unintentional but it was still him.
He looked at his right hand which was covered by the sleeves of his attire, his eyes went beyond that, to the one thing that he hated on his body.
The mark of the damned.
In all these years, it had changed its state many times. A few years ago, it had changed again.
Lucas tried stopping his emotions from getting out, he closed his eyes and concentrated on calming himself down.
He was successful after a few seconds yet when he opened and looked at the coffin again, it burst out from his body again.
Mary knew William was not doing it intentionally, he might not have shown it yet the death of Sam, his first master had hit him dearly.
"Lucas, you tried but you have to keep in mind that Master went away after living a good life." Mary tried consoling him.
"I could have made him get a few more years, Mary. If not for that abomination…" The pain started changing to anger and everyone in the big room started feeling a prickly feeling on their skin.
It was increasing each second as if multiple centipedes were walking on their skin.
Many among the audience who had experienced this before or knew about it ran away as quickly as they felt it.
The 5 elders were too silent, their eyes never left the coffin even for a second, they weren't blinking either.
CLANK
Lucas was out of it but then he felt something, he looked down and saw a black handcuff on his right hand.
"Sorry, Lucas. You need this right now… It will help you control the mark." Mary took heaves of breath while she started sweating profusely.
William looked at the handcuff and then at Mary, his eyes finally getting numb, the feeling of the mark was suppressed since his hand got cuffed by the black object.
"I am so broken, Mary. I am so sorry..." Lucas muttered slowly as for the first time in a decade, a trickle of tear came out of his sorrowful eyes.
What do you think?
