Chapter 36: Academy Freshers (2)
As Kael and Ren sat at the far corner of the auditorium, enjoying their relative isolation from the commotion.
A group of boys approached them with an air of entitlement.
Leading them was Eric.
Kael knows him very well— As he was bitten almost 100 times by Protagonist .
A smug young man from a first-class noble house.
"Hey, you two, stand up," Eric barked, his tone dripping with arrogance.
"We’ll be sitting here. This isn’t a spot for the likes of you."
Kael, unfazed, leaned back slightly and glanced up at Eric with a neutral expression.
"I’m comfortable here. Find another seat."
Eric’s face twitched at the defiance, but it was the boy beside him, a lackey eager to please, who stepped forward aggressively.
"Don’t you know who he is? Eric is from the House of Blackthorne. Show some respect and get out of his way!"
Kael’s calm demeanor didn’t waver.
"I don’t care where he’s from. Seats don’t come with titles. Find another one."
The tension in the air thickened as Eric clenched his fists.
Ren shifted uncomfortably beside Kael, clearly aware this was heading in a dangerous direction.
"Kael," Ren murmured, his tone cautious.
But before anything else could be said, the lackey stepped forward, his hand raised as if to strike Kael.
Just as Kael prepared himself to counter,
His fist shot out, aiming for Kael’s face, but in a flash, Ren leapt from his seat.
"Enough!" Ren shouted, his arm swinging out in an arc.
CRACK
The satisfying crack of knuckles meeting jaw filled the space as Eric staggered back, clutching his face in shock.
"You dare—" one of Eric’s other lackeys started, but before he could finish, a stern voice cut through.
"WHAT is going on here?"
A teacher had appeared, his robes billowing slightly from his brisk arrival.
His gaze swept the scene, taking in Eric’s shocked expression, Ren’s defensive stance, and Kael, who remained seated, his calm exterior betraying nothing.
Eric immediately attempted to seize the opportunity. "Sir! These commoners—"
The teacher raised a hand, silencing him.
"I saw everything. Eric Blackthorne, disrupting the entrance ceremony and attempting to start a fight is unbecoming of a noble, even one of your rank."
Eric’s face burned with humiliation as he muttered something under his breath and slunk away, his lackeys following reluctantly.
The teacher turned to Kael and Ren, his sharp eyes narrowing.
"And you two. No retaliation next time. Inform an instructor if something like this happens again."
Kael inclined his head slightly. "Understood, sir."
Ren let out a sigh of relief as the teacher walked away. "That could’ve gone much worse."
Kael smirked faintly. "Thanks for jumping in."
Ren chuckled, rubbing his fist. "Yeah, but where’s the fun in that?"
As the two settled back into their seats, the surrounding students whispered in hushed tones, eyeing them with a mix of awe and curiosity.
Kael’s cool defiance and Ren’s bold intervention had not gone unnoticed, setting the stage for their unexpected rise in the academy’s social hierarchy.
Then suddenly The Auditorium felt silent.
The murmurs of students subsided as an elderly woman with an air of wisdom stepped onto the podium.
Principal Elowen Calthera, with her flowing white hair tied neatly behind her and piercing red eyes, exuded a calm authority.
Draped in elegant robes embroidered with the academy’s crest, she silenced the crowd with her mere presence.
"Welcome, students, to the Academy of Eterna," Principal Elowen began, "This academy has stood as a sanctuary of knowledge, discipline, and transfo....."
The boring speech continues.
Kael look towards Ren
"Huh"
He was sleeping.
Suddenly kael also decided to utilise time as he closes his eyes.
As the applause grew louder.
Kael opens his eyes to check what’s going on.
Only to see Lumia was giving her speech.
"—of you have earned your place here through hard work and determination."
"Bull shit" Kael muttered as he again decided to utilise his time.
As then again applause grew louder.
Kael woke up in frustration ’What the fuck, they can’t be little quiet"
As kael look towards podium.
Now it was ——
"Oh! Aveline She was discipline president."
Kael sighed as he leaned back in his seat, his eyes narrowing slightly at the mention of Aveline Ravencourt.
He couldn’t help but feel a pang of irritation.
Their previous encounter outside the labyrinth wasn’t something he could easily forget.
