Struggling as a Villain

Chapter 281- The beginning

[Clion]

At the northern border of Eldoria, the forces of the Light side could be seen currently spread in a wide range.

The day when it all began, has arrived.

There were over ten thousand soldiers who were ready with their spears and shields; ready to decimate their opponent.

Unlike those on Earth who got over a year to prepare, only a week was granted to the residents of Clion to prepare. That explains why there were soldiers wearing different emblems on their chests. After all, they all belonged to different nations, and some were not even humans.

Among them stood towering giants, their skin like stone, gripping massive clubs that could shatter a dozen men with a single swing. Beside them were elves, their longbows glinting under the sun, arrows tipped with enchanted steel. Dwarves in thick armor held war hammers, their beards braided tight as they muttered battle prayers.

But it wasn't just soldiers who had gathered. The ground trembled beneath the weight of mythical beasts. Winged griffins perched on high ridges, their sharp eyes watching for enemies. Packs of direwolves, each the size of a horse, growled as they prowled between the troops. High above, a few wyverns circled, their leathery wings casting shadows over the battlefield.

At the very front, the mightiest of them all stood—a great silver dragon, its scales shining like polished steel. Smoke curled from its nostrils, and with every breath, the air around it shimmered with heat. It was a force of destruction, a symbol of power, and the warriors behind it knew that as long as it stood, they had hope.

The army was vast, unstoppable, and ready for war.

Eleanor was on the back, quite far away from the frontlines, standing on top of the fortress they had formed to guard the capital—which was their new headquarters.

In the first wave, Eleanor didn't send many apostles, since her goal was to reduce the enemy forces through the soldiers.

From what information she has received, the residents of the other world, are quite weak in comparison to Clion residents. Coupling it with the magical beasts, Eleanor was hoping to reduce the number of enemy forces enough so no obstacle can arise between the apostles of both sides.

"Are you sure they will come here?" Junisha asked as she stood beside her while her eyes remained affixed on the horizon—waiting for the other side to appear.

Eleanor revealed, "That dog, which has been sniffing recently around our perimeters…I allowed him to plant the teleportation mark points," glancing at the woman, she added, Stay connected through My Virtual Library Empire

"And as much as I know Richard, he wouldn't go for some back route. He will confront us from the front."

Junisha smirked, "You seem to know him from very close."

Eleanor shrugged, "It's important to know about your opponent more than your friends."

Junisha hummed, as she turned around and looked at the capital city, "Although you told them to evacuate, there still are a few people left."

Eleanor sighed, "I am not worried about them—both because they don't concern me and also because I know nothing would happen to them."

With her eyes adapting slight warmth, she added, "After all, he will protect them."

**BLUOOOOOO**

The horn alerted everyone about the incoming danger, as the warmth from Eleanor's eyes instantly disappeared and all her focus went toward her front.

There was a huge barren land in front of them where the teleportation checkpoints were marked.

Eleanor clenched her fist as she saw the first teleportation portal appearing.

"Here they come...." She muttered, however, against what she expected—only one portal appeared, and a familiar redhead stepped forward.

"Is he...alone?" Junisha also couldn't believe her eyes when she saw her grandson stepping out of the portal, and soon the portal closed behind him—without a single soul present beside Richard.

'What is he plotting....' Eleanor narrowed her eyes suspicion. There could be no chance that Richard would underestimate the Light this much, to come here all alone.

True, he is strong—to the point where she was warned by the deity.

However, coming here all alone and challenging hundreds of thousands of warriors...either he is extremely foolish or this was a plan.

"Supreme Leader..." Jessica—the second in command—turned to look at Eleanor from the battlefield.

Eleanor heaved a sigh before commanding, "Attack!"

Jessica nodded before she blew the battle horn,

*BLUOOOOOOO*

The soldiers on the front lines got prepared as they removed their hold from the chains that were retraining the beasts. The beast tamers commanded the monsters to advance toward the only human in sighting.

Their goal was to eradicate whoever appeared from the other side—even if the first person they could get was the leader of the Dark forces.

Eleanor had her eyes fixated on Richard, and somehow she could feel him looking back at her as well....with that damn annoying smile never leaving his face.

"Come on, Richard... don't disappoint me now..."

The beasts surged forward, their movements swift and precise, closing the distance at a terrifying pace.

But just a hundred meters away—

Richard raised his hand. A dark symbol blazed on his palm. Then—

He slammed it into the ground.

TING

A deep, echoing chime rolled across the battlefield, a sound so vast and unnatural that it sent a shiver through every living being. For a brief moment, everything stilled.

Then—

A shadow erupted from beneath Richard, spreading like a monstrous stain, swallowing the ground and stretching toward the incoming beasts.

SQUELCH

KHIIIK

GRRRRR

Screams. Wet, sickening sounds. The crunch of bones.

"What the...?"

"How in the—"

Cries of confusion and horror filled the air as the shadow came alive. Clawed hands, spear-like limbs, writhing shapes with too many fingers—ripping, tearing, impaling. The beasts thrashed and shrieked, but there was no escape.

The darkness devoured them.

Richard kept looking at Eleanor with a smile, as he muttered under his breath,

"How predictable can you be~"
