Chapter 12 - 12 12 Goals
Chapter 12: Chapter 12 Goals Chapter 12: Chapter 12 Goals Luo Qiao thought that once she regained her strength in a few days, she would wander up the mountains, search for some medicinal herbs, and exchange them for money to buy the yard designated for the female educated youth.
It would save the trouble of having to look for another place to live should someone in the village buy it one day.
The yard for the female educated youth had two main rooms, a kitchen, and a storeroom. Luo Qiao quite liked it, especially since there was a well in the courtyard, which was very convenient.
Gao Suhua didn’t fare well at Luo Qiao’s and thought to herself that this girl was really bold, daring not to open the door for her. She would just wait and see.
For the next two days, Luo Qiao did nothing but rest in the courtyard. The well water from the space really was a treasure; she felt much better after just two days.
Although she still had a frail appearance, her constitution had greatly improved compared to before, and even her skin looked much better than it used to be.
Moreover, she had spent the past two days in space, tirelessly creating different dishes to nourish her body. So, Luo Qiao decided that tomorrow she would find the Brigade Leader and get assigned some work, lest people start to gossip.
During these two days, Luo Qiao also thought it through. Her body was only fifteen years old; she certainly couldn’t just stay in the village forever. It was the early eighties, and she had to find a way to go to school. At the very least, she needed to obtain a diploma, didn’t she?
The original owner of her body hadn’t been to school while staying with the Luo Family in the farm because of their “bad” social status. The farm’s school did not allow the children of sent-down personnel to attend.
But the original owner was smart. There were quite a few educated people in the farm, and she, being sweet-talking and sensible, received a lot of teachings from the Old Couple Yang next door. Before they returned to the city, they even encouraged her to seize the opportunity to go to school in the future.
Regrettably, the Luo Family was rehabilitated and returned to the city, and in a few days, they sent her to this place. Luo Qiao remembered what the Luo couple had done to the original owner and vowed to make them regret it one day.
She found a piece of paper with two addresses from the pocket of a set of old clothes in her bundle. Those were the addresses given by Grandpa Yang and Grandma Yang who lived next door in the farm, and Grandpa Yuan who wasn’t far from her home there.
Back in the farm, these people had taken good care of her. They would jokingly tell the original owner that she didn’t resemble the Luo family very much and saw that Luo Tianming and Feng Hui weren’t close to her. They even teased her that she was adopted.
Heh, the public’s eyes are truly discerning.
Luo Qiao stored the piece of paper in the Spatial Study Room, thinking that in the past few days, Gao Suhua hadn’t come to bother her. She didn’t know if Suhua had given up or was brewing a bigger plan.
The next morning, after having breakfast and getting ready, Luo Qiao went to the riverbank. The wife of the Brigade Leader had previously told her to gather there to be assigned work.
When Luo Qiao arrived, she wasn’t too late. Brigade Leader Gao Jiefang was already there waiting for people. Luo Qiao walked over and said, “Good morning, Brigade Leader. I’ve come to work.”
The Brigade Leader, noticing that she indeed looked much healthier, kindly advised, “Make sure you’re completely well before you start working. Don’t let yourself fall sick again.”
Luo Qiao replied with a smile, “Thank you, Brigade Leader. I’m pretty much better now. I need to provide for myself after all.” At her words, several sympathetic gazes fell upon her.
A woman beside her commented, “Look at how skinny she is, like a bamboo pole. What work can she do? No wonder the Zhao Family didn’t want her.”
A woman who sympathized with Luo Qiao said, “Sister-in-law Xiulan, the poor girl has already had a hard enough time. We have to take things slowly. Weren’t we just the same at her age, unable to do much?”
What do you think?