He recalled the tense moment vividly—
As then she exited the stage, the hall buzzed with nervous energy.
Principal Elowen returned one final time, her serene smile putting the crowd at ease.
"With that, we conclude the opening ceremony. Your journey begins today, and it will be one filled with challenges and triumphs."
She continues"Now, before you leave, you will find your assigned classes posted on the boards outside the auditorium. I wish each of you the very best for the year ahead. Once again, welcome to the Academy of Eterna."
With that, the ceremony concluded, and the students began to rise, their excitement mingling with anticipation.
As Kael and Ren approached the large, ornate board where the class assignments were displayed, the crowd of students bustled with excitement and nervous chatter.
The academy’s class system was a well-known structure, designed to cultivate competition and excellence among its students.
Classes were divided into three tiers:
1. S Class – Reserved for the elite. There were only two sections.
2. A Class – A step below S but still prestigious. Five sections made up this tier.
3. C Class – The most common class, consisting of ten sections.
Well student can rise up to upper classes by performing well. However, just as students could rise, they could also fall to a lower class if their performance faltered.
Kael stood in front of the board, his sharp eyes scanning the endless rows of names.
He had expected Ren to be in one of the S sections, but as he searched for his own, frustration began to creep in.
"I don’t see my name," Kael muttered under his breath, his brows furrowing.
Ren, who had already spotted his name at the top of the list in S Section 1, turned to Kael.
"Hey, Kael, is your full name... Kaelin?"
Kael glanced at him, a bit surprised.
"Yeah, it is. Why?"
Ren chuckled, pointing at the board.
"Look here, genius. Your name’s right under mine—S Section 1. Same as me."
Kael blinked and stared at the list again, and there it was:
Kaelin in bold lettering.
A faint smirk tugged at his lips. "As expected of my mother," he muttered to himself, recalling Sephina’s influence.
Still, his focus shifted. He wasn’t just here to confirm his own placement—there was someone else he was looking for.
His eyes darted across the board, searching for the name of a certain individual.
A name that, in the original novel, carried immense significance.
And there it was. The protagonist—his future rival and ally—was also listed in S Section 1.
"Shirone....
Kael’s smirk widened. "Interesting. Looks like things are going to get fun....
As Kael and Ren walked briskly towards the classrooms, an all-too-familiar voice called out.
"Hey, you two lunatics!"
Kael glanced over his shoulder and saw Eric striding toward them with his trademark smirk.
He tried to ignore the provocation, muttering to Ren, "Just ignore."
But Eric wasn’t one to let things slide.
Before Kael could take another step, Eric’s hand reached out to grab his shoulder.
Without even turning fully, Kael raised his hand in a calculated motion.
A surge of controlled energy sent Eric flying backward, skidding across the polished academy floor until he came to an unceremonious halt.
"Don’t disturb me," Kael said coldly.
As Eric groaned, pushing himself up, a stern, commanding voice sliced through the air.
"Stop right there!"
Kael turned to see Aveline, her piercing gaze zeroing in on him.
"Oh, it’s you..." she began, her voice laced with venom.
"Is this how you plan to behave in this academy? Starting fights already? Do you even understand what this place is for?"
Kael met her glare with his usual calm defiance.
"I didn’t start anything."
"That’s not how it looks," Aveline snapped, stepping closer to Kael, her stance protective as she motioned toward Eric.
"Assaulting a student? Do you even understand the consequences of your actions? Or do you think the rules don’t apply to you?"
The air grew tense as Aveline stood toe-to-toe with Kael.
Aveline’s gaze hardened as she said.
"According to academy rules, you will be deducted 50 coins for starting a fight," she stated coldly, her voice carrying the weight of authority.
Ren shifted uncomfortably, while Eric smirked smugly from behind Aveline, emboldened by her intervention.
Kael’s gaze darkened. He was about to respond when—
"Stop there," a calm but commanding voice rang out, cutting through the tension like a blade.
The crowd parted, and Lumia stepped forward, her presence immediately silencing the murmurs.
Her striking appearance and composed demeanor seemed to draw all attention to her.
She looked at the scene before her, her expression unreadable.
Her gaze flicked toward Kael briefly before returning to Aveline. "What’s going on here?"
The tension held, but now all eyes were on Lumia, the freshers’ president, as her words hung in the air....
What do you think?
