Chapter 19 - 19 19 Human Action or Accident
Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Human Action or Accident Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Human Action or Accident Because Carolline insisted on waiting alone at the door for Emily Hill, Bryan’s grandfather saw her standing in front of him when he came out of the Inpatient Building.
He walked quickly over to her and stopped a step away, “Miss …”
Carolline turned her head and saw Bryan’s grandfather. She wasn’t quite sure of his identity, but she was pretty sure the person he was calling was her.
“Hello, what can I do for you?” Carolline nodded to him and respectfully replied.
“I am Bryan’s grandfather, and you are the person who helped Bryan. I came to say thank you.” Bryan’s grandfather introduced himself and expressed his gratitude.
“Please don’t say that. It was just a coincidence, anyone else would have done the same.” Carolline was modest and did not dare to take credit.
“Not everyone could have had Caden Ruiz perform surgery on Bryan. Miss Carolline, I am truly grateful to you and your father on behalf of Bryan.” Bryan’s grandfather insisted, his words leaving Carolline no room to refuse further.
“He has saved me before, if it wasn’t for him, I don’t know what would have happened to me. So, please don’t say that. If I have to put it into words, I just asked my father to help him as a favor, and there’s no need to worry about it.”
Carolline realized the severity of the situation only after it had happened, so she really couldn’t take credit for it.
“So, do you know what happened at the time? How did this accident happen?” Bryan’s grandfather didn’t push her further, he wanted to know the situation at the time.
Of course, if Carolline couldn’t provide an answer, he would go to the Police Station to get to the bottom of it.
“I don’t know; I didn’t notice at the time. By the time I did notice, he… he had already been hit and fallen to the ground. The driver at fault was surrounded by nearby merchants, so he didn’t run away.”
Remembering the scene of Bryan lying in a pool of blood, Carolline was still frightened to this day. Fortunately, her father said he had saved him, and there was no more danger to his life.
Now, she could finally breathe a little easier.
“Carolline—” Emily Hill came out of the family courtyard, calling her.
“Mom.” Carolline called to her, Emily Hill strode towards her, and Bryan’s grandfather took the opportunity to leave, “Since you have something, I’ll leave first. I’m sorry for the bother, miss.”
“No, not at all. Please, don’t be so polite. By the way, can I visit him later?” Carolline requested. If it weren’t for her father insisting on taking her with him, she would have wanted to wait until Bryan woke up.
“Of course, we welcome you anytime.” Bryan’s grandfather smiled, much more delighted than when he agreed with Matilda Ferguson’s visit.
“Thank you.” Carolline said.
Emily Hill also arrived at this time, and Bryan’s grandfather nodded and left. He took a taxi straight to the Police Station.
He had to find out the cause of the accident, whether it was an accident or not.
“Who’s that guy?” Emily Hill asked, puzzled, after Bryan’s grandfather left.
“That’s the grandfather of the guy who saved me last time.” Carolline only referred to Bryan as her savior.
When she thought back to that incident, she only realized how terrifying it was. If what Bryan said was true, and he hadn’t appeared in time, she would have faced not just a single thief, but four or five criminals. What would her situation have been?
“You should have told me. I should have thanked him.” Emily Hill said, a little annoyed, thinking back to the incident. She still felt uneasy about it and was fortunate that there were many kind people in the world.
“Today, he got hit by a car, and dad saved him.” Carolline was still a little sad about it, especially since her father said they wouldn’t know if there were any sequelae until Bryan woke up.
She hoped there would be no repercussions, but couldn’t help worrying.
“What? No wonder your dad was supposed to go fishing with Uncle Wang today, but then he called me to have lunch outside instead.” Emily Hill finally understood the reason.
Things were unpredictable, especially for Carolline, who was still worried, “Alright, alright, don’t worry too much. It’s already happened, and your worrying won’t change anything. Besides, your dad probably saved him, right?”
“Yes.” Carolline collected her emotions.
Henry Ruiz called and urged them, so mother and daughter finally headed for Green Vineyard for lunch.
—
Xavier Estrada had been waiting at the entrance of the hospital. Bryan’s grandfather got into his car as soon as he left the building, and they went straight to the Police Station.
The current director of the Police Station knew Bryan’s grandather, so he sent the investigator in charge of the case to answer Bryan’s grandfather’s questions.
“What have you found out so far? Captain Tucker.” Bryan’s grandfather was somewhat tired but still focused.
“Mr. Hawkins, the driver responsible was drunk driving. It was an accident. This afternoon, we’ll send someone to the hospital to get medical reports from the party involved and then submit them to the court for verdict.” Gavin Tucker told the truth.
The fact was that the driver did not escape when they arrived at the scene. The police officers smelled the strong alcohol as they approached, and the witnesses on the scene could testify as well. Therefore, this was an accident.
However, the driver at fault would pay a heavy price for his illegal actions.
“It really was an accident.” Bryan’s grandfather nodded slowly, believing Gavin’s words.
Moreover, with the alcohol test report, Gavin showed him. Gavin even volunteered to let him see the driver responsible, who still hadn’t sobered up. He didn’t know how that person managed to drink so much before noon.
Of course, every family had its own difficulties, and as long as the driver admitted his wrongdoing, there was no need to delve further into the reasons.
“Thank you, Captain Tucker. In that case, I’ll leave first. I trust your investigation results.” Bryan’s grandfather stood up and called Xavier to leave.
With the matter settled, since it was an accident, there was nothing more to say. Bryan was just unlucky, and now he just needed time to recuperate.
“Old Master, do you really believe it was an accident?” Xavier didn’t really believe it., but there was no evidence.
Bryan had recently offended quite a few people, and he suspected that those who were aiming for Bryan were responsible.
“If Gavin says it’s an accident, then there’s no doubt about it.” Bryan’s grandfather believed the accident theory. But, what could disbelief do? Those who knew the inside story wouldn’t be so foolish.
Everything should wait until Bryan woke up; perhaps he would know more about the matter.
What do you think?
