Chapter 553: The Art of Spending Money - Part 1
"The Fated One?" Elina was stunned by his words.
Her mouth fell open, and her eyes widened.
The Fated One was a name found in the legends of the Elven race.
It was said that the world would be on the verge of destruction with the appearance of a being called the "Evil God."
When that time came, the entire world, including the elves, would fall into unimaginable misery.
Hundreds of thousands—no, even tens of millions—of living beings would perish in the disaster.
Amid that crisis, one figure would emerge to save the world: the Fated One.
He would battle the Evil God, rescue the world, and lead it into a new era.
This legend was so deeply rooted in the Elven race that every individual knew of it.
Thanks to ancient records detailing the great war seven thousand years ago—which proved the Evil God's existence—the legend was no longer seen as a mere story but as a true prophecy expected to unfold in the future.
Elina vividly remembered how her sister, the Elven Queen, had eagerly awaited the Fated One's arrival.
Her sister had once said that the Fated One would come to the Elven territory and help solve a problem that had plagued them for thousands of years.
And now, the legendary figure from that prophecy was sitting right in front of her.
How could she not be shocked?
"Sir... You... Are you really the Fated One?" Elina asked, her voice trembling.
It wasn't that she doubted him—she just wanted to make sure she hadn't misheard.
Leon smiled and nodded. "Yes, I am indeed the Fated One. If you still have doubts, I can prove it."
Just as Leon was about to summon his holy power, Elina hurriedly stopped him.
"I believe you! I believe you!" she exclaimed, frantically waving both hands.
If Leon unleashed his power here, she feared her tent would be destroyed.
"Pfft!" Leon couldn't help but laugh at her adorable reaction. He let out a small sigh and continued, "So, how about my offer? Will you accompany me to the Elven territory?"
Elina fell silent for a moment before putting on a serious expression.
"Of course, Fated One. I will accompany you back to the Elven territory," she replied solemnly.
Her casual demeanor shifted into one of reverence. The man sitting before her was a legendary figure, and she felt she had to show him proper respect.
However, Leon didn't like her formal tone. He shook his head and said, "Don't be so formal. Just treat me like you usually do."
Elina looked hesitant at his words. She was about to respond when Leon suddenly pulled a small pouch from his pocket and handed it to her.
"By the way, this is your fee for accepting my request," he said casually.
"A fee for me?" Elina was dumbfounded. She accepted the pouch and opened it with trembling hands.
When she saw the pile of gold coins inside, her heart almost stopped.
"G-Gold coins!? And there are so many of them!" she exclaimed in shock.
As the younger sister of the Elven Queen, Elina held a high status among the Elven race.
Wealth and prosperity were things she had always taken for granted.
But after entering human territory, she faced hardships she had never imagined.
Forget gold coins—even silver coins were hard to come by. And now, holding a pouch full of gold coins, she found it hard to believe her eyes.
"Am I dreaming?" she muttered, tapping her cheeks.
The sharp pain that spread across her face quickly reminded her that this was no dream.
Everything was real—and she had just become a rich girl!
Her hilarious reaction made Leon burst out laughing. He waved his hand and said, "That's just the upfront payment. Once the journey ends, I'll give you even more."
For Leon, money wasn't something to worry about. Before setting out for Morvhal, he had already received a mountain of gold coins from his dragon ancestor.
The exact amount was unclear, but he estimated it to be around a hundred thousand gold coins—maybe even more.
And just this afternoon, Jim had handed him an additional ten thousand gold coins to support his journey.
In short, what he gave Elina wasn't even a drop compared to what he had.
"More...?" Elina froze when she heard his words.
The gold coins in this pouch alone probably numbered around a hundred.
If she received even more, wouldn't she be able to walk proudly across the entire human territory without ever worrying about food or anything else?
*Grrrkk!*
Just as Elina was drowning in her happiness, a loud rumble echoed from her stomach.
Elina: "(O_O)!"
***
"I'm sorry for troubling you, sir."
In a crowded tavern, Elina and Leon sat across from each other, with a table full of food between them.
Elina bowed her head in shame. She hadn't expected her stomach to growl so loudly, leaving her deeply embarrassed.
Leon chuckled lightly and said, "Don't worry about it. Come on, eat. I haven't eaten yet either."
Elina gave a small nod and began to eat. The table was loaded with dishes: grilled lamb shanks, stir-fried horse meat, vegetables in clear soup, bread, and many others.
Since arriving in human territory, she had never tasted such a luxurious meal. Every day, she had survived on bread and milk, trying to save as much money as possible.
The most extravagant meal she'd ever had was a chicken drumstick she bought from a street vendor in the city of Rothinia.
She grabbed a lamb shank, as big as her arm, and took a hearty bite.
As the savory, slightly spicy flavor of the spices and the sweetness of the honey coating touched her tongue, Elina's eyes curved into happy crescents.
"This is so good!" she exclaimed, smiling brightly as she continued to devour her food.
Across from her, Leon also bit into his lamb shank and nodded in approval.
"The seasoning is perfect. The addition of honey gives it a distinct aroma and leaves a unique aftertaste once the meat goes down," he praised sincerely.
Although he had eaten plenty of fine meals before, this lamb shank easily ranked in his top three. Of course, Liliana's cooking still held first place.
A dish made with love was simply unbeatable.
Leon finished half of his lamb shank, then glanced at Elina.
"By the way, Elina, could you tell me more about the Elven race? I'd like to know before we get there," he asked gently.
He already knew quite a lot about the Elven race from Miranda, but hearing it directly from Elina was a different matter.
After all, what Miranda knew was the Elven race from seven thousand years ago, while Elina was an Elf born in the present era.
There was simply no comparison between the two.
Elina finished chewing her food and swallowed. "Of course, sir. I'll tell you about it."
She then began to explain everything about the Elven race—from the government system they adopted to their traditions to the existence of the World Tree. She spoke clearly and in detail.
Of course, if it had been any other human, she wouldn't have revealed so much. But this was Leon, the Fated One.
Besides, he had been so kind to her that Elina didn't feel any hesitation or reluctance in sharing what she knew.
After about fifteen minutes of explaining, Elina finally succeeded in helping Leon understand everything about the Elven race.
A faint smile appeared on his lips as he murmured, "So that's how it is... The Elven race is truly fascinating and unique. I can't wait to meet them in person..."
What do you think?
