Nightmare Mythos

Chapter 199 Faceless

The travel towards the Egter City took a day to accomplish for Cesar since he had to avoid some paths that were already beyond use due to the distraction that the war had affected the world.

It was a pain in the ass since he had to take a few detours and used a trail that has been barely used for commercial travel due to the same influence of the war.

However, even with that day wasted through some others, Cesar gets to replenish his essence that ran out from the Quoel City defense.

So he was glad that mere hard labor was needed for the required task that he was about to do.

What could even go wrong?

Cesar entered the city and was able to see a few people here and there running around, carrying items and equipment to move around and go.

Soon, his car stopped at the parking street where the manor of the Mayor had become pretty destroyed and is currently undergoing construction.

Bringing the communicator with him, Cesar went down to his vehicle and went to approach somebody from the list of builders and workers of the Mayor's residence.

"Hello excuse me,"

Someone near the mansion looked in his direction and replied with a brimming smile.

"Uhm yes, what can I do for you?"

Cesar replied with a tilt of his head, "Uhm, someone asked that the city is currently in need of labor and I'm an additional manpower to do it."

The person that Cesar was currently talking with took a weird pause and continued standing motionlessly.

Finally, as if he had registered what he had to say, he replied very abruptly.

"That's right, labor! We were in dire need of labor! You see, the injured people from the wars that came through this city needed the Mayor since that's the only place available where they could recuperate their strengths and mend their injured strengths,"

The man paused, "Please help us,"

Cesar had a bizarre image of them but he accepted the job without any follow-up words.

He put the communicator in his pocket before stating, "What do I need to do to start?"

The individual did this long pause again as if the words were just registering inside his head before replying.

"Okay, your first job is to deliver the goods just right outside the gates. Some of them are stone bricks or wooden planks that have been harvested through the nearby forests and mines. Since we needed to adjust, we'll have to get any resources we can get. Now, come back here and repeat the same thing,"

As Cesar didn't want to use the teleporting ability that the key had stored to make the job easier, he decided to do the task with just pure labor.

He begins doing this hard labor.

"Hahh… Looks like I'm doing this alone,"

Using his Largening Hand artifact to carry three wooden planks and a few stone breaks, Cesar felt his mind at peace as he kept returning back and front outside and inside of the city.

He couldn't count the number of times he had delivered these items but he knew the rotation was already hundreds.

It was almost the time when the sun left the sky and someone would've already been annoyed by doing this repeatedly, but Cesar was different.

He liked it.

A task that is straightforward like this is something that Cesar needs once in a while since every situation he put himself in as far as he knew, always involved something dangerous that he had no choice but to watch his back as it could result in his death.

But the labor is different.

Cesar was even able to see the whole city for himself as he made some detours to see the situation.

So far, nothing weird happened.

He saw that the soldiers who were also doing the same labor as him to fix the Mayor's manor were moving around in place… weirdly in sync.

Your journey continues at My Virtual Library Empire

Cesar wasn't able to spot any injured officer yet but he knew they were being kept in the manor as he could see some of those laborers bring food inside.

There's something weird he was able to spot while surveying the city though, and that is the fact that the Mayor's manor was the only one being wrecked and under construction while the houses and the rest were normal.

Due to how destroyed he had seen the manor earlier when he got in its parking spot, Cesar thought the other houses were also in the same situation and needed immediate care since that could also be used as a spot for injured soldiers taking shelter.

If the city were attacked, it wouldn't have been the case where the manor was the only one affected.

But it's not like the lady from the communicator mentioned any attack as she spoke about the labor needed at the Egter City.

"Well anyways, as long as we're done here, I'll stay in this city for a while to proceed with my next deployment,"

His weird findings aside, anything else was pretty normal.

Thud—!

Bringing down another bunch of items all together while letting out a ragged sigh, Cesar looked at the same man earlier that he talked about doing this labor.

"This is the next batch,"

The guy who didn't give the courtesy to give out his name for Cesar paused for a moment as if it was some quirk of his before saying.

"Thank you for bringing these in. We deeply appreciate it,"

The unnamed individual looked at the sky became orange and said, "You should stop for now and be prepared for tomorrow. We'll continue our construction but it won't take a few days till this is done and you can report back the situation,"

Cesar looked around and smiled cheekily, "Where do I rest?"

The same figure took a long look at Cesar before smiling brightly, "We have available houses just right down the street. You can pick whatever place you want to sleep in. As for food, we don't really have that much to offer,"

'But I saw some guys delivering food back at the Mansion. But then again, they would need to take priority over a healthy-looking guy like me, noh?'

Understanding the current situation, Cesar had given up asking more and settled less with just accommodating a house to sleep.

Cesar followed the unnamed individual's words and went down one street away from the manor and used a very normal house to use.

He felt that he was alone in the house hence he didn't hesitate to enter inside.

Cesar instantly went to wash himself but was surprised to know the faucets weren't working which made him ignore cleaning himself.

'I'm so dirty though… I don't really want to sleep in bed while being all bloodied around but anyway, what can I even do?'

Instead of doing it through an available room, Cesar just lay in the available sofa and tried to take his rest to it since he was pretty hard.

"So what happened,"

And talking to Cedeit is one way to eat up his time.

He barely slept when the war erupted. He would only take a nap for a few hours but he would not get a complete cycle since all he had to worry about was himself.

But he wasn't alone this time.

Cedeit who seemed to be also waiting for Cesar to finish up whatever he was doing to make alone time for himself, had spoken through his mind.

"The consciousness that you managed to get from Doubt has its useful memories but that doesn't mean all of them are pretty useful. He had some history regarding the Void, The Ancient Void, and The Ancient Time but that's it,"

Cedeit paused, "Something is interesting about this consciousness though that you should be able to learn since understanding this 'conceptualized knowledge' will be very beneficial. I'm sure you will like it since it is one of the main powers that Deceit is using when he was in his prime,"

Cesar paused as if he liked where the conversation was going since he had three conceptualized knowledge that came from Deceit himself.

It was the ability to make superficial fire, the concealment that can disrupt an individual vision to a certain extent, and last but not the list, the paper figurines.

Truth be told, he still needs to make a few adjustments regarding his artificial fire since it wasn't up to the degree of perfection yet.

Cesar didn't even want to talk about the progress he made towards the other two conceptualized knowledge since he didn't even have a head start yet as he was focused on completing his fire.

Now he was about to learn another, he thought that he would be overwhelmed by the knowledge.

Yet screw all those thinking.

Cesar wanted to learn more about Deceit's abilities.

"What's it called?"

Cedeit then answered after a few seconds, "It's called Faceless. And it has the ability to change, not only His face but also His entire body if done perfectly,"
