Chapter 556: The Most Unlucky Assassin in the World
"You..." Elina's expression hardened, her heart racing. "Who are you? What do you want from me?"
The knife was so close to her neck that even the slightest movement could make her bleed.
"Hahaha! Who am I? I'm a famous assassin, known as Tiger Fang. As for my purpose, of course, it's to capture you," he replied playfully.
His gaze roamed over Elina's body as he licked his upper lip. "You're an Elf—and it's rare to find one like you. If I sell you at the slave market, I'll make a fortune in gold coins! Hahaha!"
"Damn it..." Elina gritted her teeth in anger. She couldn't understand how her identity had been exposed.
Every day, she wore a cloak that covered her from head to toe.
Even when she performed fortune-telling, she kept her face hidden under her hood and disguised her voice to sound like an old woman.
Only Leon truly knew who she was. But surely, it couldn't have been Leon who betrayed her… could it?
"Hehehe! Alright, let's end this," the man said with a cold, mocking tone behind her. "Come quietly, or you'll regret it, Miss Elf."
But Elina showed no fear.
As a High Elf, she naturally possessed powers far beyond those of other races—even ordinary elves.
"Don't underestimate me, you scoundrel!"
With a flick of her fingers, thick root-like vines suddenly burst forth.
They multiplied rapidly, lunging straight at the man.
"Damn it!" The man was caught off guard and tried to press his knife against Elina's neck, but it was already too late.
Thick vines had wrapped tightly around his legs, and the next moment, his body was slammed hard against the wall.
*Boom!*
The impact was so powerful that a loud crashing sound echoed through the room.
Fortunately, the wall didn't shatter—it was reinforced with adamantine, the strongest material in the world.
Otherwise, the man would have fallen from the highest floor of the inn and died instantly.
"Cough! Cough!" The man coughed violently, clutching his chest and mouth.
When he glanced at his left palm, he saw a spot of blood. His expression twisted in rage beneath his monkey mask.
"You little brat! You asked for it! Don't blame me if your value drops after getting hurt!" he roared furiously.
Slowly, he staggered to his feet and then darted toward Elina like a sharp arrow.
Elina was slightly startled but showed no sign of fear.
She pressed her index and middle fingers together and pointed them forward.
*Whoosh!*
Vines shot out from all directions, aiming straight for the man. But he was no ordinary assassin—he was a top-class assassin—and managed to dodge them all with ease.
"What?" Elina's eyes widened in disbelief.
She hurriedly stepped back, but the man was already right in front of her.
"Hahaha! You're too slow, Miss Elf! Now, take your punishment!" He laughed coldly, pulling a dagger from his pocket.
Just as he was about to swing it at Elina, his movement froze. A vine had wrapped tightly around his wrist.
"Damn it!" he cursed angrily.
*Slash!*
He quickly pulled another dagger from under his cloak and cut the vine.
But when he turned his gaze back to Elina, he saw her already sprinting toward the door.
His face flushed with rage. "You little brat! How dare you trick me? I'll make sure to torture you before selling you!"
If Elina managed to escape, everything would be ruined.
Without a second thought, he dashed after her.
However, after just two steps, a crushing pressure suddenly slammed down on him.
*Bang!*
His body hit the floor hard, as if an invisible force had nailed him in place.
"Damn it! What is this?" His face twisted in terror.
He tried to move his fingers but couldn't.
While he was drowning in fear, a man appeared from beyond the door.
It was none other than Leon.
"Young Master!" Elina's eyes lit up with joy when she saw him.
At the same time, she let out a sigh of relief. If Leon hadn't shown up, the fight would have dragged on and likely damaged the room she was staying in.
The repair costs would have been expensive—and she didn't want Leon to have to pay for it.
Leon frowned, looking at Elina in confusion.
"Elina, what happened? Why is your room such a mess? Was there an enemy attack?"
Elina hurried to his side, stopping just beside him. She looked up timidly and said, "Young Master, just now..."
She then quickly explained everything that had happened.
After listening, Leon's expression turned cold. He shifted his gaze to the man still pinned to the floor by his aura.
"So you're the assassin who targeted Elina, huh? Who sent you?" Leon asked, his voice icy as he slowly stepped closer.
With every step, the pressure bearing down on the man grew heavier.
Seeing Leon approach, the man trembled in fear, but behind his mask, he kept a stubborn expression.
"I won't tell you," he gritted out.
"Oh?" Leon raised an eyebrow, a playful smile tugging at his lips. "Then I'll just make you talk."
As he spoke, he brought his index and middle fingers together and pressed them against the man's forehead.
*Buzz!*
A small spark of light entered the man's head—and within seconds, searing pain ripped through his body.
"Argh!" The man screamed hysterically. "It hurts! It hurts!"
His face turned deathly pale, and tears streamed uncontrollably down his cheeks as he was overwhelmed by unbearable agony.
He tried to struggle, but his body remained pinned down under the overwhelming force of Leon's aura.
"I'll tell you! I'll tell you! Just stop the pain!" he cried out desperately.
Leon withdrew the pain from his body and calmly crossed his arms over his chest.
"Then speak."
The man gasped for air before finally starting to talk.
Leon and Elina listened intently until he finished his story.
"So you discovered Elina was an Elf after you accidentally saw her in Rothinia City? And you spent a whole year following her just to kidnap her?"
Leon fell silent, unsure whether to admire the man's patience or call him a fool.
Spending an entire year watching her, only to fail at the crucial moment—especially with Leon by her side—was laughable.
If there were a ranking for the unluckiest people in the world, Leon was certain this man would be in the top three.
"Can you let me go? I've told you everything you wanted to know," the man pleaded, his voice trembling.
Leon didn't answer immediately. Instead, he turned to Elina, silently seeking her opinion.
Elina's expression darkened after hearing the man's confession.
She looked at Leon and said firmly, "Young Master, do whatever you want with him. Even if you kill him, I won't mind."
Her resolute tone brought a smile to Leon's lips.
"Good."
"Wait! Don't—" The man tried to speak, but Leon was faster.
With a finger shaped into a small sword of holy power, he swiftly slashed the man's head.
After ending him, Leon turned to Elina and said in a gentle voice, "I'll ask the inn staff to prepare a new room for you."
Elina bit her lower lip and let out a long sigh. "Thank you, Young Master."
What do you think?
