The Honest Man’s Counterattack 2003

Chapter 20: The Grace of That Kick

In the warm and cozy classroom, Zhao Feng stood alone in punishment, idly flipping through his Chinese textbook. He didn’t take Guo Damei’s punishment to heart at all.

Guo Damei was fuming. Ever since Zhao Changhe had brought eggs to the office and chased her out of the school, she had become the talk of the teachers’ lounge. Everyone gossiped about how she had secretly eaten the eggs, growing plump and fair-skinned from them. Even the principal had caught wind of it and called her in for a chat.

Guo Damei hated Zhao Changhe to the core, but there was nothing she could do about him. So, she took her frustration out on Zhao Feng instead.

Just then, two figures dashed past the back door. Zhao Feng happened to catch a glimpse—it was Hou San and Li You, the two troublemakers. He wondered what mischief they were up to this time. Could it be that Huang Dabiao had run out of toilet paper and fallen into the pit? He’d have to check after class.

After finishing her lecture, Guo Damei let the students review on their own. She put down her teaching materials and walked over to Zhao Feng, yanking his ear angrily. “You seem so well-behaved, but you’re actually quite sneaky. Did you tell your dad to bring those eggs?”

Zhao Feng awkwardly replied, “No, my dad’s just an honest man. He never visits empty-handed. It’s just a habit.”

Guo Damei’s anger flared. “Couldn’t he have brought them to your home? Why the office?”

Zhao Feng meekly said, “How should I know? Ask him yourself. You two seem pretty close.”

Guo Damei’s eyes widened in fury. “If your grades drop in the joint exam, I’m calling your parents.”

Zhao Feng lowered his voice. “No problem. We’ve got plenty of eggs at home.”

Guo Damei felt a wave of dizziness, nearly toppling over from anger. “Fine. Stand here until class ends.”

As Guo Damei stormed off, Huang Qiaoqiao poked Zhao Feng’s side and whispered, “Little Fengfeng, how did you do on the joint exam?”

Zhao Feng

sighed. “Don’t call me ‘Little Fengfeng.’ That’s what my mom calls me. I did okay.”

Huang Qiaoqiao giggled. “Little Fengfeng, what does ‘okay’ mean?”

Zhao Feng replied, exasperated, “Red-crowned Crane, can you stop calling me that? I might accidentally call you ‘Mom.’”

Huang Qiaoqiao tilted her head and chirped, “Little Fengfeng, so obedient!”

“Ugh,” Zhao Feng groaned, realizing his mistake. Now that Huang Qiaoqiao knew his mom called him that, she’d never stop. She was teasing him on purpose.

Huang Qiaoqiao asked, “Little Fengfeng, did you do well or not?”

Zhao Feng sighed. “Average. I filled out the exam, but I don’t know if I got anything right.”

Huang Qiaoqiao said, “If your grades improve, you owe me spicy hot pot.”

“Spicy hot pot?” Zhao Feng’s expression turned strange, recalling a certain spicy hot pot story. He weakly replied, “Don’t eat something so spicy. It might affect your health and your performance in the college entrance exam.”

Huang Qiaoqiao paused, then said, “How about a mild hot pot?”

Zhao Feng nodded. “Sure. The college entrance exam is coming up. Are you staying at school to study?”

Huang Qiaoqiao replied, “That’s what I was thinking. I’ll start staying in the dorm tonight.”

Ding ding ding!

The bell rang, signaling the end of class. Zhao Feng waved to Jin Fugui, and the two headed to the restroom. The hallway was packed with students all rushing in the same direction.

Outside the men’s restroom, a crowd of boys had gathered, buzzing with excitement.

Huang Dabiao and Li You

were drenched in sweat, using all their strength to pull on a jump rope tied together. Hou San, with the rope tied around his waist as a safety harness, was suspended above the pit, desperately trying to fish out a phone.

“Dammit, it stinks! I can’t reach it. Lower me down a bit!” Hou San’s face was green from the stench, his hands flailing as he tried to grab the phone.

The onlookers whispered and snickered, thoroughly entertained.

“Hahaha, Brother Biao’s phone fell into the pit. What a legend!”

Houzi’s a real daredevil, going down there. Isn’t he afraid of falling in?”

“This is too funny. I’m gonna laugh myself six-pack abs.”

“These three clowns are blocking the toilet.”

Zhao Feng stood in the crowd, his expression a mix of amusement and disbelief. Brother Biao was truly something else. Who else could drop their phone into a pit and come up with a tug-of-war solution to retrieve it? It might actually work.

Jin Fugui laughed hysterically. “Brother Biao’s a legend. Dropping his phone in the pit? That’s next-level.”

Zhao Feng chuckled. “The king of our school, a true master. So freaking bold.”

Jin Fugui teased, “Brother Biao’s stance is so heroic. I kinda wanna kick him.”

Zhao Feng crossed his arms. “Great minds think alike.”

From the pit, Hou San’s voice rang out, triumphant. “Brother Biao, I got it! Pull me up!”

“Nice job, Houzi!” Huang Dabiao’s face lit up with excitement. “Li You, let’s pull him up together!”

“Got it!” Li You’s veins bulged as he strained with all his might.

The two pulled with all their strength, slowly lifting Hou San out of the pit.

Suddenly, a figure darted out from the crowd and delivered a powerful kick to Huang Dabiao’s backside.

Huang Dabiao, caught off guard, shot forward like a cannonball, crashing into Li You. Both lost their footing and let out blood-curdling screams as they tumbled into the pit, landing with a sickening thud.

“Ahhh!”

Screams echoed as all three fell into the foul-smelling pit, flailing and struggling like they were sinking into quicksand.

“Who the hell kicked me? I’ll kill you!” Huang Dabiao roared, furious and disoriented. He had found his phone, but now he was stuck in the pit, the stench making him see stars.

“Help! It stinks! Get me out!” Hou San wailed.

“Someone call the teacher! I’m gonna pass out!” Li You cried in despair.

The scene was chaotic, with the crowd pointing and laughing. No one stepped forward to help; they were all too busy enjoying the spectacle. Huang Dabiao had made too many enemies with his usual arrogance and bullying. Now that he was in trouble, no one was willing to lend a hand.

Zhao Feng and Jin Fugui slipped away from the crowd, chuckling as they headed back to the classroom.

Feng, that kick was legendary! You’ve got the finesse of Beckham’s free kicks,” Jin Fugui said, still laughing.

“It was nothing. Brother Biao was standing there like a target. I couldn’t resist,” Zhao Feng replied with a smirk. “But keep it quiet, okay? I don’t need the trouble.”

“Don’t worry, my lips are sealed. Your secret’s safe with me,” Jin Fugui said, grinning. “But remember that time you peed in the sandbox as a kid? That was hilarious.”

“Shut it! You did the same thing, and you loved it,” Zhao Feng shot back, laughing.

Meanwhile, the restroom was in an uproar. The principal, Wang Youdao, arrived with the school’s security team to handle the situation. But the stench was overwhelming, and they quickly realized they were out of their depth.

In desperation, Wang Youdao called in the sanitation team. Armed with their legendary “poop scoops,” the professionals managed to fish Huang Dabiao, Hou San, and Li You out of the pit.

The three were in a sorry state, covered in filth and unconscious from the ordeal. The ambulance arrived shortly after, whisking them away to the hospital.

The incident became the talk of the school, a legendary tale that would be retold for years to come. As for Zhao Feng, he walked away with a satisfied smile, knowing he’d left his mark—literally—on school history.
