Chapter 170: 170. The Person You Don’t Know (1)_1 Chapter 170: 170. The Person You Don’t Know (1)_1 Surprise flitted across Quan Jingwu’s eyes. Her younger brother?
He remained silent. Assuming he didn’t believe her, Jian Qing rubbed his cheeks and said, “Silly Xiaojing, haven’t you heard about my mom giving birth to twins years ago?”
“Hmm.” Quan Jingwu lowered his gaze to look at her, his handsome face changing from gloomy to sunny.
“Why didn’t he come back with you?”
The smile faded from Jian Qing’s lips, and her voice dropped. “To my brother and me, Beijing only holds painful memories. It’s better my hands alone be stained with its unsavory matters. As long as he is safe and happy, that’s good.”
Her light words caused a dull pain in his heart, and he tightened his arms around her involuntarily. “Little treasure, you have me. From now on, no one will be able to harm you, not even slightly. I promise.”
Even he would not allow himself to hurt her slightest bit.
Hearing this, Jian Qing’s lips lifted slightly, and she burrowed deeper into his arms.
“Ding ––”
The doorbell rang. Jian Qing was surprised. Who could it be at this time?
Quan Jingwu got up to open the door, and Jian Qing followed him.
Seeing who was at the door, both people were stunned, particularly the old man in the wheelchair, whose face was a mixture of complex emotions, tinged with faint resentment.
Why is this rascal Quan Jingwu here?
Hearing that Jian Qing had been hospitalized, the old Mr. An couldn’t stay at home. He insisted on having Aqiu prepare a car to visit her.
Aqiu regained his composure and respectfully greeted, “Miss Jian, Master Jing!”
Jian Qing responded and then turned her gaze towards the old man in the wheelchair, her voice neutral, “Grandpa An, what are you doing here?”
Although she had called him “Grandpa” since she returned, each time she said it, it felt a bit bitter. Mr. An looked at her with concern, “How’s your health? Aqiu said you were in the hospital, how did you get discharged so quickly?”
Meeting his genuine concern, Jian Qing was reminded of the times when she was a child and Mr. An would bribe her with candy to take her medicine.
“I’m fine. You guys come in first.”
Saying this, she stepped aside to let them in.
Aqiu pushed Mr. An into the room. As he sat down in his wheelchair, Mr. An took in the interior décor. It was nice.
Quan Jingwu asked Jian Qing to sit on the sofa while he headed off towards the kitchen.
“Aqiu, you sit too.”
Jian Qing put away the file Quan Jingwu left on the sofa and moved it aside. Mr. An keenly spotted the ‘JK International’ logo on it, a sour feeling rising in his heart.
Did Quan Jingwu bring his work to Qingqing’s place? Were they living together?
At this point, Quan Jingwu brought over a teapot and a few cups, moving in a familiar manner as if he were the man of the house.
Jian Qing took the cups from him, poured tea, and handed them to Mr. An and Aqiu.
Quan Jingwu sat down next to her. Both were dressed casually in black, looking like a newlywed couple.
This was the first time Mr. An had seen them together, and although he resentfully thought about Quan Jingwu stealing his little Qingqing away, he couldn’t deny how well they suited each other.
“Qingqing, acute gastroenteritis is not a laughing matter. Why don’t you move back into the mansion? I can have someone prepare some health supplements for you,” Mr. An found a topic to break the somewhat awkward silence.
Before Jian Qing could respond, Quan Jingwu interjected, “That won’t be necessary. I’ll take good care of darling.”
What would he do if his wife moved back to the An mansion?
“If you could take good care of her, she wouldn’t end up in the hospital,” Mr. An grumbled unhappily.
At this, Quan Jingwu’s eyebrows furrowed. He didn’t retort, since he did admit to his mistake.
Jian Qing gently grasped his hand and turned to Mr. An. “I don’t feel like moving back to the An family mansion right now. I appreciate you coming all this way to visit me today.”
“Qingqing, you…” A hint of dejection flickered in Mr. An’s eyes. He waved his hand. “Never mind, let it be.”
Jian Qing saw the fleeting look of loss on Mr. An’s face, but she had no choice but to ignore it at the moment.
The vibration of her phone broke the silence.
Jian Qing picked it up. The call was from Jian Luo.
Quan Jingwu saw the “Meng’er” note on the display and didn’t feel jealous anymore. After all, he would have to get along with his future brother-in-law.
Without avoiding Mr. An, Jian Qing answered the call.
“Luoluo!”
Mr. An’s hand, holding his teacup, trembled as he heard this, causing the pale yellow tea to splash out.
Could it be Yanyan?
Yes, it must be him. Qingqing had mentioned before that Yanyan had changed his name to Jian Luo. It had to be him.
With this thought, a mix of excitement and hope filled Mr. An’s eyes. He was staring intently at Jian Qing’s phone.
On the other end of the line, Jian Luo, basking in the sun on the balcony, felt aggrieved when he heard Jian Qing’s voice. “Sis, how have you been doing recently?”
“Very well, where have you been?” Jian Qing said with a faint smile in her eyes.
“At the manor.” Jian Luo snorted and couldn’t resist saying, “Sis, don’t you have something you want to tell me?”
Being from the same mother, Jian Qing could hear the implications in his words. She laughed helplessly, “You already know, don’t you?”
It seemed the news had spread quickly. If Luoluo knew, then Black Jack and Bai Jue probably knew too.
“Sis, you’re too much. You didn’t even tell me about such a crucial matter.” Jian Luo complained.
“Alright, alright, it is my fault. I was planning to tell you in a few days. I didn’t expect you to find out ahead of time.” Jian Qing placated him patiently. She was pondering whether their grandfather had heard about it.
Jian Luo grumbled, “Liar.”
“Qingqing, is it…” Unable to contain his curiosity, Mr. An intervened. He looked at her expectantly.
Jian Qing gripped her phone tightly but neither confirmed nor denied his guess.
Mr. An’s voice was loud enough to resonate through the phone, and Jian Luo’s sharp ears picked it up. “Sis, who’s talking with you?”
Jian Qing, looking at Mr. An, replied lightly, “No one. You don’t know them.”
Before her words could fully register, Mr. An feeling a pang in his heart, he tried to mask the bitterness welling up in his eyes.
Did she hate him so much? She spoke in such a decisive manner.
Aqiu opened his mouth as if to say something, but didn’t know what. He looked at Mr. An with concern.
Why was Miss Jian being so cruel?
On the other end of the phone, Jian Luo thought nothing more of it and said, “Sis, I’ll be visiting you in Beijing in a few days. I want to see who this Quan Jingwu is, to be able to steal my sister.”
Jian Qing smiled wryly. This time, she had no intention of dissuading him. “Okay.”
After a few brief exchanges, Jian Qing ended the call. When she looked up, she saw the dejected expression on Mr. An’s face, a flicker of remorse surfaced in her heart.
What do you think?
