Chapter 171 - 171 171 Is it a Bit Cruel (2)_1
Chapter 171: 171, Is it a Bit Cruel (2)_1 Chapter 171: 171, Is it a Bit Cruel (2)_1 “Miss Jian Qing, since you are well, I am going to head back now.” Lord An spoke slowly, his voice bearing the weight of time.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to ask more questions, but rather, he was afraid to hear more from her that might upset him.
“Aqiu, let’s leave.”
“Yes.” Aqiu looked at Jian Qing and seeing no sign of her wanting to say anything, he rose and pushed the wheelchair towards the exit.
Jian Qing and Quan Jingwu saw them off to their car. As Lord An boarded, he paused momentarily, turned, and glanced at Jian Qing. As he turned back to face forward, his mouth let out a soft sigh.
Watching Lord An’s slightly stooped figure, Jian Qing’s hands, which hung beside her, clenched fractionally. Her eyes flickered from light to dark, her emotions unreadable.
As the vehicle disappeared from sight, Jian Qing began to speak softly, “Xiaojing, was I too cruel to him?”
Quan Jingwu pulled her into his embrace, stroked her hair, and spoke softly into her ear, “My dear, you are the kindest person in this world, nobody has the right to call you cruel.”
“Ha!” Jian Qing buried her head in his neck, chuckling derisively at herself, “Xiaojing, it seems I really can’t bring myself to hate him, what should I do?”
“My dear, just act according to what your heart tells you.” He tilted his head, his lips brushing lightly against her ear, “I told you before, you can do whatever you want, mistakes will be on me, so don’t force yourself anymore.”
Jian Qing closed her eyes, nodding silently.
If she could not bring herself to be cruel, then she wouldn’t force it….
Quan Hao was called back for a temporary military assignment, leading to their planned shopping trip’s cancellation. So, Rhee simply decided to stay home and cook some soup, even calling Quan Jingwu to come pick it up later.
Coming out of the kitchen, Rhee saw her mother-in-law knitting something.
“Mom, you’re starting to knit scarves already?”
Madam Quan looked up at her, her eyes sparkled with a warm smile, “I knit them whenever I have the time, I plan to finish by winter and give them to Yimo and the others.”
Although the Quan family was wealthy, Madam Quan knitted a scarf for each of them every year, these scarves were full of warmth.
“Five people?” Rhee looked puzzled.
“Yes, I’m planning to knit one for Little Qingqing too.” Madam Quan nodded, pointing to a small ball of red yarn nearby, “How does this color look?”
“Nice, it’s festive. Qingqing has such lovely skin; the red color suits her complexion well.” Rhee agreed.
“Hehe!” Madam Quan laughed softly.
At that moment, their butler suddenly entered the room, “Madam, Miss Song from the Song family has arrived.”
Hearing this, Madam Quan appeared surprised and exchanged a bewildered glance with Rhee.
“Let her in.”
“Yes.”
After the butler left, Rhee looked somewhat puzzled, “Mom, isn’t Song Xirou abroad for her cold treatment? Why haven’t we heard anything about her returning?”
Madam Quan looked equally confused, “That’s what I was wondering as well!”
A moment later, the butler ushered Song Xirou in.
“Grandma Quan, Auntie!” Song Xirou greeted them politely with a charming smile on her face, making her seem difficult to dislike.
“Xirou, long time no see. You should have let us know when you came back.” Madam Quan put down her partially knit scarf and greeted Song Xirou with a smile.
“Come sit over here.”
“Grandma Quan, I’ve brought you some small gifts.” As she spoke, she put the gift box she was carrying on the table.”
Madam Quan laughed, “It’s enough for you to come, no need to bring gifts.”
Rhee looked at the smiling woman. Beneath her chestnut brown curls, she sported an impeccable makeup look and was wearing an elegant sky-blue dress. Her graceful and refined appearance was impressive.
Truthfully, Rhee had only met Song Xirou two or three times three years ago. She knew that Song Xirou had caught a cold while saving her mother-in-law, so the Quan family owed her a favor. However, for some reason, Rhee felt no fondness for her, or perhaps one could say there was no affinity.
On the other hand, when she first saw Jian Qing, Rhee was instinctively fond of her. Maybe it was just about the inexplicable bond between in-laws.
Song Xirou nodded and smiled at Rhee, then sat down next to Madam Quan and spoke affectionately, “Grandma Quan, despite not seeing you for so long, you still look as youthful as ever. You’ve not changed at all.”
Madam Quan patted her hand and chuckled, “You always know what to say. I’ve aged a lot!”
“Not at all, everything Xirou says is true.” She responded with an impish smile before turning to Rhee, “Isn’t that right, Auntie? Isn’t what I’ve said true?”
“Of course, mom is always beautiful.” Rhee gave a mild smiled.
Madam Quan, “You certainly know how to please me.”
“No way!” Song Xirou laughed.
“By the way, how is your leg doing? Did your cold get treated successfully?” Madam Quan asked, her face reflecting a bit of guilt.
“I still have one more treatment to go. But, I missed home and decided to sneak back before then.” Song Xirou confessed wistfully.
“Sigh, if you hadn’t saved me back then, you wouldn’t be in the condition you are now. In a way, I’m to blame.”
“Grandma Quan, if you say this, I will be upset. Even if it were someone else needing help back then, I would have done the same, besides… isn’t this also a form of destiny between us?” Song Xirou playfully shook Madam Quan’s arm and said with a bright smile.
“Alright, alright, enough said.”
“By the way, where is Yifei? Is she at work today?”
Madam Quan, “Yes, she has been quite busy these days, often working overtime.”
Song Xirou cast a glance at Rhee, her eyes revealing a hint of curiosity, “Auntie, have you just returned to Beijing?”
“Yes.” Rhee responded noncommittally.
Remembering that she had left the soup cooking in the kitchen, Rhee quickly stood up, “Mom, you two chat, I will check if the soup is ready.”
Madam Quan nodded, “Okay.”
Watching Rhee enter the kitchen, Song Xirou turned away and sighed wistfully, “No wonder the moment I walked in, I could smell something wonderful. So, Auntie was cooking soup. Uncle is indeed lucky to have such a dinner tonight.”
“That’s not for Ahao.” Madam Quan shook her head smilingly.
Song Xirou feigned surprise and blinked curiously, “Then who’s the lucky one?”
“Jingwu’s girlfriend. That girl has been ill and hospitalized for the past few days, and she lost a lot of weight, so Rhee cooked the soup for her to boost her health.” Madam Quan explained after giving Song Xirou a glance.
Although she had aged, her eyesight was still sharp. She could tell that Song Xirou had feelings for Jingwu. However, certain things were guided by fate. Jingwu now had Jian Qing, and she hoped that Song Xirou could quickly find her own life partner. Feelings weren’t something you could force.
“Jingwu has a girlfriend? I can’t believe his icy countenance could also melt one day!” Song Xirou appeared genuinely shocked.
“I just got back, so I hadn’t heard about this yet.”
“Well, this happened recently. You have been abroad, so it’s not surprising that you wouldn’t know.” Madam Quan advised.
“Grandma Quan, what kind of person is Jingwu’s girlfriend? She must be something to be able to melt his icy exterior.” Song Xirou exclaimed in amazement, her curious eyes turning to Madam Quan.
These reactions registered in Madam Quan’s eyes, leaving her somewhat puzzled.
Could it be that she was wrong? Was it possible that Xirou wasn’t in love with Jingwu?
What do you think?
