Chapter 168: 168, She Finally Came Back (2) _1 Chapter 168: 168, She Finally Came Back (2) _1 “Knock, knock–”
At the light sound of someone knocking, Quan Jingwu’s purple eyes flew open, and Jian Qing woke up as well.
The person outside the door seemed quite anxious, pushing the door open and coming in after knocking twice.
“Little Qingqing, your aunt is here to see you.”
Rhee walked in quickly, followed by Quan Hao.
“Little Qingqing…”
Rhee’s worried voice abruptly halted, her eyes wide and mouth agape as she stared at her son slowly getting out of bed.
Quan Hao gave a light, embarrassed cough into his fist.
Jian Qing watched as Rhee and her husband froze, a hint of embarrassment flashing in her eyes. “Aunt, Uncle!”
Why did they always barge in at times like this?
She sighed, looking heavenward.
Regaining her composure; Rhee quickly walked over and asked, appraising Jian Qing with concern, “Little Qingqing, how are you? I heard this morning that you got admitted to the hospital. How did you get acute gastroenteritis all of a sudden? Is it because Jingwu didn’t take good care of you?”
Jian Qing hastily explained, “It’s not Xiaojing’s fault. I ate too many cold foods.”
Rhee looked at her tenderly, “Just look at how thin you’ve become! You need to recover your strength these next few days.”
Jian Qing replied, “Aunt, I’m fine now. I’m sorry to have troubled you.”
“What do you mean, ‘it’s fine’? Look at your pale face.” Rhee disagreed, then turned to Quan Hao to instruct him, “Ahao, bring over the vegetable porridge and chicken soup.”
Jian Qing saw Quan Hao with two food containers in his hand and felt warmth in her heart.
“Aunt, thank you.”
Rhee’s mouth curved slightly upward, “Silly child, don’t mention it. We’re all family after all.”
Jian Qing’s eyes sparkled, and she gave a faint smile.
Rhee had everything prepared. She even brought bowls for the soup. Quan Jingwu held the vegetable porridge and sat on the bed, ready to feed Jian Qing.
Rhee and Quan Hao took a seat nearby. Unable to calmly accept him feeding her, Jian Qing reached out to take the bowl from him.
“I can do it myself. You should go and eat something, too.”
Quan Jingwu avoided her hand, scooped a spoonful of porridge, blew on it to cool it down, and brought it to her mouth. “You eat first. I’m not in a rush.”
Rhee chimed in, “Exactly, Little Qingqing, you’re the patient. You should eat first. It’s fine if Jingwu eats slower.”
Seeing his determined eyes, Jian Qing stopped fighting with him and ate the vegetable porridge he fed her. A feeling of warmth spread to her stomach as she ate the porridge.
As Rhee and Quan Hao watched, they exchanged smiles.
They had shared such moments when they were young, too.
“That’s enough. I’m full. You should go and eat now,” Jian Qing urged.
Quan Jingwu pulled out a tissue and wiped her mouth, “No more?”
“Hmm, I’m full,” Jian Qing nodded.
Quan Jingwu picked up the empty bowl and spoon and started to eat the porridge directly, undisguisedly comfortable with it.
Jian Qing watched his actions and paused.
Was this…indirect kissing?
“Little Qingqing, your body is weak. You need someone to take care of you. Why don’t you come and stay with us for a few days? We’ve plenty of people at our place and we can take care of you,” suggested Rhee.
They had prepared the soup and porridge for her early in the morning and Jian Qing felt bad enough as it was. She could not possibly agree to stay at their mansion and be an imposition.
“No need, Aunt, I can take care of myself. And Jingwu is with me as well.” Fearing Rhee would insist, Jian Qing quickly deployed Quan Jingwu.
Just as Rhee was going to persuade her again, Quan Jingwu interjected, “Mom, we’re living together.”
With his words, the ward fell into a rather tricky silence.
Quan Hao glanced approvingly at his son. Ah, a worthy son of his! His initiative was excellent. Just like him!
After a brief pause, Rhee let out a shrill cry. She looked at Jian Qing with an excited expression, “Really? Little Qingqing, are you two living together?”
Did that mean she would be a grandmother soon?
Jian Qing turned to glare at Quan Jingwu, annoyed at him for bringing up the inconvenient topic. When she looked at Rhee, she gave a slight nod, slightly embarrassed.
“That’s great. I’ll be able to rest easy knowing that Jingwu is looking after you,” Rhee laughed so hard her shoulders shook, and her purple eyes glowed with amusement.
After chatting with Jian Qing for a while, Rhee and her husband left. Jian Qing noticed that her IV was almost finished and reached out to remove the tube.
“Wait, darling!”
Quan Jingwu turned around just in time to see her actionsand hastily stopped her.
“What are you doing?”
A faintly unnatural expression flashed across Jian Qing’s delicate face. She pointed to the nearby bathroom, “Nature calls.”
“I’ll have the nurse remove it for you,” Quan Jingwu said in a deep voice.
“I can do it myself.” Jian Qing didn’t wait for him to finish and quickly removed the IV tube. The prick site on her hand flushed a hint of purple black.
Quan Jingwu grabbed her hand and checked on it, finally breathing a sigh of relief on seeing no blood.
“I’ll help you to the bathroom.”
Jian Qing nodded and allowed him to assist her. As they reached the bathroom door and she saw his intention to accompany her inside, the corners of her mouth twitched upward slightly.
“Xiaojing, what are you planning to do?”
“Accompany you!” He replied matter-of-factly.
Jian Qing’s face fell. Without a word, she pushed him out and shut the door on him tidily.
…
The sky was cloudless and slightly stifling.
Outside the bustling airport, a stunning figure drew constant gazes from passersby.
The woman’s long, wavy hair hung freely over her shoulders, her slender eyebrows and expressive eyes full of charm. A prominently high nose and fair, delicate skin perfected by a white long dress accentuating her graceful figure and enhancing her gentle elegance.
A bodyguard carried her luggage and a driver opened the car door for her, respectfully announcing, “Miss, the housemaster and madam are waiting for you at home.”
“Hmm.” The woman responded carelessly, stepping into the car with graceful poise.
On the car ride, she closed her eyes and pretended to take a nap while her mind swirled with news she had received from abroad. Her hand, resting on her lap, clenched suddenly, her fingernails digging into her palm, but she felt no pain.
In a suburban white villa, an expectant middle-aged couple watched the car pull up, their faces lighting up with joy.
“Dad, mom!”
As the butler opened the car door, the woman stepped out. Seeing the middle-aged couple, a smile crept onto her face.
“Rourou!”
Seeing the woman, the middle-aged woman rushed to greet her, the joy evident in her eyes.
“My Rourou, you’re finally back. Mommy missed you terribly.”
Indeed, three years after the farewell, Song Xirou had finally returned.
Gently patting her mother’s back, Song Xirou smiled softly, “Mom, didn’t I come back? There’s no need for you to cry.”
Zhang Tong wiped away a tear from her eye corner, “Your mom is just happy, that’s all.”
Song Yi looked at his daughter approvingly, asking warmly, “It’s good that you’re back. How was it abroad?”
“It was okay,” replied Song Xirou.
“Let’s speak inside. Mommy had the cook prepare lots of delicious food for you. It’s time to rejuvenate yourself,” said Zhang Tong as she pulled Song Xirou toward the house, with Song Yi following behind.
What do you think?
